I received this as a free gift with an order last year and am so glad I did. This serum is perfect for my acne prone, sensitive skin. It feels silky when applied and makes your skin feel instantly soft. A little goes a long way, I use a pea sized amount and it’s enough to cover my face and neck. The travel sized tube lasted about 6 months using it two to three times per week at night. This serum smooths my skin out overnight and I always wake up to bump free skin. Just repurchased today.

Okay, so my skin can best be described as sensitive, dry, very pale cool toned. It’s demanding to manage and gets cranky about what products touch it. It can go red and feel burned if it doesn’t like a product. I’ve even had a swollen eye with eczema after one disastrous run in with another PC product. I’ve figured out I need to exfoliate it regularly (I use another PC product for that), and add lots of hydration. The Skin Recovery makes an excellent lubricant to help my rather thick foundation to apply perfectly (people think I’m not wearing foundation and compliment me on my ‘great skin’.). After applying about 4 other products to my face fresh out of the shower, I add a tiny drop of this to my foundation, mix and pat it to my face. It helps it apply in a dewy and not clogged pore looking way. I guess I use it as a primer? I love it and it’s been repurchased many times for the past few years. Without it, I struggle to apply foundation in a way that doesn’t leave me looking like a cakey, chalky sad sack. I can’t speak for it’s effects as I’m chucking on about another 3 PC products before this one even hits my face. I will say though, that my skin has never looked this good or behave this well for me. PC is good stuff (most of it anyway)!

This did nothing for my skin, and it never absorbs into the skin no matter how little of the product I put on or how long I leave it on its own. It just sits on my skin and stays sticky and super shiny. I have normal skin with some dry areas but even when my skin is at its driest, in winter after a mask it doesn’t absorb.

I had a horrible reaction to this product last winter. I am not sure what was in the product that I reacted to, but it took me several weeks of really gentle pampering to get back to normal. It also dried out my skin and made it look kind of old and unhealthy. The Resist Antioxidant serum from this line works really well for me, so I am not sure why this was such a miss.

I have a bunch of sample packs. I have mature combination skin, tending towards dry, with an oily T zone, prone to hives and milia. My skin is tolerant of AHA, BHA and retinoids, including prescription, and I don’t purge much. I do have dark spots from dermatological laser and orange peel skin texture in select areas. I am a fan of Paula’s choice, esp. her BHA 2% liquid, 8% AHA gel and retinol body lotion (use on face as per MUA). I think her BHA and AHA koroducts are generally more effective and better value than the retinols, though I use products from all categories. This is fine if you have dry skin and want to try a retinol with a buffer of the oil. It goes on stickier at first and may feel a bit greasy if you have normal or oily skin. Like other PC serums, it makes you shiny. Personally I prefer other PC retinols (in order of preference: the body cream; the 1% clinical; the silver container resist wrinkle serum; the retinol booster; then this– because of texture). I also don’t feel much retinol in this, but that can be a good thing if, like me, you sometimes overdo things. Also, I think it contains small enough amounts of retinol, that I cannot imagine any purging issues would ever occur — excepting a reaction to the oils). In my opinion, the silver wrinkle retinol serum is relatively more silicone like (but other MUAers believe that it is also too greasy). YMMV, and its very easy to order multiple samples and compare different ones to see what you like. Note : I personally prefer to use far less than a pea sized amount, and I don’t use this, or any product, every day. I rotate different products and use as needed.
First few ingredients of this include:
Cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone, C12-15 Alkyl benzoate, olive oil, tocopherol, retinol, etc etc.
note: in terms of texture, it’s In between to Elf hydrating primer (which I like) and neutragena dry oil (which I dislike), but stickier to the initial touch. It dries to a tacky, moist, somewhat powdery finish. A sample packet contains a lot of product. A little goes a long way. A cheaper drug store alternative which texturally is very different (lotion like), is not greasy and which may have more retinol is Cerave Cream serum (which contains retinol). Mixed reviews on two separate MUA listings for the same Cerave product. It goes on like Cerave Cream if Cerave Cream came in a cute little pump tube, so don’t purchase if you don’t like CC.
Note: As a nighttime treatment, I have been using the rest of my samples on the backs of my hands and cuticles. The cuticles look great! So I recommend some sample packs if you want to give your hands a mini spa treatment.

This is a early review- I will update! I have been using this product for three nights so far and have had good things results. I have mild rosacea (the red cheeks and flushing stage) and dry sensitive skin, prone to congestion and dry red patches. I cannot manually exfoliate, even with a soft cloth, and often feel my skin is rough and uneven.
Since using this serum my skin seems to have smoothed out a reasonable amount and dry red bumps and patches have shrunk in size. I do have some hornonal pimples at the moment but the best of my knowledge the serum has not caused me to break out. I used an SPF yesterday, which usually causes huge problems for me, and felt that applying the serum in the evening helped my skin bounce back from that a little.
Texture wise I find it smoothing and quite nourishing. I have tried other serums in the past which have felt tacky and tight, also pure rose-hip oil which dried out my skin horribly. This feels more moisturising, though I do find I like to apply some moisturiser as well, usually about 10 mins afterwards when the serum has settled.
I do not have any prior experience with retinol but undestand it’s benefits make take a while to show up. Until recently I have been trying to stick to high end natural products but that really hasn’t been getting the results I want, so have decided to experiment with more of the manmade stuff. I hope this serum will continue to work well and not cause any sensitivity – will report back in a few weeks!

Greasy, creates a shine. And ineffective. The amount of retinol Paula puts in her products is NOT enough to make a difference to your skin.

This is my favourite serum. I try to avoid using it during summer (but it is HARD) as it contains Retinol and we literally have the sun shining 24-7 (midnight sun). I just started using it again some couple of months ago, and clearly have seen the differense on my face, back to good shape and a lot of blemishes and dry spots have disappeared. Really, really good for my dry skin. A nice oil base but still sinks in real quick and there’s no problem using it under my primer or foundation. Never had any problems with day creme or any other skincare product I’m using. I’m a big fan of Paula’s and this is on my top 3 favourites from her range.

I received this serum as a sample so I have only been using it as part of my nightly routine for the past three nights, and although that isn’t long at all I had to write a review because I have been fairly impressed by the results. I washed off my makeup and applied toner, benzoyl peroxide treatment, serum, and then my night cream. Only difference is I used this PC serum instead of my Andalou Naturals one. Anyway, I woke up the next morning and my skin was noticeably brighter and a few remaining acne scars from my last breakout were lighter, and they have been taking forever to heal. I have used this for three nights and have not had any pimples come up. My skin has actually cleared up really well in the last three days and my scars are continuing to go away. As for the product itself, it’s like a silky dry oil texture that applies smoothly and absorbs well. It moisturizes pretty well for a serum and makes my skin feel super soft. I was worried it would clog my pores and cause a breakout, but so far no sign of that. I guess everyone’s skin is different and although this may not work for some people, my skin seems to be tolerating it well when it’s usually prone to acne. I will use up the sample packet and when my current serum runs out I may purchase this or try another PC serum.

I tried a sample size of this and woke up the next morning covered in blackheads. Best avoided if you have combination or acne prone skin.
