This is a review for Vichy Dry touch SPF 50.
If you have read my review of La Roche-Posay Anthelios matte SPF 30 you will know my whole back story.
Anyway I was testing both sunscreens out by putting LRP on one side of my face and Vichy on the other.
Vichy does comes out so much better.
First of all it doesn’t give you a white cast nor sink in to your fine lines and so far hasn’t given me any outbreaks, which is very unusual on my very sensitive skin.
It hasn’t balled up on me either so I can see this one being used as a good make-up base as well.
Also it does give you a silky dry feel touch, comparing to the more sticky LRP finish.
Obviously I’m just trying it out as a sunscreen at the moment, but out of the two Vichy is definitely the winner.

This stuff is practically neat booze! The second I put it on my face I could feel the ‘whoosh’ of alcohol drying. Then I checked the box – alcohol is the second biggest ingredient. I’m usually so vigilant before I buy anything so I can’t believe I bought this without checking first. If your skin isn’t sensitive to alcohol then the go with the positive reviews as it certainly is very, very mattifying.

I’m very hard to please with sunscreen but this one has quite a few merits.
The texture is classic cream but lightweight. It goes on nicely, can’t feel it on my skin, really mattifies without looking flat and doesn’t clump under foundation.
The scent is quite noticeable and fairly summery. Hasn’t broken me out. Classic tube packaging, readily available and fairly priced.
The reason for knocking a lippie off is that it contains alcohol which I try to avoid in skincare so I won’t repurchase.

I have acne prone, combination to oily skin and this is the best sunscreen I’ve ever used. It doesn’t feel heavy on my face, it didn’t break me out or dry me out and it also left a nice matte finish so my face wasn’t shiny at all.

I tried both versions of this SPF (SPF30 and SPF50), so I’ll post my review on both.
My skin: oily, sensitive, acne prone.
Review on SPF30:
I first tried SPF30 because it was winter time and I work at an office, so sun exposure is not a big deal for me on a daily basis. However I don’t leave the house without SPF on my face, since I’m very prone to hyperpigmentation spots.
Also, reading reviews online, a significant amount of them said that SPF50 didn’t perform the same as SPF30 – it was less mattifying, and more pore clogging.
It has alcohol in the formula, which I don’t like that much, but I don’t experience irritation or dehydration by using it, and I can’t really feel it after application, so I’m ok with it.
This is by far the best sunscreen I’ve tried for oily skin types. There is a minimum amount of any sunscreen that you have to apply to reach the protection mentioned on the bottle. This is the only sunscreen that I don’t bother using a generous amount. I just massage it and in a few seconds it’s gone! No weird grease feeling, no white cast, no mask sensation. In a few seconds more, it’s matte and my face feels soft like I used some sort of primer.
Makeup application is nice and even after using this, both powder or liquid. Oil control is the best out there among sunscreens (Yes, I’ve tried Japanese ones!). I didn’t notice pore clogging by using it on a daily basis, so this is definitely a staple for daily use.
Review on SPF50:
The formula of SPF50 doesn’t have alcohol in it, which is a plus. However, it doesn’t perform as good. I still like the finish. It’s mate, but you can feel it more, compared to the SPF30, but not so much that it bothers me, so I don’t consider it a con. It also takes longer to be absorbed.
The only downside is about the formula. It starts to ball up while you’re finishing massaging it into the skin, so you have to be quick and give it a few minutes to let it absorb completely. This can make makeup application difficult, so I really don’t recommend using brushes or even your fingers to apply makeup afterwards. I use a damp sponge in a dabbing motion (like beauty blender or miracle complexion sponge by real techniques) and it works wonders and the finish is perfect. I also tried powder foundation and it works too. So it’s a downside that you can easily work with. My makeup lasted all day, and there was a minimum amount of oil coming through, which was awesome (even on an hot day). I usually am an oily mess in a few hours. 😀
Besides the difference between the two formulas, I still recommend them both very much. I use SPF30 on my daily routine before my foundation, because I need less protection on a daily basis, I like to use makeup brushes and I’m afraid the formula SPF50 can cause me clogged pores if I use it constantly. As for the SPF50, I use it for the beach or on days that I’m going to have more sun exposure.
Yes, I recommend them, and yes, I’m going to buy them again! 🙂
Update on SPF50: I no longer have the problem with this formula balling up. It’s perfect, and I already re bought it. I can use makeup after applying it, with no problem. Best sunscreev I’ve tried so far! Totally recommend.

Applied normally, it would dry in white streaks that would pill up if i rub my skin over the course of the day. The only way I could get it to work is by applying a facial toner (Japanese toner) to wet my skin, and applying the sunscreen while wet.
it dries quickly and matte, but there is a slight white cast. Anyone over NC30 will find a white cast with the formula, I think. Once dried, you can feel it as a layer on your skin, and it can be too drying for some. The layer will also pill throughout the day as you rub your skin.
It does not play at all with any other makeup, there is absolutely no foundation I can wear on top of this sunscreen. It also does not dry to a lightweight finish. Moisturisers with silicone will cause pilling issues with this sunscreen.
It also broke me out.
The package is great, small, lightweight, opaque and with an easy and hygienic squeezy tube.

First sunscreen i tried that goes absolutley matte. Wow. No matter how much moisturizer, cream, vaseline i pile on my face before, it goes matte. Doesnt leave a white cast. Price in framce is 9euros which is great. Decent amount too. Only bad thing is, it makes foundation look aweful. Formulations dont mix well. I dont mind using this for daily use as long as i dont wear makeup on top.

A very respectable daily sunscreen for oily or combination skin. It’s perfect for me, but with maybe some caveats for you.
The scent: It *is* lightly scented, which fades as it dries. The scent reminds me of expensive body oils like Nuxe’s Huile Prodigieuse. Fortunately this sunscreen goes on like a high quality body oil too, with a liquid-cream texture that melts into skin to a comfortable, natural, soft matte, without peeling/pilling or whiteness. I’m not irritated by scents in cosmetics so feeling like I’m applying a luxe face cream instead of a sunscreen only enhances the experience for me. The other Mexoryl sunscreens I’ve used (La Roche-Posay’s Anthelios XL line) were “unfragranced” and smelled so strongly of a day at the beach that I felt self-conscious using them indoors or in any season besides high summer.
The composition: This sunscreen has a higher alcohol content than the Anthelios line. I’m only an armchair assessor of skincare ingredients so I’ll let you look up the implications of that for yourself. However Anthelios’ mattifying facial sunscreen (in SPF 50) made my skin visibly tight with pronounced expression lines (I’m 25), and left an uneven white cast. The gel-cream texture absorbed slowly and pilled, particularly under makeup. It’s common for daily use sunscreens and sunscreens meant for combination or oily skin to be alcohol-based. Also, Vichy’s Dry Touch sunscreen is still water resistant and formulated without parabens. I prefer a good scented sunscreen with higher alcohol content if it makes me more likely to want to wear sunscreen on a daily basis.
The packaging is a compact orange tube with a modern look, suitable for fitting into your bag for reapplication, though when the cap is open I find the product starts seeping out with very little pressure. I end up squeezing out more than I need for my face when I would rather conserve the more expensive product by using a separate body sunscreen on my neck, ears, et c.
I purchased this in SPF 30 to try to pre-emptively avoid the issues I had with the SPF 50 in the Anthelios line. I may try the higher protection version from Vichy too since another reviewer didn’t notice a difference (though someone else said it flaked). Anthelios is a fine sunscreen for extended time outdoors without more makeup than lip color and mascara. For all other occasions, Vichy is now my sunscreen of choice.

Overall, this product is ok. It’s not greasy and it dries up real quick so you get that wanted matte-look. But even if it says that this product is especially made to people with combination/oily skin, you should still be aware of the spf 30 version. One of the active ingredients is denatured alcohol – actually it’s mentioned as the 2. ingredient, which is a really bad irritant, and therefore it isn’t a surprise that several of the reviewers say that they broke out because of this product. Wether or not the difference between the spf 30 and spf 50-version is small, the 50 spf-version is still prefered, since this version doesn’t contain any irritants. Since people never actually put much sunscreen on so they are ensured a spf 30, it would therefore be prefered to use the spf 50-version. Then you will ensure a spf between 30-40, which means a suitable spf.

I can’t believe I’ve just paid whole 25 dollars for this!! It’s the worst spf face lotion ever! It feels and LOOKS exactly like smearing white toothpaste on my face – it leaves me like I’ve just seen some ghost, completely baby-powder-white.
To make things worse, due to decades of oily skin (and this stuff is supposed to be for oily skin) I have large pores on the center of my face, and this lotion fills them with totaly visible little white dough beads.
On top of it all, because I’m in Brazil, the farmacy won’t take it back – I feel cheated, no less, no more.
This is not the first time Vichy products disappoint me, but will be the last one for sure.
