   This thing is horrible. The only good thing is that it doesn’t break me out. It smells bad, feels bad and looks bad with a horrible white cast that wrecks all makeup put on it. I prefer a million times better the all-around safe block Missha one for almost half of the price.

   I have oily, sensitive and acne prone skin. This sunscreen does not break me out which is great! It does not leave a sticky residue. The packaging is great as it comes in a tube with a pump. The only problem with it is that it leaves your face with a white mask! It looks so disgusting under makeup and it makes me look like I’m wearing talcom powder all over my face. I will use the remainder of this product only when I go to the beach with no make up on. I will not repurchase again.

   Living in Singapore, I need sunblock. However, because of my oily, highly sensitive complexion, every sunblock/ sunscreen I’ve tried makes me break out. The most recent ones being Sunsense by Ego and the Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 by Neutrogena. Both have good reviews but they make me break out so I use it on my body now instead as a morning moisturiser.

   Anyway, this product ( does not break me out and does not have a sunblock/ sunscreen smell which I really love. It does not contain parabens or retinyl palmitate (which oddly enough a lot of dugstore sunblocks/sunscreens do) but there is dimethicone in it. It is a bit oily, which does not help with my already shiny complexion, but it’s nothing mattifying powder can’t fix. It works well under my liquid foundation (Dream Matte Liquid Mousse by Maybelline); no balling or anything of the sort. It does have a white cast to it but it’s not very obvious and under makeup, it does brighten my face.

   However, it is not waterproof. I went cycling for 2 hours and came back with such a brown face my friends asked if I ODd on bronzer. I kid you not.

   This is more of a daily moisturiser and shouldn’t be used for sport.

   Price wise, it’s almost S$50 but it’s currently under promotion at Guardian, so for S$40 you get the full sized sunscreen, plus a sample size toner and gentle cleansing milk. Each promotion package caters to your skin type. Mine was for oily sensitive skin. They have packages for dry, sensitive and sensitive skin as well.

   Reason I won’t re-buy this product is there are cheaper sunscreens out there that I would like to try first. A lot of the Japanese brands are supposed to be good (Anessa, Biore, Sofina, etc) so I’d like to try those first. If those fail, I’d revert to this 🙂 It may be pricey but at least I know my complexion won’t worsen for it.

   Before I start, I have olive skin and my skin type is oily on the t-zone but incredibly dry on the sides of my face (on my temples).
   Now… on to the product: I absolutely love the packaging! This is how most lotions/creams should be = with a pump! I really appreciate the protective ingredients in this product and the texture seems like it can be very water resistant. There is definitely a white cast but it’s bearable, it brightens my complexion and makes my skin glowy. However, it’s greasy AND it’s drying (how does that work?!?!). It stings my eyes and it balls up into hundreds of eraser-like rubbings across my face and the cream clings on to my dry patches (sort of like a cakey foundation but with white streaks) and on my hair line. I’ve tired many ways to apply it but it was unsuccessful.

   I notice that I have better luck with childrens suncreens than adult sunscreens (such as Sunplay Baby SPF 60+ PA+++). Japanese sunscreens are way more cosmetically elegant than any European sunscreen I’ve tried, however the ‘PA+++’ (which is the maximum amount of ‘+”s the PA ratings can get) has a PPD of about 8, which is just average UVA protection.

   This is why I am on an adventure to find the perfect European suncreen (such as the LRP Dermo-Kids which has a PPD of 39) for better UVA protection.

   This review is for the new 2010 version with avobenzone.

   Fabulous sunscreen. Of the Avene bunch, it is my favorite (even better than the Hydrance Optimale UV 20 Riche)! BUT, I wish it did not have avobenzone. I am uncertain about avobenzone because it is highly unstable – it would be better if they would just take it out! I cannot wear this sunscreen with so many foundations, because titanium dioxide and zinc oxide cannot be combined with avobenzone (it destabilizes it). Other than that, this sunscreen is perfect – light weight, non greasy, sheer, no bad sunscreen smell, and high SPF and UVA protection. I’ll definitely get a bottle of this before any beach holidays!

   This is for the avobenzene-free version which has been d/c. The picture is exactly the same as my product, EXCEPT, my tube doesn’t have the words “Very High Protection” on the front, it says “Tres Haute Protection”, but this is the closest image I could find.

   I was lucky enough to get the last tube of the avo-free from skincarecentral.biz. (I do believe they are carrying the new formulation for those of you interested – great company, btw – see my seperate review on them.)

   I truly hope Avene realizes how badly they have screwed up by adding avo to their current version. I do not feel comfortable using SS containing avo because I use MMU which contains titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide and 1 of those ingredients is believed by many to destabilize avo.

   What I have is a most amazing product! Price = $29 for a 50 ml tube that has a pump top – very unique (and slightly pricey IMO). It is lightly fragranced, but frankly, I would rather have that then a regular SS smell. Fragrance dissipates quickly anyway.

   Product comes out like yogurt and is white. It is very easily spreadable and sinks into my skin almost immediately, leaving NO white cast behind. Very nicely moisturizing for my combo (slightly oily T-zone, slightly drier cheeks) skin = no need for seperate moisturizer. I wait a few minutes after application and then apply my EM MU. I have had no issues w/ my MU sliding off or not staying put as long; I have had no breakouts, no aggravation of my subtype I rosecea.

   I am trying to remember the PPD from skincarecentral.biz website from when I ordered – I think it was a 28.

   I have posted the ingredients under that section (my apologies if I didn’t catch all the proper commas – the writing on the box is VERY hard to read.)

   I will have to hunt around the internet to get more of this version as I am IN LOVE and SO SICK of researching SS (trying to find an avo-free SS w/ hi SPF and hi PPD w/out going into hock is like looking for Noah’s Ark – virtually impossible to find!)

   If you can find this – snap it up (or let me know and I will happily swap you for it!) 🙂
