This is a heavy duty physical scrub – it has almost whole poppy seeds and walnut shell ground into it. Think along the lines of St. Ives Apricot scrub but even more intense. If you have fine or delicate skin this is probably not the scrub for you. I love a good facial scrub down (sometimes even with a loofah) and so this scrub is great for me. I leave it on for 5 minutes or so after doing a solid exfoliation with my hands. It is a bit pricey and I feel that it isn’t that much more superior than something like the St. Ives scrub because I am really just looking for some rough exfoliation. It smells nice though and Eminence is a high quality skin care line that doesn’t use a bunch of fillers and junk. Would not purchase again simply because of the price. Otherwise a lovely face scrub.

Way too harsh for sensitive skin. The Eminence strawberry rhubarb dermafoliant is a superior exfoliating product.

I had high hopes for this exfoliator but…..nope. I do enjoy a good scrubbin’ but this stuff is too much for my skin. I legit felt like I was scrubbing my face with glass. It is extremely rough and feels as if it is exfoliating unevenly. I couldn’t even stand it for long and rinsed after a couple of seconds. I do like the ingredients and the company but I’d prefer the other scrub they have instead. Though a bit much for my face, this scrub works great on my feet and hands. I would not recommend this for sensitive skin.

I’m a huge fan of the Eminence line but don’t really care for this exfoliator. I tend to like a more physical scrub as opposed to the touted “gentals” with sparsely-distributed particles. This one, however, is a bit much. The combo of big particles (poppy seeds) with smaller, rough sand-like particles makes it awkward to apply the right amount of pressure. Plus it’s the consistency of week old Jell-o. Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate is my favorite, but at $85 it should also vacuum the house. The hunt’s still on.

This is the best exfoliator I have used. It’s very finely-grained and the particles are rounded to avoid the sort of damaging, scratchy texture that most scrubs have. It has never irritated my skin, which tends to break out in reaction to products very easily, and really powers through dead skin to buff away the layer of dead skin, grime, and oil that can form on the skin for those of us with oily/combo skin.
It also does well in loosening clogged pores compared to other scrubs I have tried. It leaves the skin smooth and fairly hydrated, and like another reviewer mentioned, pairs well with the Stone Crop Gel cleanser.
The only downside is that the grit gets caught in the threads of the cap, making it easy for the scrub to dry out. You can add distilled water to it if it’s thickening too much, and it will re-hydrate again to a gel.

great scrub. it works really well. tough enough to work and gentle enough not to irritate my sensitive skin. be careful of not getting the sugar and the poppyseed in your eyes. its really painful. if you like Suki lemongrass cleanser, you will like this, this one is more of a 2 times a week treatment rather than everyday. great for clogged pores and dead dry skin. perfect before the peel or serum. it feels completely clean after the use.

Love it – smells great – works great. I have oily and acnegenic skin and am now getting wrinkles. If I use this 3-5 times per week, my skin looks and feels like a baby’s butt. I also get peels done once a month, but this is more of a scrub and lets you focus on target areas. I LOVE it and I am very picky about my products! This one is worth the money and also a real joy to use like you’re at the spa. Plus, th fact that it is natural and wont give you cancer is awesome too.

Love, love, love this scrub! It is a bit expensive, but so worth it. I bought my last tub in July and after using 2-3 times/week, still have enough for another couple months. I only use two pea-sized amounts for my face and neck. It’s a gritty scrub, which is what I find so great about it. I agree with the previous reviewer on the gel-like consistencty – it’s easy to spread around, unlike other, creamier scrubs which seem to disappear as soon as I start rubbing. My skin feels very refreshed after using it. The packaging isn’t the greatest: it comes in a tub with a small scoop. I lost the scoop after a few months and started using my fingers. Not the most sanitary, a large squeeze tube would be a better option. I will definitely be purchasing again though, as it’s the only scrub I’ve ever used on a consistent basis.
EDT 8/9/08: I ran out of this a couple of months ago and have not repurchased. I still stand by my initial review that this is a great scrub. It is, however, expensive and sort of a pain to get (I have to order EO on the internet – you may have an actual retailer near you. I first got it at a spa in CA.). Desperate for a gritty, grainy scrub and no time to wait for shipping, I started using St. Ives, which gets the job done. I may repurchase EO Pear & Poppy Seed once St. Ives has run out.
Oh! And I 2nd the reviewer below me who suggests EO Hungarian Mud Mask – not for the sensitive skinned though. Does burn. A lot. In a good way. 🙂

I have to agree that this is an excellent scrub. I have oily/big-pored skin and this works great. I like to use it on my shoulder/upper back area but because it’s expensive, I use it sparingly. It’s gel like, so it’s better for me than creamy scrubs. The one thing that I’d prefer is finer scrubbing grains since they’re bigger than what I’m used to. Because my skin isnt really sensitive (unless i’m using acid based exfoliants) it doesn’t bother me though. It’s worth trying out their masks & scrubs, they’re the best plus the ingredients are high quality organics. Another suggestion is the hungarian mud mask. It has salicylic acid and works great. Just make sure you’re not on rx treatments or a high acid formula or it can burn like hell (even though it usually subsides) since it contains ingredients that encourage circulation. If not, it has a mild tingling.

This is one of the best physical exfoliants I have used. The reason why I don’t like it is the packaging, but other than that, the feel of my skin is awesome afterwards and very very little is needed. It really is great for all skin types. I prefer enzyme type exfoliants and gommages but this one is up there on my list for manual work (lazy butt here).
