This toner, now called “CALM Soothing Toner, Normal to Dry”, is definitely more of an “essence” than a toner. Like the other reviewers, I found it easier to apply with my fingers than a cotton pad.
It absorbs quickly and leaves my combination sensitive skin soft. I like the mix of antioxidants and hunectants. There’s want any impact to the redness of my face, but I wasn’t really expecting there to be from a non-prescription serum. (Maybe that’s why they re-branded?)
I may buy this again as a full bottle, although I’m not convinced it’s better than other hydraulic acid serums for the price.

I ordered the Normal to Dry toner but I think I would be better off with the Normal to Oily toner. I have combination skin that is also sensitive.
The texture of this toner is thicker than the liquid toners I am accustomed to, but it’s not quite a gel. Because it’s less watery, it’s easy to apply it directly to the skin, which saves a cotton ball. The Paula’s Choice brand avoids adding any dyes or masking fragrance to the skin care products because those ingredients aren’t really necessary and they might be problematic for some people who have delicate skin. The toner was darker than I expected (kind of a deep yellowish color). There is a natural scent (which I’m not fond of) but at least they didn’t add parfum to it. Some of the products in the line have no discernible scent and I gravitate toward those.
This toner proved to be effective at reducing temporary mild surface redness. It absorbs well into the skin. It felt soothing and did not burn or irritate. It contains several antioxidants. Overall I think it’s good for sensitive skin.
This has a lot going for it but I prefer to follow my cleanser with the Resist Daily Pore-Refining Treatment 2% BHA, which is a clear, watery liquid with no noticeable scent. It does a nice job of gently exfoliating my skin, and I’ve been using it as a nightly toner.
The Paula’s Choice brand is cruelty free and vegan.

Pros : Not Greasy, Gentle, Moisturizing, Smells Great, Balances Skin, Leaves Clean Feel
Cons: None
Best Uses : Sensitive Skin, Daily Use, All Skin Types
I recently sampled the new Calm Toner for Normal to Dry Skin. This product replaces Moisture Boost toner, which I was not a huge fan of due to its slightly irritating formula. The new Calm toner is miles better in so many ways.
Calm Toner for Normal to Dry is a viscous “essence” type toner, partway between a very thin lotion-gel and a liquid. Upon initial application to a cotton ball, it doesn’t soak in much, but can be easily glided onto the skin after cleansing. It can also be applied by putting a little bit into the hand and applying with the fingers. It does absorb into skin fairly quickly, and feels nourishing and calming, neither of which were true of the old MB toner. The scent is natural and neutral, quite nice and “clean” smelling. I found the product to be very elegant, making it pleasant to use. Add to this its soothing and skin-restorative properties, and Calm Toner for Normal to Dry skin is a huge win. I also prefer it over Resist Anti Aging Toner for Normal to Dry Skin which has a similar texture, but seems slightly more irritating to me. I will most likely try a full purchase of this toner once I run out of what I have on hand. Recommended!

I exchanged this for the N/O version and I’m sorry I did. This one is very essence like and less like a toner. In fact I tried to apply with a cotton pad and it was difficult to apply that way so it was best applied in the palm of my hand and patted on to my skin. It felt soothing and moisturizing but I was worried about some of the ingredients with my rosacea so I exchanged it but I may exchange again.
It seems like both of the toners have a job in the Calm line. The N/O will remove the last vestiges of makeup; the N/D is the first step in the moisturization process.
