This is my go-to gel for any sleek runway look. It will smooth down every hair flawlessly and hold for the whole day. If you have very light hair, I would discourage using this as it will blah your blonde. It’s the best for any other color, including those on the rainbows.
UPDATE: Nexxus changed the formula on this gel and it is a poor substitute. It does not hold my hair beautifully like before. I am in search of a new HG.

Does great over another gel for my curly hair, did not like it alone.

This is my HG strong hold hair gel. I have long hair with natural curl to it that needs lots of product to look maintained and not just like a giant beast. This does the trick! I layer this on top of a thinner gel with more slip when I scrunch my hair, and then add very small amounts on the days I don’t wash my hair to refresh it. I love how this smells (like men’s cologne) and how it feels in my hair. A little pricey for what I like spending on hair products, but I find it for around $9 at Harmon. If I apply *just* this, I find the hold to be a little too heavy for my hair.
EDIT:: They have reformulated and changed the packaging to a salmon colored tube. It’s more expensive and totally different. I hated the new product and returned it. SUCKS.

After trying gels both high- and low-end, this is the only one I’ll allow near my hair these days. It doesn’t make my hair stiff, crunchy, dry, or frizzy; it keeps the texture and definition I like in a gel but brushes and washes out easily; and it holds but still lets my hair move. The alcohol-free formula keeps my hair feeling soft and almost “conditioned”. It’s also lightweight, and unlike most drugstore gels, a little goes a long way, so my bottle will last a while. It’s worth the extra $.
I avoided trying Exxtra for a while because of harsh reviews of other Nexxus products and the fact that they’re no longer a salon-exclusive brand, so I assumed the formula and ingredients had cheapened and dropped in quality. But the truth is that every Nexxus product I’ve purchased from the drugstore has impressed me and worked wonders on my tough-to-manage hair. I shouldn’t have doubted the effectiveness of this gel. HG material, and I’ll definitely repurchase.

A little goes a long way, which is a good thing because this is like, the most expensive thing I have ever bought from the drugstore. $13 dollars (with tax) isn’t so bad, but when all its shelf mates are $3-$7 dollars its a tad disheartening. BUT all prices aside, this is the one gel I always come back to for my curly hair (3a-3b).
I apply it when my hair is soaking wet, then squeeze the water out and diffuse my hair. It feels a little sticky when the hair is damp, but that goes away when its fully dry. GREAt for layering with a leave-in conditioner; the product doesn’t flake or create those little white globes that some gels make when the come into contact with conditioner. The hold lasts for second and even third day hair, which is always a plus.
Definition and shine when used sparingly; crunchy and weighed down if you use to much!

Bought this gel @ Shoppers; returned it the next day. The scent is pleasant, along with the texture; the gel made my hair feel and look healthy, however, my curls were somehat limp and droopy…It also left buildup. I am glad I returned it-its quite pricey, but better than the other gels from Pantene, L’oreal, Aussie, herbal essences, etc. Will not repurchase.

I’ve waited a YEAR to review this just to make sure that I really don’t like it. After reading all the good comments on here I thought that I must be using it incorrectly, so I’ve tried using it in different amounts, on wet and dry hair, with leave-in and no leave-in……I’ve given it a good try, but sadly it’s just not working for my hair. It cost me ALOT of money too (having to get it shipped here to Australia) so I was loathe to give up on it. My hair is fairly long, coloured and naturally curly. It’s in reasonable condition, I never heat style and only use top quality products on it, however it’s natural texture is a bit “fluffy” and it’s on the fine/thin side. I was hoping this gel would define my curls and stop them from drooping (especially at the bottom) by the end of the day. It did not give me ANY discernable hold. It did define my curls very slightly (particularly towards my roots) but I still got stringy and straightish ends after only a couple of hours – and I was indoors!! Honestly, plain and simple Aloe Vera Gel gives me better results than this. I gave it two lippies because it did not feel tacky or sticky in my hair and was easy to wash out. Actually, it was like I had not used any product at all, except for the damage to my credit card 🙁

I love this gel. My hair is frizzy and has curl to it. Most gel make it flat and stiff. I love the smell of this. The price is high for drug store. It is worth every penny I will buy it when this one runs out.

This gel is great for curly hair. It definitely keeps the frizz away on humid days. I can’t say if it drys crunchy because I always use a styling creme after gel because I just assume from experience that my hair will be crisp. I highly recommend and have bought this gel several times.

This is my HG Gel! The best out there hands down! I have super long almost down to my waist 3b-3c curls and this is the only gel that works for me. It leaves my hair looking so healthy, shiny, and defined without any frizz. I use this and then after it’s dry i scrunch out with a little oyin handmade pomade and my hair is gooorgeous!! The scent of this gel is nice and clean. It causes no flaking and doesn’t dry your hair out over time like other gels. It also allows me to have up to 3 day hair. I love this product so much. Try it!
