I love the idea of mixing my own foundation! To me it means having the ability to make it darker or lighter as the seasons change.
The mixing process is cool and the price point is awesome, but the foundation itself oxidise badly. When I mix it I can’t rely on the colors of my other foundations. I have to make it lighter. Once I put the foundation on it gets two shades darker within 5minutes. I don’t like foundations that oxidise.
The powder has a light to medium buildable coverage which usually fits right into my preferences. I don’t see that I wear any product on my face, yet it doesn’t improve my skin as well as my HG foundation does.
On photos my face looks like I don’t wear any complexion makeup, literally nothing! But the end of the day my normal to dry skin look shiny. It doesn’t look shiny if I wear no makeup.
I’ve bought a trial kit and I won’t be buying a full size product.

I have used everyday minerals in fawn (now discontinued but a beautiful fair yellow based shade) and then winged butter in summer then with color and formula changes tried and used Lucy minerals. I was looking for something with more yellow shades and found silk naturals. I am finding that coverage and staying power are definitely lacking on this. Also struggling with color; I tried warm gold and much too brown in the base. Nice foundation if you want to mix colors possibly but not enough coverage and like 10 minutes of staying power on me.

Well, I’m going to have say this is a no go for me. I could not get the mix right even after scouring their forums. Every formula I tried just looked like dirt on my face. Just too ashy looking. I do like their blur and perfecting powder and will likely still use those but I think mixing your own foundation is just too much trouble for me personally. Warm Gold was suggested too me but It was just dirty looking on my face, likely too much olive toned.

I really, really wanted to like this product. I loved the concept: natural ingredients, mixing it myself to achieve a perfect colour for my skin tone, a light coverage for every day use.
Unfortunately, I was severely disappointed. I bought the starter-kit that came with different tones, and tested between olive & warm gold. It took me a long time to mix and find my colour, which is definitely not as easy as it looks. After mixing to perfection, the colour was correct but too “blocky” and dull looking, it didn’t give me a bright dewy appearance but a sort of dirty dullness. I got the original because I have good skin (no spots, just some redness and minor blemishes). This covered nothing, not even the most minor skin blemishes. It did the same job as my translucent finishing powder. When trying to top up, it made my skin look too powdery and chalky. After one hour, my skin looking super oily (even though my skin is not oily at all). The packaging is inconvenient which made it easy to spill a lot of powder. Very disappointed with this product, which is a pity because I had high expectations.

Silk Naturals is PHENOMENAL! I got the heavy coverage starter kit in ebony and the value is amazing. I’ll be able to use it for at least 4 months. What else is good is you can buy untinted base and the foundation tint separately. I’m very fair, so I know I’ll need to buy lots of untinted base before I need more tint. There are also three levels of coverage, so you can choose the amount of coverage you need. I chose heavy because I have a lot of redness and freckles I like to cover, and Bare Minerals wasn’t cutting it. The heavy coverage completely transforms my skin and doesn’t feel like a mask whatsoever. One possible negative I noticed other reviewers commenting on was that mixing the foundation can be difficult. If you have odd coloration or problem skin, it could be a time consuming process to mix your shade, but definitely don’t rule out Silk Naturals. However, I think the majority of people won’t have a hard time mixing. Mine came out a little too pink, but it blends so well that you don’t have to get it perfect for it to match. I would definitely recommend Silk Naturals to everyone who wears mineral foundation.

I loved the idea of mixing my own perfect shade, but after literally months of trying to get it right, I finally threw in the towel. To be fair, I have a lot of redness from rosacea, as well as some hyper-pigmentation, and even if my skin were perfect, it still is not one flat shade by any means. However, there are two issues I had with the Silk Naturals system that made it unworkable for me. First off I didn’t find the formulas to be very natural looking on my mature skin, so even though I tried both medium coverage and original, neither looked very good even when the shade was very close. Second, the base shades that we’re supposed to start with are all extremely brown and/or olive, except for the peach, which is extremely red. My skin falls more in the yellow range, with a dash of peach, pink and beige. But neither buttery gold nor warm gold was even remotely close! Basically I would have had to use primarily yellow and pink booster, with just a dash of buttery or warm gold. At that point it gets really confusing, not to mention difficult to experiment with since there are so many scoops of this and that. I literally bought some special “micro” measuring spoons online so that I could make smaller test batches.
So… I decided to try some Meow samples once again. I had tried a few before, and liked them but couldn’t find a perfect match. This time I nailed it with a half and half mixture of Frisky Siamese and Naughty Manx in Pampered Puss (a very natural looking formula). I’m so relieved to finally put away all my mixing bowls, measuring spoons, packets of this and jars of that. Ugh! I can’t believe how much time I’ve wasted! Many of you with less skin challenges than I have may fare better with Silk Naturals, so I would still recommend them, but not for me.
So here’s a tip for those of you hoping to formulate a sunny yellow-based shade like EDM Winged Butter or Light; Meow’s Angora, Manx, Chartreux, Abyssinian; Alima Warm, etc. Don’t search the forums for advice, because the suggestions for duping these colors won’t work. Instead, purchase a crap load of the yellow booster and maybe one packet of the pink booster, and expect to be using more booster than pre-blended color base. As far as which color base to choose, it won’t matter all that much in the end, because you’re basically just using it to add a dash of brown. Just pick one that sounds reasonable, and you’ll be fine.

I started using this a few years ago when I had severe acne, and I am 100% certain that it contributed to my acne clearing (the zinc?). I really can’t stand the look of foundation on myself, however this is so natural, light and breathable it feels like I’m not wearing makeup at all, and actually feels like I’m doing my skin good. It also doubles as a concealer if you apply it with a concealer brush – I do that some days when I don’t feel like wearing it on my whole face – I just put it on any blemishes and it blends perfectly with my skin. Just make sure your skin is super hydrated — this foundation doesn’t look great if your skin is parched.

as for glitter in it as mentioned in another review , yes it does but once applied it is invisible and actally gives you a skin look as opposed to a flat matte mask look that can happen with many mineral makeup brands
i wear this every day with Sunkissed Bronzer and have many comments on my SKIN and not my makeup!

I’m so disappointed with this product. I have sensitive skin which has previously reacted to mineral foundations. I also have acne-prone skin which has been breaking out like mad due to my Bourjois CC Foundation so I thought I’d go natural with my makeup (as I have with my skin care) and because this has minimal ingredients I thought I’d try a mineral foundation again. Well the first thing I noticed in the packaging was the glitter. I cannot understand why any make up designed to be worn by adults would have glitter in it – no one about the age of 12 wants their face to sparkle! If they were aiming for dewy they failed miserably. Secondly this has minimal coverage. It also appears powdery, so building it up to get more coverage just appears more powdery. The powder obviously clings to any dry patches, highlighting drying spots. I managed to get this online for £21, however the RRP is £27.50 -which bascially saying it is a high end product – it is not in any way. The only positive is that it hasn’t irritated my skin. I definitely wouldn’t buy this again as I’m not into the powdered flaky glitterball look.

This product is absolutely amazing!!! Definitely recommend this to anyone. I use liquid foundation but this over the top and it locks in my foundation and creates a flawless (non cakey) face that lasts for hours and is great to put over any liquid foundations that have SPF in it that could make you have a white face in photos.
Yes the price is expensive here ($60 in Australia) but its organic, vegan, not tested on animals and you know it’s great for your face.
Pros: packaging, flawless face, feels great, skin can breathe, not tested on animals, organic, natural ingredients, great colours
Cons: expensive (but worth it!)
Team this with their inika kabuki brush and you are set to a beautiful and flawless face!

This is an amazing product, I’ve been using liquid foundations for years because they seem to provide better coverage for my many blemishes but I’ve rencently decided to let my skin breathe a bit since I have a feeling all that make up was not really helping (and I always use good quality brands).
This mineral foundation looks very natural and covers imperfections quite well, although if they are very visible, it won’t cover them completely as a liquid foundation would, HOWEVER, this one stays put all day, my skin looks as fresh in the evening as it does when just applied in the morning, while liquid foundations would make my skin look flawless when just applied but would gradually disappear from my face during the day and leave my face looking uneven and all blemishes exposed (even Estee Lauder Doublewear, yes).
I bought the shade “Unity”, which is a tiiiiny bit darker than my skin shade, but it gives me a nice healthy touch (my skin colour is NC15). I was scared to order the lighter one because it was described as “peachy” -not flattering for me- and the lightest one Grace” seemed a bit extremely light, but I might try that one next time and use a blusher if needed.
Also, this seems to let my skin breathe and doesn’t clog my pores, so bonus skincare!
Overall, very happy with it and would definitely repurchase.

After 2 months of using this I am not as happy with it as I was at the beginning. I’ve found my skin looks really dry with this if I smile I feel like my skin is pulling and it accentuates fine lines. I also feel like it is not providing very good coverage unless I apply a lot but then the product just looks cakey. One other thing that I am not really happy with is the amount of time it takes to apply.
I think perhaps this is good for a light to medium coverage but as soon as you pack on too much it just looks terrible. I have bought a primer to use with it so I might try that but I have actually purchased the Inika liquid foundation because I think something hydrating will work better for my skin.
I think I will still use this as a setting powder.

Honestly this foundation has saved my skin…I have extremely sensitive skin that gets majorly oily!
Everything i put on my face makes my skin feel sticky and oily, not to mention my huge pores on my nose.
I noticed this mineral foundation made my pores so small after extended use (even my sister in-law noticed). On the first few use’s i found that it accentuated my pores.. however over time it does make them smaller.
It also made me less oily after extended use.
I don’t know why i keep straying from this foundation (I think i get bored and want to try new things) Don’t think I’ll be doing that anymore.
I also noticed it clears my skin up…again after extended use! I can’t say enough good things about this…It’s so hard to find something to go with your skin, however i highly recommend this. The pot lasts for months and the more you use it the less you need over time (my skin became so clear that i only dusted a light amount just to keep me matte looking)
If you decide to try it, make sure you test it over a month to get proper results!
I definitely recommend….Even though it does not specify whether it is OIL-FREE – I don’t find i get nearly as oily as Estee Lauder Double wear or any other OIL Free foundations!!
TEST it out…OVER TIME you will not be disappointed!

I love this product, gives me fantastic coverage and leaves my skin smooth and soft. I have the lightest shade and thinks it’s the best mineral makeup I’ve purchased so far. I’ve tried all of the leading brands but this is my favourite. The pots are huge so plenty of product. Love the sliding protective cover inside tat stops it spilling when you open it. Even better still, it has no nasty ingredients in!

Comes out very shiny and clumps on face. Does not come out matt at all and is cakey with no coverage. Absolute waste of money. I recommend rimmel stay clear or which powder over this and both are under a quarter of price.

I tried this after a friend started selling it.
Although I had no skin break outs and the powder was nice, it had very, very little coverage and seemed to be milled to finely. For someone with acne you need more than a little powder to cover your face, which is surely the main market they are going for. My sister has naturally dark circles under her eyes, and this again provided no coverage for them as she tried it also.
I ended up using it very quickly and although the product was well placed price wise within the market, it ended up making it poor value for money.
It really was just like using a pressed powder to be honest.
The packaging was absolutely awful; you cannot transport it in the slightest without it all tipping through the powder holes. Very disappointing for a brand I have loved on toiletries.

My skin is dry and very sensitive, so I have a hard time finding a foundation and concealer that doesn’t make me breakout, but after hearing so much about this foundation I decided to give it a try. It’s definitely pricey, especially since I was looking for a foundation, concealer and light powder. I spent around $145 on all three products but didn’t mind since I was hoping that this would become a new favorite and not make me breakout. I purchased this in October and still had plenty of foundation in the bottle and it’s now the middle of January, so it does last a while.
I struggled with these products at first because the foundation seemed to get really greasy looking throughout the day, but I started setting it with a very light dusting of the pressed powder and it looked so great. (I can’t use primer because it always seems to clog my pores) ~ The foundation was dewy but not greasy and had a beautiful glow. Super comfortable to wear and didn’t feel like I was wearing anything too thick.
Well, fast forward a few months and now I have horrible acne all over my face. It seemed to be okay for the first two months, but into December I started getting little clusters of acne on my chin and cheeks. (I’ve never ever broken out on my cheeks before) Not only acne, but it was almost like a rash. Especially on my chin and around my nose, I developed red spots that looked like acne but itched and hurt very badly. My face became such a mess that I haven’t been leaving the house because it looks so bad and feels horrible. I thought it could have been from my birth control but I stopped using these products about five days ago and my skin is already clearing up.
My sister has skin similar to mine and she started using the BB cream around the same time I bought my foundation, and the same thing happened to her.
Luckily I was able to return these products to Nordstrom’s where I purchased them, but I will never recommend Jane Iredale products to anyone again. If you have sensitive skin, I highly recommend NOT trying these products!!

I could never ask to get any more out of a makeup product. I began using this three years ago when it was recommended to me by an esthetician. At the time I had severe breakouts on my cheeks and jawline. My skin has since cleared up (not due to the foundation) but I must say this has been an extremely trustworthy product for someone afraid to put any makeup on their face.
I apply it with their handi brush and it makes my face look flawless. It provides very good coverage without clogging my pores, and to me it feels very light on the skin. I have tried other mineral foundations, and none of them compare. I would recommend that anyone with sensitive skin tread lightly as with any product, but generally this would work for many different skin types.

I was very excited to try this product. I’ve seen many ladies wearing this and their skin looked like perfection! I used the Smooth Affair primer and then this foundation. The results are beautiful: My skin was dewy and glowing, all the imperfections completely covered. The makeup stayed on all day. I would advise not wearing any moisturizer under this foundation as it provides more than enough moisture. When I took the makeup off, my skin had exploded with acne; this was not an allergic reaction (no itching, redness, etc.). I had to give this product away since my skin hated it. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with this product.

This is one of the best foundations I’ve ever used. I love that it doesn’t have a bunch of junky chemicals that break me out and gives pretty good coverage. I have to use a heavier foundation on top of it if i’m going to a special event, etc but that’s a rare occasion.
The price is higher, but for me, it’s worth it. I’m on my fourth bottle now.

If you like cream foundations and need light to medium coverage this is ideal for you. The “liquid” foundation has a weird consistency at first, but there are few things that will ease the application:
1- Keep foundation in a warm room… if you are in a cold room (or if you are a mobile make up artist like me, you will need to wait until the temperature is right).
2- Apply with warm fingers… yes! fingers. Sponges and brushes will not get you the best application. Using your fingers leads to a great coverage and much better control over this product.
3- Set with translucent powder.
4- Don’t expect 12-hour coverage if you have combination skin.
It is ideal for those with sensitive skin and I believe it can be returned if there are any allergic reactions (ask before buying).
The only think I don’t like about this products (and jane irdale in general) is the price. I think that any revlon foundation will do a very similar job for a third of the price. The foundation will last about a month if used daily. So unless you really need sensitive-skin makeup I would go with something else.

It`s been over 5 years that I’ve been using mineral makeup instead of ordinary foundation and concealer. I started with the Bare Escentuals kit, but I also like Jane Iredale and Cover FX just as much. I`m hooked on mineral makeup because it doesn’t feel or look like I`m wearing makeup. But at the same time covers completely and it lasts all day long! If I have a zit, it takes a few layers, but it covers that too. No more cake face 🙂

I’m really surprised there are no reviews on this wonderful Mineral Foundation on here. I have been searching for my HG for years and years. Oily/Acne Prone and VERY sensitive, I breakout on almost everything or foundations make my skin very oily. I am so happy to report, Carley’s Mineral Foundation is perfect for me. Great buildable coverage, fair color selection (I wear Light Neutral – I’m a redhead NC15), it does NOT break me out, controls oil very well, does not make me greasy or oily, and does not exaggerate the large pores on my nose. This mix-it-yourself powder mineral foundation has been the perfect foundation for me. As I have acne-prone skin, I switched from a liquid foundation to this to help keep pores unclogged. It does just that, and very few of my pores are now clogged. Being fair skinned, I really enjoyed being able to develop a “recipe” of white foundation + tint that never looks too dark on me. Because of blemishes and acne scars, I use the medium coverage foundation base instead of the original, which I have read doesn’t have much coverage. The medium coverage is perfect and looks extremely natural in most lights. It does not look heavy but makes my skin look like my skin, but better.
If you have an idea of the level of coverage you want (i.e., original, medium, heavy, all-purpose, vegan — you can read about them on the silknaturals website), order a sample kit of that foundation base that comes with little samples of the different tints, post a photo of yourself without makeup in natural light to the forum on the website, and one of the company’s experts (thanks JenW!) will reply promptly and advise a good recipe of number of scoops of base plus a scoop of a certain tint. Your sample kit will have what you need to try different recipes out.
This foundation looks good for probably about ten hours before it needs touching up. I also use SilkNaturals untinted oil control “blur” to set the foundation and control oil.
Not only do I love this product but I love this company and their great customer service. I highly recommend checking out their website and all that they offer.

So far this is the best mineral makeup I’ve tried. It looks super natural, is weightless, you actually REALLY can’t see it on your face, even when you work big amounts and the color is adjustable (can be a pain though if you need a quick fix an realize you’re out of foundation). Also it doesn’t stain clothes, pillows, your boyfriend’s clothes etc. Like I can nap on a white pillow with it on and it’s gonna leave nothing.
I ran out of the white powder and it takes few weeks to arrive to my destination so I purchased Youngblood which was actually A LOT more expensive, and it can’t be compared. Yes, the coverage, but Silk Naturals foundation stays on for the whole day while Youngblood runs and melts. Also Silk Naturals won’t accentuate your pores and imperfections. I’d also recommend to get a “glow” powder to mix with the foundation, it gives a really nice dewy look without sparkles. I’ve been using this product for over 1.5 years and have no thoughts about trying something new.
I’ve uploaded a picture here where I’m wearing it, it is only foundation there yet, no glows, though I pre-mix the glow which those who like matte finish might wanna skip.

I love this make up. I do not like conventional make up it makes me feel cakey and yuck. I lOVE LOVE this. You DO HAVE to use the Inika brush with this, so it’s worth buying the starter pack to begin as you get a better deal. Also you need to know how to apply correctly or you won’t get the results you want- you brush smoothly into skin, dont buff like with most other mineral foundations ( such as ID bare minerals). But it lasts all day/night, looks good in photos because it doesnt make you flash up all white and it has an SPF =)

I love this foundation! I’d tried mineral powders before, but none of them ever stayed on my skin for more than an hour, and it was hard to find a good colour for my very pale skin. I’m now using Inika Grace, and love it! The texture is fine and the powder is easy to apply with a Kabuki brush. I just brush on with downwards strokes, and then use a smaller brush over my red veins, where I used to put concealer. This powder covers them so well I don’t need concealer any more. I also used – and still like – Estee Lauder Doublewear makeup, but it’s much thicker than the Inika powder, and yet the powder gives just as much coverage.
I use the powder on top of my moisturizer and sunscreen: first I apply Topix Replenix cf Cream; then Clarins High Protection spf 40, which acts as a primer; and finally, the Inika powder. So far, this is working very well. It seems to have actually improved my skin’s texture too, as I can’t see the open pores any more!
An excellent product. My only complaints are the price, which seems very high for such a small amount; and the packaging, which is somewhat cheap. But still worth the money for the great colours and texture.

I had high hopes for this product as I liked the fact it did not have bismuth oxychloride in it like many mineral powders. I bought the powder in Nurture and there is nothing wrong with the shade. That is fine. I have used many mineral powders and this is without a doubt the one which leaves me with a shiny and almost greasy face. I am so disappointed.
I have been told I should buy the Inika mineral setting powder which is very expensive and a tiny 3g pot. But why should I have to fork out again? My mineral powders in the past were fine without any setting powder. Inika mineral powder foundation is obviously OK for people with dry skin, but steer clear if you have oily or combination skin. My face is like a chip pan!!!!

I have been using this foundation for over a year. This foundation gives you a great coverage where it doesn’t look like you put on the foundation. It evens out your skin tone naturally. Just use a little to cover the flaws and blend it in with the rest of your skin lightly. This has natural ingredients which makes the foundation not have an expiration date. I had been fighting acne for many years. My esthetician recommended this foundation and this one does not break me out at all. I would buy this product again.

I was running low on my usual LaurEss mineral Minimalist foundation, and after I placed that order, I decided to just play around with another minearl makeup.
I tried the Jane Iredale in Latte (a bit dark for me, actually, I realized, after I put it on at home, though the salesperson took me outside in the sun and insisted that one was the most natural on my neck/jawline.). But that was fine. I liked the coverage of my hyperpigmented and rosy irritated areas on my cheeks.
However, I got a raging allergic reaction. I had swelling that even crept up on one eyelid. OMG, it was awful. I had to put steroid cream on my eyes and cheeks and bridge of nose.
Well, this had a lovely coverage, some nice “yellow” toned and “global” (darker) skin tones…but if you have sensitive skin, I suggest you STAY AWAY from it.
Packaging is lovely, too, and for the price, I should have gotten a free brush. Damn, this stuff is pricey.
Okay, back to my regular Minimalist and Ethereal LaurEss (custom mix, half the price of Jane Iredale almost) which causes me no irritation at all and is yellow enough for me. 🙂

I liked the coverage of this foundation, but unfortunately it did make me break out:(. I am not sure if it was something I was allergic to. Tried it twice, and same reaction each time.
