I really wanted to like this! I’ve been using mineral sunscreens for years, but wanted to give chemical ones another go. This one had a good EWG as far as UVA/UVB protection goes, so I ordered it directly from Supergoop.
It’s not great. It definitely pills and rubs off easily throughout the day, so I don’t feel protected from the sun. If I could return it, I would. It also stung my eyes a bit.
However, no breakouts, no greasiness, and no heaviness. But, the fact that it migrates all over my face means that it isn’t providing adequate sun protection.
I have yet to try an ss from Supergoop that doesn’t pill or roll off all over my face (the eye cream, moisturizer, and smooth mineral ss all did this). Not impressed by this brand. Boo, hiss.
Update: Also note that if you browse Supergoop’s site for product info, they ONLY provide the positive reviews they’ve received. I reviewed this product for them, gave it basically an ‘OK’ review, and they never posted it among the other reviews on their site. Further turned me off of the brand (but…I don’t like any of the Supergoop products I’ve tried anyway. They’ve ALL pilled up and slid around my skin throughout a normal dat. Hard pass on Supergoop).

Tried this on my face. I didn’t like the greasy feeling/look and it pilled a bit under my makeup.
At the end of the day, I had around 15-20 closed comedones, mostly concentrated near the inner parts of my cheeks. It has been around 3 days now and they’re still there. My skin has never broken out with another sunscreen. For this reason, and the fact it only has SPF 30, I give it only 1 lippie. 🙁

The SUPERGOOP! City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30 is a decent to average chemical sunscreen that is slightly hydrating and has a very light- liquidy serum texture. This provides the basic SPF 30 protection as well as broad spectrum coverage. While this says it is antioxidant packed it is rather light on them, but at least they have included some. I do like that this does not have any fragrance added, it does have a slight chemical sunscreen smell but that does dissipate rather quickly. This sunscreen is better for oily skin because it is very light and not extremely hydrating. I have very dry skin and did not find that this to be hydrating enough on its own. Sometimes when I needed to use extra moisturizer underneath this ended up pilling during foundation application. In my opinion it is a little pricey for an average foundation. I’ve found some sunscreens that I like to use more than this one so I wouldn’t re-purchase. My more detailed review can be seen here: U

I actually enjoy putting this on my face –> for that reason alone, I REALLY REALLY wanted this to work. After two months use, I have to give up. My dealbreakers:
1. The protection is terrible. I use the recommended amount (two pumps) happily, but I ALWAYS end up with more color than I would expect. I’m pale and use sunscreen daily–this does not provide comparable protection to other SPF 30 products. I actually double checked to make sure it wasn’t expired; it wasn’t, the protection just sucks.
2. THE PILLING. It isn’t hydrating enough to use on bare skin for me, and you’re supposed to reapply anyway (and will want to, given the subpar protection). Unfortunately, it balls up with anything underneath it, even after a long waiting period. No matter how quickly I try to smooth it on, it just won’t set correctly.
Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this.

I like this stuff. It doesn’t feel greasy or heavy on my face, and leaves a nice slightly dewy finish. Doesn’t break me out. A lot of people have complained that it balls up on the face. Well, I didn’t notice this until today when I tried to rub on a cream blush and indeed, it balled up pretty bad. Literally was rubbing off. I’m wondering if this means that my cheeks don’t have any sun protection now. For people who don’t use a lot of make up or use very light handed techniques, it shouldn’t be a problem. I just will have to remember to pat my blush on next time. Not sure if I would buy this again. I’ve used to sunscreens that are more cosmetically elegant and are cheaper.

I so wanted to like this product. However, I find it to be very drying even with my moisturized and prepped skin. It goes on beautifully and wears well under makeup. Three hours into wear, my skin is tight and uncomfortable. I’m glad I was able to try a sample first.

PERFECT sunscreen for my sensitive, reactive, combination skin. I have an oily T zone that is prone to dehydration if I use the wrong products, and extremely prone to congestion or blemishes if I again, use the wrong products. Most sunscreens are either too heavy, don’t have strong enough spf, or break me out. This stuff is perfect…lightweight, no scent, no nasty ingredients, lightly moisturizing, comfortable to wear all day, and NO breakouts. Holy grail for me!

Dislike! Obtained a deluxe sample and decided to test under my Chantecaille tinted moisturizer. Finish was strangely drying, considering the serum-like texture. This product left a slight white cast, which isn’t problematic for me but could be for others.
My biggest issue was the breakouts this product caused. Wore for a 12+ hour day, and when I removed my makeup that evening, my skin had broken out in 10+ closed comedones and white heads. Breakouts are a common reaction for me when using non-physical sunscreens but this one was slightly worse than usual. I’m finally almost done clearing the breakouts approximately a week and half later. Discarded this after one wear.

This sunscreen is great for oily skin because it is really lightweight and goes on well under other products. I use this under other moisturizers and makeup and it does a good job of protecting without clogging my pores.

Totally love this product. I got a sample from Birchbox and put it on one hot, humid, day in central Florida. Worked outside until 2 and not a single bit of burn. I now use it under my foundation. It goes on smooth and is not heavy. I don’t like the packaging though. Sometimes the pump doesn’t seem to work and you can’t see how much you have left.
