I was looking for a dark blue to put on bleached hair. Everyone knows if you don’t lighten your hair, the color will not show. This came out more of true blue. It is semi-permanent and will fade but remain in your hair. You have to bleach it to get it back out, so it’s a commitment. Ensure it’s the shade you want.

This blue is terrible for people who don’t have platinum blonde/bleached hair. I applied it to my hair, which was bleached to a light yellow. Within 2 weeks it faded into a dark emerald/turquoise color. Within 4 weeks, I was looking at swampy yellow-green-ashy hair.
The green undertones (resulting from the blue mixing with bleached hair) simply won’t fade with further bleaching. It’s a truly frightening color- made me look like a witch.
Fortunately, I switched over to Special Effects Dark Blue – which fades to a lovely violet even on my yellow-ish bleached hair. I love Manic Panic, but I would not recommend After Midnight Blue unless you’re looking for After Faded Swamp.

My favourite Manic Panic hair colour.
My dark, brown hair was bleached to a light blonde before application. Application was a little messy and takes a bit longer than standard hair dyes. Avoid getting the dye on your tiles, fabrics, nails and face as it will stain. Hair came out a very vibrant, peacock colour but it sadly began to fade within 2-3 days (I shower and shampoo daily due to oily hair). It faded into a electric blue to aqua to an eventual sewage colour. By the end of the month my hair would look pretty bad due to the fading. I personally believe that the colour was worth it though I’m sure that many people would disagree with me (or agree).
This hair dye will also work on unbleached hair but it’ll come out way faster and unless you are naturally blonde you’ll end up with blue-black hair.
Recommended if you want REALLY vibrant blue, vegan product or a product tested on celebrities (and not animals :3)
NOT recommended if you want long lasting colour, a stainless face or towel and a trouble-free application.
If I bleach my hair again I’ll be dying with Manic Panic again for sure.

I’d been bleaching my hair since I was 11-not to mention perming it and being a year round swimmer since I was 6-so by the time I was 19 my hair was just dead. I decided to just give my hair a break and stick with one color that I would have to seriously damage my hair if I wanted to change, so I chose black. Well the first time I colored it black, it wasn’t black enough for me-I wanted jet blue black. Now, from being a faithful customer of Manic Panic for a loooong time, I knew it’d be much better for my hair if I chose to put one of their conditioning colors over my hair as opposed to using something with peroxide. I chose Aftermidnight Blue because a friend of mine had it on her white blond hair, and I always thought it was such a nice, deep color. So, I applied it over my kinda black hair, and an hour later my hair was the most beautiful midnight sky black ever. In the sun you could really see the blue tones. It’s like a toner, only for dark hair!

I bleached my hair as light as I could (I’ve been bleaching for a decade, I have to be careful). As a result, I was left with a lot of yellow, and I worried that it would mix with the blue and turn green.
But, it did not. Granted, I have a few different shades of blue throughout my hair, but they’re all gorgeous shades of blue.
It does start to fade immediately. My roots, which were virgin, bleached to nearly white, and the dye at my roots faded right away. It didn’t turn green, though, it turned turquoise, and is still very much in the blue range.
The part that is still dark is gorgeous. It’s really the most beautiful blue I’ve used on my hair – it is sapphire blue. I’ve heard people compare the color immediately after dying to when it’s faded to a peacock feather. That’s a very accurate description of my roots.
I used the classic cream formula, and I think I’m going to try the Amplified formula next, to see if it fades more slowly.

It’s been years since I used this, but I still wanted to post this review just in case it might prevent someone from making the same mistake I did back when I used it…
This isn’t a bad product, but it fades ultra fast. I believe it fading even faster than normal has to do with the blue itself because blue/black permanent hair dyes seem to fade ultra fast as well.
If you want your hair to be super blue, do NOT use this on bleached hair without using a toner to make your hair ultra white first, otherwise it might turn dookie green. Seriously. I say this suspecting it’s probably a lot like the vampire red manic panic in that sense. Back when I used this I had been regularly using Sun-In on my hair for many months beforehand which had gradually turned my medium mousy brown hair to a medium blonde color. When I used this my hair almost immediately faded to a PERMANENT DOOKIE GREEN color and I mean PERMANENT. It was ugly as could be and NO SALON wanted to take me when I called to make an appointment. I was turned away by so many of them, major chains. My savior was a really nice “mom and pop” salon where an awesome stylist/owner told me he’d help me and totally fixed it for me (which turned out to be a MAJOR pain in the ass for him). He was ultra nice and didn’t charge me an arm and a leg like any other place definitely would have, but he did tell me afterward to NEVER do it again because he WAS NOT going to help me if there was a ‘next time’ with me using Manic Panic over Sun-In. I never did it again, but that is all something to keep in mind. I hope by reading this you learn from my mistakes and save yourself some trouble by getting it right the first time. 😉

This is a really great haircolor. I only use the amplified formula because it lasts longer. It is semi permanent so it does fade over time but I dye my hair about every month and a half to two months and it’s alright.

This is my daughters fav color from MP. Ive used it but blue just really isnt my color. We did a cool look for 4th of July one year using this & Vampire Red. It fades pretty quickly but that doesn’t matter to me since i change my hair color pretty often. Ive used this on bleached hair & on natural/unbleached dark blonde hair. It came out great either way. But for some reason it wouldnt take to my sons virgin hair, then again i havent found a veg dye that does.

I love funky, unnatural hair colours, which is why I started dying sections of my hair (pink bangs, lime green ends, blue underneath) but eventually I wanted to do something drastic. Also, I don`t like to damage my hair, and avoid bleaching it whenever possible. I had a basically full tub of the regular cream version of this lying around, so I decided I`d just do my whole head.
At the time I already had a little bit of this colour underneath, but the rest of my hair was a dirty blonde/ light brown. I shampooed my hair and then gently dried it without putting any conditioner in. Then, I grabbed my gloves and started painting the colour on. My hair was an inch or two past shoulder length and it used up the whole tub. Then, I put a bag on my hair and went to sleep. About 8 hours later, I woke up (feeling pretty grungy) and went to the shower. I started with not too hot water and slowly rinsed my hair. My shower floor was covered in blue, as well as my neck, back, and hands. SO much runs out the first few times. I didn’t even shampoo, just put colour-sealing conditioner and rinsed with cold water, then went about my day, shocking all my friends.
Since I didn’t bleach my hair first, it was fairly dark, and looked almost black in some darker indoor light, but wow was it ever vibrant in the sun. It started fading after maybe 3 weeks, but not too much. Just a bit less vibrant. Then after maybe 6 weeks, it had more of a green tint. About four months after the blue, I used Manic Panic again to dye it all purple. Maybe because there was still blue dye on my hair – the purple faded quicker than the blue and my hair was now green again. I dyed it yet another time in March and though the purple was very vibrant at first, it faded quickly too, leaving me with blue underneath, green/grey/blue everywhere else, a little purple in the front, and light brown roots.
Now was time to dye back to natural. My hair is pretty long by now, so I used two boxes of that Perfect10 dye in a warm darker brown than my natural colour, and darker than the colour it currently was.
After using that, some of my hair further down still has a green tint to it! I take good care of my hair and am not willing to bleach it, so I’m going to play around with a little red Manic Panic to counteract the green, and then wait until it grows out.
Bottom line, Manic Panic gives very good vibrant results and is a vegetable dye so no damage to your hair! Unless your hair is already light though, you’ll have to damage it by bleaching so the dye will show up. There is a good range of colours but you must take care of how you treat your hair, and re-do it occasionally if you want to keep the colour. If I were still doing unnatural, I would definitely buy this again, I especially love the Amplified box kits that come with the tint brush, gloves, and cap.
