I suffer chronic peeling lips – side effect of hayfever and general systemic sensitivity. I can hardly use a single lipstick or lip balm without my lips becoming worse and peeling more.
I’ve been using this product day in and day out for about 6 years, and I will never live without it again (in fact, I usually have three tubes at any given time – one for my bag, one for my night table, and one emergency spare). It genuinely soothes my lips and a single application lasts hours. It’s a little waxy – enough you know you’ve used it, totally scent-free and one tube lasts ages since you don’t have to use much at a time.
Totally in love – can’t recommend enough. Yes, it costs far more than other products out there, but I couldn’t pay enough for something that is genuinely effective for me.

Best lip balm ever!!! I’ve been on accutane and have literally tried every lip balm out there, nothing worked (aquaphor was too slippery and not very effective) and the biggest problem with most other lip balms is they just sit on the lips. This one stays on all day but penetrates the lips throughout it leaving it soft and moisturised. No fragrance or noticeable taste. If you want a lip balm that actually does the job, buy it! Also about the price… 12$ in canada for a lip balm is pricey but at the same time its the only lip balm ive finished completely. The tube is hygenic so it doesnt get gross at the end and i really cant rave more abt it. During the christmas season they have 2 for 1 deals on it so yeah 🙂

This is the lip balm that does its job. I may pick up trendier lip balms that come in prettier packages (I’m looking at you, Rosebud and Dior), but this is the balm I always come back to when my lips genuinely need healing.
In every way, Bariederm is the quintessential French pharmacie product: utilitarian blue-and-white plastic tube with a very sanitary dispenser. Very little fragrance and no pretensions at prettiness or the “organic / environmentally-friendly” angle that’s so trendy these days… in fact, unapologetically chemical. Rather pricey, admittedly, (about 8~10 USD for a tube where I live) but considering a tube lasts me anywhere from 6 to 9 months (depending on whether that term includes the winter months) to even a year, AND I’m compelled to use it up to the last drop, I think it’s a good bargain.
But enough dithering, onto the performance, which I think is the most important aspect of a lip balm and Bariederm’s strongest feature. Squalane is very high up on the ingredients list, while the base seems to be mineral oil: now there are plenty of products with that kind of composition, but this seems to perform differently to any other lip balm I’ve seen: it’s soft like Vaseline, but nowhere nearly as sticky, and isn’t slippery with silicones either. It stays soft in winter cold, but doesn’t melt when it gets hot. It layers very well under lipstick, making even the toughest mattes glide on with ease. The texture is hard to explain, but what it does is coat your lips and cushion them. Then, as time goes by, it soaks in, and seems to heal your lips from deep within.
I’ve found that a lot of lipbalms (Burt’s Bees, ahem) leave behind this hard waxy residue that in itself tugs on and causes friction on the lips just as a matte lipstick would. Bariederm has none of that. Once Bariederm is fully absorbed, tough cracked lips start to peel, and what’s left behind is perfectly smooth, well-conditioned skin.
A product that has no flaws as far as I can tell, and which delivers on the most crucial aspect. I will buy this forever, barring any change in formulation.

This is a really nice, basic, soothing lip balm. It comes packaged in a 15ml squeeze tube with a slanted applicator and retails for around $10. The balm feels very comforting on the lips and provides a lovely protective barrier. I prefer the feel of petroleum based lip balms to beeswax, i just find it smoother and less greasy. I’m a lip balm addict and apply this stuff a couple times a day and it still lasts me 4-6months per tube, so its really good value for money + its hypo-allergenic and has no fragrance. Its still not as good as Jack Black (which is my HG) but its a good back-up.

Wow, even with a store discount, this is the most expensive lip balm I have purchased, though technically it is a “lip treatment,” so I feel a little better. Watson’s was having a promotion, so I got two 15ml (0.5 fl.oz.) tubes for around USD 20, which makes it more than 50% cheaper than Amazon’s listed price. The price is firmly in Malin + Goetz territory, but not as outrageous as Fresh. So, how well does this balm work? Really can’t say I’m impressed. Compared to The Body Shop’s lip balm, which seems to melt into your lips and preserves nothing, this feels waxier and slightly more lasting. But in all honesty I prefer Watson’s own brand of $3 lip balms which I picked up at the same time as this. Guess I’ll be trading away my unused second tube.
