I have sensitive combination skin and this stung! At first I thought it was just my face wash, or my skin was extra sensitive. So I did a split-face trial on myself, comparing it to my CeraVe lotion. Nope. This gel stings.

My skin is normal and very rarely reacts to products. I use several Paula’s Choice products and have experienced no problems..until this. Within ten seconds of applying this, my face felt as though it was on fire. It became really red and the burning sensation I felt was bad. I removed it straight away but my face remained red and it felt sensitive for a couple of days afterwards. This product is supposed to be formulated for sensitive skin but I would strongly advise those with sensitive skin to avoid this product. I do really like Paula’s Choice but this unfortunately I really do not recommend this product.

I bought the samples. I love the calm line from PC, but this product is so terrible. They need to do a reformulation. Basically it’s not moisturizing or hydrating, it’s basically a primer. A primer is not a moisturizer. I’d just buy the n/d and use it sparingly, that one is good.
Paulas Choice team, please reformulate with more hydrating ingredients.

I have problems finding moisturizers which don’t clog my pores and which don’t aggravate my rosacea. With skin that is very sensitive and also oily/combination, it is really hard to find a product which I can use every day under foundation. This moisturizer doesn’t hurt my rosacea, but it does seem to be quite comedogenic, and when I wrote to the company whether they considered it non-comedogenic, they just sent me a waffly reply. Basically, they said that so many ingredients in different products can clog pores that they can’t really say whether something is likely to cause clogging! This is nonsense! Plenty of products carry warnings, and the Beautypedia site is quite good at pointing out these problems, so why can’t they just say right out that this product can clog pores? And then point me to one which doesn’t. I am not going to repurchase, and am still looking for a good moisturizer. I think I have major problems with silicones, so a water based one would be best, but they are so hard to find!

I have a sensitive combination skin, oiler of course in the summertime. I have given to this moisturizer so many possibilities, such as applied only in the morning, only in the t-zone, with a serum underneath… finally this moisturizer has been a disaster. At first, I would recommend just to oily/very oily skin, so for combination and truly sensitive skin it’s not the right product. Once applied on my skin is so uncomfortable, even on the oilier parts of my face. It is too mat as sensation. U have to use much product, so a little does not go a long way, definitely.

This is Okay. I have slightly oily skin, so this moisturizes enough as long as Im not overdoing exfoliants and leaves a matte finish. Its feels quite siliconey instead of lotion-y, like a thick primer. Doesn’t clog my pores though keep in mind I use 2% Salicylic acid almost daily. If I overdo a chemical exfoliant I have to use a moisturizing toner, this lotion and Vaseline on top for it to feel enough. This is NOT for dry skin.
I wish there was more product in the bottle for the price because I use it on face and neck. I also Like the simple, practical packaging. Perhaps Ill try next the Resist Anti Aging Clear Skin Hydrator.

This moisturizer is not great at all, especially not for almost $30… It’s geared towards oily, sensitive, acne-prone skin, but I found it way too silicone-y to really moisturize anything. It also seemed to clog my pores, as it contains such a large amount of silicones, as well as algae extract- a known comedogenic ingredient. I really think Paula’s Choice could’ve done a much better job with this moisturizer,

On my skin: Very sensitive, prone to clogged pores and rosacea, when using the wrong products.
I was looking for an oil-free, fragrance-free moisturizer with soothing ingredients for everyday use. Unfortunately, this moisturizer doesn’t feel hydrating at all, it is more like a thick primer-gel. From the moment I put it on I could feel it causing irritation to my eyes, but because my skin wasn’t red at all I chose to wear it for the day. After 2 hours my skin was so oily and shiny and there were a lot of clogged pores where I applied it.
I’m suspecting the Cyclopentasiloxane is the culprit or some “antioxidant” since I don’t have any problems with Dimethicone. Do not recommend for sensitive and acne-prone skin types.

Yet another Paula’s Choice product that irritates my skin. This moisturizer feels nice texturally, but it feels more like a primer than a moisturizer. It doesn’t actually feel like it moisturizers at all. It makes my skin burn a little and my cheeks break out in tiny blisters after using it for a few days. This is FAR from “calming” and contains way too much silicone.

Ok, so I have been curious about the PC line because it is fragrance free and uses ingredients which are proven to be effective. My scientific mind is drawn to products that contain such ingredients! However, this moisturiser was fairly disappointing.
First of all, it contains so much silicone that it feels more like a primer. It just doesn’t feel nice. It doesn’t feel like it’s doing anything. Secondly, it doesn’t moisturise properly. I have been using this moisturiser every day am and pm for the last two weeks and as you read this my skin is dull, dry and dehydrated. I though the dullness and dehydration were due to the adapalene that I was using, however, I stopped using that days ago and my skin is as dull, dry and dehydrated.
What is funny about this moisturiser is that is goes on extremely matte, making skin appear dull, however a few hours later it makes my skin very oily. I never had this before. Normally moisturisers which make me oily later on give me a sheen straight away and tend to hydrate well. This is an odd one!
On the positive side I like that it is fragrance free and the ingredients seem good, if we ignore the presence of so many silicones. I am not against silicone in skincare, after all there must be a base in which to suspend the ingredients. A silicone base is still better, for my skin type, than an oily base or an alcoholic base. That being said a water base or water-in oil base would be better. Even though I am not against silicones in skin care, there is a line. If too much of it is used the product doesn’t feel like skincare to me. The packaging is boring and dull yet practical and hygienic.
Overall this is a very light moisturiser that sinks in right away and looks really matte, however it doesn’t moisturise my combination skin. Does not provide any benefits apart from immediate feeling of smoothness due to the high silicone content. Makes my face really matte, then really oily then when I wash it off I am dry, dehydrated and dull. One more to add to the stash of products to use up on my neck. Even though this one is not even good for that (I will have to add a serum, I don’t think this will do anything to my neck on its own!)
