Destroyed my face and caused pimples. Very strong perfume and the cream feels like vaseline. Won’t let your skin breath. Probably worked in the 50’s and 60’s when Marilyn Monroe used this cream because they reformulated this cream so it is not the same cream she used. Ugly packaging too, the old one was better.

I love this as a night moisturizer it takes to long to sink in for day time use, in the morning my skin is plump, and slightly dewy(healthy not shinny).

It seems that I have finally found my HG product. After many, many little skin care excursions (Manuka Honey, Apple Cider Vinegar, La Roche Posay, Fresh, etc) I always seemd to go back to Creme de La Mer. However, since I used quite a bit I ended up having to buy a new creme every month and that became just too expansive.
I don’t remember why or how I got my sight on EL products but when I was in Germany for vacation on Christmas I ended up buying the pre cleansing oil, sea mud soap and light controlling cleanser and LOVED it.
I also wanted to but the active Phelityl cream but the store was out, thus I got 3 big samples.
Usually I don’t get pimples, however, I had a huge cystic thing in my chin and was dumb enough and tried to get rid of it and ended up with a bunch of raw and beet red skin. It was a nightmare.
Once I applied to active Phelityl cream the huge sore felt immediately better and all the redness was gone by the next morning. I was quite obsessed with the creme and went back to get 3 more samples to last me until I was back in the US and I could order more.
Using the whole Erni Laszlo routine was the best choice I ever made for my skin. Forget Creme de la Mer, Active Phelityl Cream is much, much better. I just finished my first tub (yes, I use way to much, usually the 1.7 ounces should last a few months and not 31/2 weeks) but I made sure to have a replacement right away.
If your on the fence about buying this creme, I highly recommend it. Your skin will be plumped, glow and pimple free.

I got a generous sample of this from my best friend, and it’s lasted me for several months, using less than a fourth of a pea size at night around my eyes and on dry patches. My skin is extremely oily in general, but I love a thick night moisturizer with a bit of slip to it. This feels silky and adds a nice sheen to my skin, I could never wear this underneath makeup, but I often pat a tiny amount over my cheek and brow bones to highlight those areas. I don’t know if I would buy this, because I use it so little. I’m always afraid this will break me out if I used it all over my T Zone, and the only time I apply it to my whole face is when I’m about to color my hair. Overall, though, this is lovely and I’d definitely recommend to people with very dry skin and no acne problems.

This is now called “Active Phelityl Intensive Cream” but it is the same great formulation that I have been using off and on for 20 years. This used to be marketed for “slightly dry” skin, now labeled all skin types, but I could never understand why only slightly dry as it is basically Vaseline, but much better than Vaseline. Dry, very dry, slightly dry, you are either going to love or hate this one. I love it as I like greasy face creams that take awhile to absorb, especially at night. I am urber sensitive to fragrances but this has never bothered me, but it does have a slightly petrolatum with lavender scent. I put my serum on and then smooth this over the top at night, but I also use this during the day slightly lighter handed. The texture isn’t for everyone, but those who are dry skinned might want to give this a try if other creams have not worked for you. A little goes a long way and the 1.7oz jar lasts me 4-6 months depending on the climate. Just as a side note, when the new jar came out it is now glass instead of plastic and feels like it weighs about 5 lbs in my arthritic hands. I actually putty’d the jar to my counter to stop me from picking it up least I drop it. There was nothing wrong with the plastic jars of the past 😉

This is a very moisturizing night cream. I tried it a few years ago and it worked very well on my dry/very dry skin. The only negative was the scent, which I found to be so strong and overwhelming that I had to stop using the cream. The ingredient list is short, but fragrance is about the middle ingredient. I would use it again if EL reduced or (preferably) eliminated the fragrance. The cream, like all Erno Laszlo creams, is packaged in a large, heavy, square, glass jar.

Ok.. I, too, purchased this product only because I read Marilyn Monroe said this was her favorite. Since I a HUGE MM fan, I thought this was the closest I would ever get to MM… by using the same products as her, I would have lovely skin like her. I was at my local Nordstroms and I asked for a sample first to see if my face would tolerate it since I have dry, sensitve, reactive skin. After the first night of trying it, i was hooked. I loved the consistency, the smell and the overall feel of this lovely cream. It is similar to the consistency of Elizabeth Arden 8 hour protective cream except not that gooey, but more “creamy”. I loooove the smell,, it has a soothing, floral, old hollywood glam to it.. kind of like MM herself. I love how my skin feels in the morning and how the smell just lingers on my pillow case. It makes my dry, parched, flakey skin smooth and glowing. Yes, it’s quite expensive at $65 a jar, ,but I would definitely repurchase it- no doubt.

First let me say that I had used up this cream like 20 years ago when I was a young lady that was thrilled to spread on her face whatever was hype, high-end or expensive. I was unable to read an ingredients list.
recently – they revamped the line .- I was given a sample of this and i was happy to use it again…. a kind of flash-back, until I read the ingredients list.
Now I am a savy consumer and I’m very attentive to what I put on my face.
Price tag 120 Euros and you get: Dimethicone, Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil), Petrolatum, (main ingredients, in the first two lines) Methylparaben, Propylparaben… not even a trace of some natural extract or plant.
Please bear in mind that Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil) & Petrolatum are among the cheapest ingredients in the industry (you find that in Nivea cream or Dove body lotion), that is very fine if you want to splash oil derived stuff, that is harmful for the environement, let alone your skin. I can understand their presence in a cheap lotion like Nivea, but I cannot admit it being the main ingredient in a 120 Euros, 50ml jar.
The cream itself is hydrating and skins in, that’s for sure (used it on my hands).
But please, please please, save your money and buy something more natural /less harmful for a fraction of the price.

I finally bought this cream to try it after 20 years of being a Laszlo devotee. I currently use the phelityl oil, sea mud bar cleansing/splashing ritual, the light controlling lotion, the phelityl lotion w/ spf, the active phelityl cream @ night. I have been using this formula phelityl cream for a couple of months but have not really noticed a lot of noticeable improvement to my skin. I have always had the famed Laszlo glow just from using the previously mentioned products in my prescribed ritual. The cream is white in color and smells slightly of clove – an ingredient that is supposed to be antibacterial and help combat blemishes. The texture is a little thick and can be a little difficult to spread onto the skin yet it does not feel heavy. The texture is not as heavy or thick as the active phelityl cream nor is it a strongly fragranced as that one. This cream does impart a subtle glow to the skin. In my opinion it is just a nice basic night cream to keep the skin moist and soft. As with all the Laszlo products, it is a little pricey. I don’t remember the exact amount, but it was over a $100.

I can remember when I first started to buy skincare but didn’t know anything about it. I read this line was favored by Marilyn Monroe so I thought it would be the best. Well maybe in its day but today even cheap drugstore skincare have much better ingredients than this line does. This brand ignores nearly every single rule for healthy skin. It is amazing it is still in business, it is literally some of the worst formulated skin care on the market. Most of the products contain very little to none antioxidants, peptides or cell communicating ingredients available in even basic hand and body creams now. Good thing because the jar packaging used would not protect them. They are loaded with irritating fragrances which has been proven to slow collagen production (which can cause even drier skin) and impede your skins ability to heal. There is literally nothing good about these products and it is amazing that they charge so much and don’t even offer ingredients that would fight off free radical damage. I know of no people having the slightest knowledge of skin care (BASIC KNOWLEDGE) who would put this overpriced garbage on their face. The only people I know who still find this relevant, or even safe, are people from Marilyns generation. If you are looking for a product that is MUCH safer and more effective, you would be better off with ANY skin care line from Walgreens. Oil of Olay, Eucerine, CeraVe, Neutrogena and ANY other line from local pharmacies would not only be a thousand times more effective but also much cheaper. I am just shocked with all of the amazing advances in skin care that they are still able to not only charge this much for this but have customers who would buy it. Please, for your skins benefit, find ANYTHING ELSE. You would be better off with plain vaseline because it doesn’t contain the irritating fragrance that this line does.

I actually like this…I was kind of hesitant to try it on my face since it seems to be heavy and it has mineral oil which I steer away most times due to my very sensitive and acne-prone skin..but when I put it on, it didn’t suffocate my skin like other heavy mosturizers and also it didn’t make my skin super oily either…surprising this morning I woke up with dewy skin and really feel like it evens out my skin a bit, and I just use it last night..will keep using it and update if things change, but so far I like it. Usually if my skin doesn’t agree with something, it will show instantly like after one time use I can tell whether or not a product causes break out or clogged pores, but this product surprisingly didn’t cause any break out yet, so I’m feeling very hopeful of it…
EDIT (7/13/2014): Changed my mind, this product does actually even my skin out, and made my acne marks less visible, but it makes me have those small clogged pore pimples…I know mineral oil does not sit well with my skin, but thought I give it a try, sadly it doesn’t work and just break my skin out…so I guess I will just use this for my neck and lip now…I will just stick with Clinique serum for now, it brightens my skin without causing clogged pores…

One of my favorite moisturizer. This product is suitable for all skin type and you can feel really hydrated after using. Don’t be afraid of the cream texture, you feel soft and non-oily after applying.

Got a sample of this from the company. Love how this deeply moisturizes my skin AND it doesn’t cause my moody clog prone skin to break out! My skin stays smooth, even and baby butt soft and it’s great when the heat kicks on in cold weather. Just wish it wasn’t so pricey. Will buy a jar if I win the lotto soon.

I have been using this moisturizer at night (as intended by Erno Laszlo) for a few weeks, and I love it. I have combination skin in the cooler months (oily t-zone and normal-dry under my eyes, and on my neck). I use the entire EL ritual and I tweak it when the seasons change. I only use Phelityl cream in the cooler months on the normal-dry areas. It has a mild, pleasant, fresh scent and it doesn’t irritate my sensitive under eye area. I suffer with allergies and rub my eyes a lot so the skin underneath tends to be dry. This works great as an eye and neck cream.
I have to add that EL makes quality products that are meant to be tailored to skin type and skin concern. It is disappointing to read bad reviews by people who did not use the product properly.

I shamefully admit that I bought this because of the fact that Marilyn Monroe used to it. Ive always thought her skin looked very smooth and unlined (considering that facial botox didnt wasnt around in the 50s/60s). Anyway, its expensive first off and the packaging is very elegant. The cream itself is like a very milky vaseline (or aquaphor for Amercian ladies!). Its not quite as gooey or sticky as vaseline, its more of a smooth, rich texture. It smells clean and comforting- kind of like baby lotion. My skin is very very dry (with an oily T zone) so I need something rather heavy and moisturising for my face in order to prevent lines forming. My skin gets easily chapped by the wind and I dont sunbathe anymore as my skin just cannot take it- it just goes red and angry. This cream is a Godsend for me. It is the only thing ive found (apart from unrefined shea butter which i had to stop using as it was too clogging for my face) that keeps my skin fresh, dewy, completely hydrated and plumped up all day long. The cream is not only moisturising but it forms a barrier to my skin that prevents the wind, rain and general harshness of life from touching it. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!! What I really love is the plumping effect I get from this- my skin seems plumped with moisture and completely and utterly comforted. In fact, this cream is kind of like giving your face a hug lol. I do feel that if your skin is very oily or you prefer thin, watery lotions then you will not like this as it is a very rich, heavy cream. If your skin is like mine however you will adore this with a passion. Marilyn was right- this cream is like heaven.

OMGosh I totally love this cream! I have very dry skin and was always on the hunt for relief. This is something I will put on on a day that I am just hanging around the house. I put it in my hands warm it up then apply it to my face. Yep, it does stay on the top of the skin and as it warms up after wearing it a while I keep smoothing it in. My skin is radient and soft the next day and my cronic eczyma has dissapeared. I am especially dry in my brows and this is remedied by appling a very small amount to the brow (even looks great with full make up as it slicks the brows down without the flacky gel happening). I am a make up junkie and frequently will switch from something I ‘love’ to a product I purchased because it offers GWP. Not this one. I am a die hard user. Just hope it never gets discontinued.

I am a product junkie so decided to give this a test drive one day as I was wandering around the mall one day. I have dry/dehydrated skin and am always in the search of all things related to hydration. I’ll be really honest – I was not and have never been sold on the Laszlo concept of purchasing an entire series of products from one brand to support my skin care routine – which is something I feel the brand and the SA’s push very hard on…more so than most brands.
However having said that the SA that I spoke to said that I could purchase the Active Phyelityl cream on its own and it would do wonders for me.
It is a thick petroleum type of cream – not unlike the Kiehel’s Anti-Oxidant Skin Preserver – which I love. However I was never able to get this cream to absorb. In addition to that I never woke up feeling that this product really hydrated my skin. As soon as I washed my face in the morning removing the product I was back to dry skin. Back to dry skin after putting up with a thick layer of stuff on my face that did not absorb after 8 hours of sleep?!?!?! What the heck…and keep in mind that I’m just using Purpose for a cleanser – which is a mild cleanser.
In addition to that – the smell is HORRIBLE and is a smell that I can’t describe. It made me kind of queasy – but I would have been able to put up with the smell if the product actually did anything for me.
I will give this product points in the sense that it did not irritate my ubber sensitive skin and did not cause any breakouts.
I gave this product a 2 month trial before chucking it since it did nothing for my skin. Why pay 60 bucks for nada?

I’ve used pHelityl Cream on and off for years – from the days when I was a Laszlo devotee 100% (Laszlo products were all I used for skin care). I still make a point of always having a jar of this in my bathroom as it is a lovely moisturizer. It’s not high tech – no acids or Retin A or glycolic this or that – it’s one of the original Laszlo products – but it is a nice, moisturizing cream that isn’t too heavy or greasy, doesn’t clog my pores or break me out. When I do use this, it is always at night and sometimes over Clarins’s Blue Orchid Oil. Laszlo products generally have become difficult to purchase in Canada (and I don’t care to order them and have to pay shipping) and the price is a bit over the top but I will continue to buy this cream because it’s a great stand-by to have in my “arsenal”.

This was my favourite daily moisturizer this summer. I used it immediately after Laszlo sea mud oil+soap cleaning and it all worked like a charm. Love the texture, not greasy, but comforting and calming. Works nice for undereye area too. The scent is very subtle. A 60ml jar lasted for 5 months from May to Sept, and I cleaned the jar to the last drop! I need something more now since it’s cold, but next summer I’ll definitely buy this again.

I love the Laszlo oil/soap splashing routine, and have have a lot of success with it in clearing and cleaning my sensitive combination skin without stripping. I was clocked maybe 2 years ago at somewhere between 11:30 to 12, and switch between the black soap and the phyto soap, depending on time of year, etc.
However, this evening moisturizer has got to be the worst thing I’ve ever tried to use on my face. It is not at all moisturizing, it actually feels dryer after applying, and I feel like it’s really suffocating my skin when I put it on, and has given me little bumps on my temples. When I wake up, my skin looks puffy and lined. Awful, awful product in my opinion.
It was certainly overpriced, and I paid a markup because I bought it overseas. Total waste of money.
