AHA/BHAs weren’t doing enough for me. I needed more, so I decided to tip toe into retinol. I chose this one because it received a good review on Paula’s Choice Beautypedia. It’s oil based, so I knew it would be gentle (thanks to Caroline Hirons). I started slowly with once a week a couple of times then started using it regularly. I chemically exfoliate every other night and alternate AHA/BHA with the retinol. So I probably use it 2x a week. I apply to dry, clean skin and let it sit for a few minutes. I have had no irritation and it’s made my face so smooth. It’s also helping with scarring and hyper pigmentation. However, I do think I went through a small purge phase. It seems to be over now. Only complaint is that I wish the bottle was opaque to better preserve the product. I can see myself buying a few bottles of this before trying something stronger. I think this is good for a beginner. Someone who is used to retinol may not think it’s strong enough.
