   Kinda meh about this. It’s soothing and didn’t irritate my sensitive skin, which is a plus, but I didn’t notice any amazing benefits. Certainly, nothing that justifies the cost.

   I’m surprised by the amount of people who had a bad reaction to this product – I know if I had read them all I wouldn’t have purchased this product.

   I bought a kit which included a cleanser, calming spray must, barrier repair and this serum. I have dry skin and rosacea and after using this skincare line (after years of trying to use other skincare specific to sensitive skin and redness) and my skin is better than I’ve ever seen it.

   I bought this product in the pharmacy after being shown some of the products, and the representative spritzed some of the calming mist on my face – I would say if you were worried about reacting to some of the ingredients ask for this to try it out.

   One thing I would have to say about this product is that it works wonders in conjunction with the other products in the line, but might not do all that much by itself. The real miracle for me in this kit was the cleanser, and I’ve actually been able to swap this product out for the much cheaper natio soothing skin lotion and found very similar results.

   If you have the money to spend I would definitely recommend this product, especially if you were using it along with the other items in the range. However, I wouldn’t say it’s this product that’s made all the difference in my skin, and I wouldn’t buy the product without the cleanser.

   I have been using this for over 2 years and am loving it!

   Initially I used it sparingly because of the steep price, and I noticed it left my skin smoother, but nothing special about the ultracalming bit. I didn’t repurchase.

   Then one day because of pimple problems that wouldn’t go away, I started using benzac as part of my night routine. It worked well at first, but then I started getting red, itchy and flaky skin. I started using the serum again and it worked really well. Within 10 minutes I could feel the cooling sensation and I could see reduced redness. So now I use a thin layer of benzac on my face, then wait for a few minutes and generously apply the serum. It works a treat! I love my skin now!

   The normal size serum comes in a tube, but lately I have been buying the big bottle (professional size) that you can squeeze – easier and more economical. It has a thin consistency and the smell is quite mild.

   Just hope it won’t stop working… I just bought another bottle an hour ago 🙂

   I have been given a sample of this product , the scent is nice and the serum easy to apply but I did not notice any positive effect on my skin.

   I almost never give a one-star, but the only calming thing about this product was the scent. I noticed zero redness reduction. I agree that a good splash of cold water (infuse it with lavender if you like) is way more effective and will set you back far less money.

   I recently discovered that I have a touch of rosacea, especially in my cheeks, especially when stressed or embarrassed. I have gone on a mission to find rosacea friendly products that don’t turn me beet red! I came upon the travel pack of all Dermalogica Calming products and figured I had nothing to lose. After using these products for awhile, all I can say is…don’t waste your money! These products are neither good, nor bad. I think the ingredients are somewhat non-harsh and that’s the whole draw to this line. I have not noticed any difference in my skin since using this line. I’ve found greater luck with a cold splash of water in the AM followed by Aveeno Anti Redness sunscreen, then at night, Stridex pads, followed by Cetaphil and then a light later of retin A and jojoba oil. Wouldn’t repurchase this line!

   I’ve almost come to the end of this tube. And I will tell you now that I will not be repurchasing it. It is very expensive and the performance is disappointing. When I use it I don’t feel like it calms my skin. I don’t see any difference. I don’t feel like it’s doing anything. Perhaps it works silently building the skin’s barrier but I honestly have not seen any improvement. There are tons of other serums on the market. This is not one I recommend.

   I got this as part of the ultra calming kit. I was dubious about this – and the packing – it needs to be in a dropper not a tube. However, since I’ve started using it I have been able to reduce the amount of medication I’ve had to put on my dry scaly skin each day – and that is a huge change. I had to put the medication on three times a day just to keep the scaly skin under control. Now I put the medication on every other day – and that’s it.

   I don’t know if it is calming but it makes a difference for me. I have already purchased a full sized tube to use.

   This serum is disappointing. It doesn’t seem to have any calming effect at all on my skin, which is sensitive, particularly to dry, hot weather conditions. While it does give a nice layer of moisture and hydration, it doesn’t reduce redness and does not improve my weather-induced red, dry patches. The packaging is so strange for a serum. It’s a tube, not a dropper, and you have little or no control over how much of the serum will pour out into your hand, so more often than not, I get way too much-very wasteful. So I use it for extra moisture when my skin needs it, but would not repurchase.

    Oh my, where to begin.

    This review is mainly geared towards the “UltraCalming Kit” as a whole, but just for the serum this will work.

    Before I used this kit I was a fan of Dermalogica’s ultracalming sunscreen, in fact I loved it. It was easy to apply, had a pleasant scent, and hydrated my skin. After recently being told I had a “tinge” of rosacea I thought I would try out this kit which contained the serum, and because I am also getting married next month, I wanted something that would really help my skin.

    My skin: Dry to combination, very sensitive, rosacea, with micro acne on forehead.

    Now I know some have had great success with this kit/serum, but I had the worst reaction with these products. Adding the sunscreen just made it worse.

    I began using this product on a Friday, and by Monday by face was stinging, red and HOT. I couldn’t wear [any] sunscreen (not just the dermalogica sunscreen) because it just trapped the heat in my face. And just my *hair* touching my face felt like little pricks and itches.

    After having to go the dermatologist (yeah, it was that bad), with this kit in hand she looked at the ingredients and noted that Primrose oil, the fifth ingredient is a common allergen in sensitive skin, as well as ginger root. And not only that, but sage and lavender in everything! Which has been repeatedly been shown as a potential irritant in many people. I did not have a massive problem with the lavender in the sunscreen, but when I used the entire line it was a nightmare.

    I have to admit I felt silly (okay..stupid) that I didn’t consider this, but I will admit I fell for the marketing “ultracalming” line with its pretty and clean lavender packaging. There’s such a market for essential oils you sometimes don’t think these could possibly be bad for your skin since they smell so lovely.

    If this worked well for you then and you have no problems, then by all means keep using it. But if you really do have sensitive skin, and rosacea for that matter, then PLEASE be careful with this product. I took pictures of my ravished face and rather than share it with everyone I’d get a sample and patch test. It’s worth it to your skin, and your pocket book because Dermalogica isn’t cheap!

    For myself personally I will never use another Dermalogica “ultracalming” product again, and probably stay away from the company as a whole. Because frankly it’s irritating (literally!) that these products marketed for sensitive skin contain ingredients which have been repeatedly known to be harsh throughout multiple studies. I think they thought of “ultra-calming” in a more mental/emotional sense rather than for sensitive skin.

    **One thing I will say that out of all of those the Barrier Repair did not give me the reaction, but I stopped using it anyway because it added to trapping the heat in my face.
