Skin for Context: Light with Neutral undertones leaning warmer. Currently purging due to Curology. Normal to dry. Sensitive. Mildly textured.
I wanted to love this foundation. I tried to love this foundation, but, today I returned it to Sephora. Now, why did I want to love it?
Squalene- I use this everyday. My skin drinks it up. I figured since the foundation had squalene that we’d get along great.
Healthyish for skin- I’m by no means an all natural beauty junkie but I thought this sounded nicer for my skin then say something loaded with silicones.
Reviews- The beauty bloggers I follow rate this highly as the foundation for dewy, glowing skin. I love a good dewy look but my dry skin usually drinks up the oils or moisture that most provide.
So, what went wrong?
The shade. The lightest shade was the only one that matched my neck but it didn’t match my undertones necessarily. In fact this was probably was a full shade too light for me but the 1.5 was too orange/warm for me.
The coverage, which I hoped would make it to light/medium, was barely there. I had hoped it would be a more oily version of the Armani Maestro but it was not. This might have been due to how light it was in shade as well.
The staying power was good. It did last the day, but it also pooled in the lines by my mouth and got a bit oily on my cheeks right under my eyes.
It just wasn’t for me. Instead, I’ll stick to my armani luminous silk.

This was the third natural/green/clean foundation that I ever tried….and, so far, my favourite (of the 3 I’ve tried….other 3 being 100% pure and Antonym).
COVERAGE
– light to light medium
PROS
– lightest shade suits my fair complexion
– Natural/clean
– Available in sephora (online) which is why I bought it (more easily accessible than most other natural brands that arent so readily available) and sephora has a good return policy
CONS
– Packaging feels cheap, it’s plastic. Definitely the worst packaging of all the foundations I currently own. But, it’s what’s on the inside the counts
– Can get too oily … but sometimes it doesn’t. I dont what makes it really shiny and oily sometimes and other times ok. I didn’t change my skincare products. Putting a powder overtop is something you may want to consider (for oil control and to boost coverage)
– Application isn’t the easiest… by that I mean, I find that I have to apply first with a brush and then go over top with a beauty blender. If i only do one (either brush or BB), it doesnt look as good
OVERALL
– I think this is suited for someone with normal to dry skin. I’d stay away if you’re oily
– Because it is more “oily”/”serum-like”, I think this is a good winter time foundation
– I would not have this as my only foundation. I keep another one on hand for more full coverage and one that wont be so oily. This would be my “running errands on the weekend” foundation….not my work/fancy events foundation
***EDIT
Bumping this from 3 to 4 stars. Have actually really been enjoying this much more than my usual armani silk foundation

With serum foundations becoming all the rage, I was truly excited to try this new foundation. I have light-medium olive skin and have been recently leaning towards wearing more medium and warm tones, but the tone I first tried (Chios-SF6) was way too dark and pink for my complexion. The second tone I tried was Salina SF5 and that was pretty spot on, but was still significantly warmer and more tan than my actual skin tone. Because it was darker still, there was no brightening effect, but it does look extremely natural, like I just came back from a beach vacation. I initially did not like this foundation, which I think was due to trying the wrong shade and putting it on too thick, causing it to melt in some area and look dry-patchy in others. That said, I was still determined to try this foundation again, so I tracked the lighter shade SF5 locally. Exfoliating and using a better primer helped immensely, but this foundation is not super long lasting. It’s also has a light to medium coverage, so if you are looking for great coverage that lasts, you might want to look elsewhere. The tones in this foundation are way darker than I used to with any foundation, especially how they describe each color. I don’t think it’s accurate or on par with other foundations.
I also purchased a bottle of Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Le Teint in BD30 the same day I purchased the SF5, so I ended making quick comparison of the two. The YSL has a better brightening effect than the Ilia and it seemed longer lasting, with a lot more coverage. At this point, I’m resolved to keep both foundations and rotate them with my Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation-5, which is much more matte than either of the other two.
Update: Still too dark or tan and the next lighter is way too light. On top of that it either does not wear all that well or it’s too dark and I can see subtle changes over time. Returning this and the YSL, and bought another bottle of La Prairie in Peche and trying givenchy teint couture balm in Bege 4. So far the last two are the best for the summer months ahead. This is still not an entirely bad foundation for those that are dry and can find a good color match.
