Ingredients: The top notes are French jasmine, black truffle, ylang-ylang, black currant and effervescent citrus. In the floral-spicy heart, dwells the Tom Ford’s black orchid, imaginary more than real, and the base combines woodsy notes (patchouli and sandalwood), dark chocolate, incense, amber, vetiver, vanilla and balsam.

Tom Ford can do no wrong in my world! I purchased both Black Orchid & the slightly more floral Velvet Orchid during fragrance week and I cannot stop wearing them. Black Orchid is very top heavy and earthy. It reminds me of a lush tropical garden somewhere exotic. It’s not a fragrance for every woman, as some may find it a bit overpowering. But I think it wears like a dream with my natural body chemistry. I really really want to give this scent 5 stars but I’m taking off a star because of the lack of longevity. I applied this fragrance at 7:55AM before I left for work, and by 10:00am I couldn’t smell a thing. Really a disappointment because I love the scent so much. I now have to contend with carrying it around so I can re-apply. Luckily it’s a sleek bottle so it fits easily in my purse. Overall I still love it, I just wish it lasted longer.

Being an Angel Thierry Miglers lover, I was looking for an Angels alter ego.
Black Orchid has nothing similar to Angel when you smell it, but has a similar personality. An also hard no woman-no man scent, a taste of rainy woods in winter. Spray twice and smells all day. Gives me the feeling of wet tree, grass, mushrooms and oak whit a deep mysterious underground from the center of Earth.
Dont try it if you like flower scents. Its too hard, too eerie, and you must have a certain personality to support this elf scent.
Men usualy dont aprove it, finding it alien. Well as I noticed there is no man who rides a big motorcycle, who dives meters under water, and all risk taking males who dont fell in love when they smell it on a female neck. Thats experience!
I think this Vanilla Orange-like smell is okay. Do not take one cap or one bottle. Instead use a good blend that consists of one blend and one dose. Now my whole house needs a lady version.

Isn’t it crazy how taste and perspective change over time? My friend gave me a vial sample back in 2014. I wore it, and absolutely hated it! I thought it was screechy, jagged and gross. I couldn’t believe people would want to smell like that. I threw it out. Then just yesterday I got a sample from Sephora. I tried it again, and holy cow! It smells beautiful. Since 2014 I’ve started to collect many old-school, dark oriental spicy scents. I really dig that genre. So my nose has gotten accustomed to dense, heavy notes. So Black Orchid is definitely on its way into my collection. The opening notes are quite spicy, then it warms up into a dark floral mixed with vanilla, amber and woods. It’s hard to distinguish notes, as it’s so well-blended. The longevity is crazy, it lasts forever! I just can’t believe how much of a 180 my nose has done! Looking forward to own a full bottle! Now I’ve learned if I don’t instantly gravitate towards a perfume, or even if I hate it, try it again in four years.

This EDP is something I like to pull out once in a while, especially in the colder months. It is very distinctive, deep, dark and decadant. It is not for the timid. The opening is very powerful, almost masculine. IMO, the opening notes of orchid and oriental spices are somewhat incense-like which lasts for over an hour giving a feel to owning a room, before entering it. It settles down to a scent similar to rum-marinated fruit and licorice that is very, very sweet that gives it a gourmand-like type. It lingers for a long, long time with the musk and wood base definitely playing second fiddle to a comfortable chocolate and creamy vanilla. The projection and sillage of this perfume is very high and I wouldn’t suggest it as an everyday fragrance. For those dressy nights out with DH, BF or SO, this is perfect.

Dark seductive inviting intoxicating somewhat evil with a slight masculine edge to it i can imagine patrick bateman from american psycho wearing it it oozes class sex appeal and money the bottle is stunning on my dressing table this perfume i could imagine wont suit anyone it has a very unique melon / coconut /dark chocolate liquorice dark sweet spicy vibe on me it does not smell masculine on me at all it’s gorgeous and one of my favourite perfumes at the moment it’s my femme fatal perfume only for special occasions or for when i want to feel sexy i give this a generous five stars.

This is one of those perfumes where you only need one spritz or you will be suffocating yourself and everyone else around you. It dries down to pure woodsy notes on me which I don’t mind but I get an element of something powdery which actually turns me off of the scent. Not one of my favourites, though lasting power and sillage is immensely good.

Ok when I first starting wearing this over 2 years ago it was the bomb. Now everyone wears it and I can’t stand the smell. So upsetting.

Will always have a bottle of this around the house, great for night time as totally unisex

I am surprised by the low rating on this one. I think it smells so sexy, and on the two occasions that I have worn the sample I got, I received several compliments. I definitely plan to purchase a full sized bottle. Honestly, it reminds me so much (for anyone who may remember) of a scent BBW used to carry called Black Amethyst (which I’m sure was a knock off of this finer fragrance). Love it.

…… Oh my. This is hands down the most exotic, sexy, alluring scent I have ever worn or smelt. I am allergic to flower scents. I sneeze for a week! I honestly can’t say what I want to on here but DAMN GINA! Seriously ladies! It is awesome. AND it stays for 48 hours at least!!! ~~ Thank u Tom Ford!!!

This is definitely a strong perfume! I save it for date nights with my fiancé because it’s much too strong to wear to work. After it dries down a bit, it’s actually well-balanced between spice, woods, musk, and a bit of powder. I like spraying just a tiny bit on my wrist and then rubbing onto pulse points, and then start doing makeup/hair so it has a chance to fade. Overall I really like it and I feel it’s analagous to a bold lip color – very sexy and makes a statement when done right.

Now that BBW Black Amethyst has been discontinued and DKNY Black Cashmere has long been discontinued, Black Orchid is my go to spicy, incense fragrance. Of course, it’s outrageously expensive to buy in department stores, but between online perfume outlets with extra discount coupons and eBay, I’m able to get my dark incense fragrance fix.

Masculine and strong. I’d rather save $ and buy a Victoria’s Secret fragrance mist.

I first tried the edp of this years ago and loathed it for being too strong, too spicy, too sweet, just too too too much! Fast forward several years and I received a sample off the edt. Different animal altogether. Yes it is still a full bodied oriental but the edt is sooooo much more refined. I get lovely ylang ylang over nutmeg, sandalwood and musk with a delicate coconut vibe (no harsh suntan lotions here). I can smell it the next day on my scent devouring skin. Very elegant, mature and feminine. It also smells like the ingredients are top drawer. No chemical cucumber aquatic twangs that literally make me hurl. This is not for those who wear dilute generic body spray fragrances. It’s for a mature woman who knows who she is and doesn’t care if someone is offended by discreetly worn beautiful perfume. Born to be a classic like Shalimar, Mitsouko, No. 5, Bandit, Fracas …….you get my drift. Closest approximation would be if Angel, Bois des Iles and Cuir de Russia commingled and created an offspring. Pretty good lineage to my mind!

Okay, so let me start off by saying my personality as well as my body chemistry can really handle strong scents… I was doing some reading of reviews for certain perfumes and this one came up in my search, it intrigued me because it seemed like people either really loved this one or hated it, so that kind of created a spark in me to go try it. Next stop? Sephora! I went there and asked the fragrance sales lady for a sample, and when she came back with the bottle she had a very awkward sneer on her face, it was pretty obvious she didn’t care much for it, and frankly neither did I upon initially smelling it, but I got the sample, took it home and sprayed it there just incase I didn’t like it I could shower and wash it off. One spray, and after the dry down, which for me was about 20-30 minutes, I noticed I couldn’t stop sniffing my wrist! It was one of the most alluring, sexy, powerful, decidedly naughty scents I had ever had the pleasure of smelling on myself. To really test it, my bf had come over that night so I kept it on to see if he noticed it. When he hugged me he said whatever I had on he loves it!! He couldn’t stop touchin me! Bonus! I also sprayed it on him to boot and it smelled great on him as well, but it smelled like two separate scents, but equally as alluring. Basically, I have totally fallen in love with this scent and I’m planning to buy the full size. That little sample lasted me for quite a while because you literally only need one spray of this stuff, it’s that potent! If your the fruity, floral, sweet smelling type of gal, this one is not for you ladies.

Wow. I was taken aback when I first smelled it in the store aisle. But then, give it a few minutes and WOW again: I love it! I have heard many people say it smells like sweaty crotch or mushrooms, but I only smell a full enchanting not too sweet deep forest chocolate spice. And yes, I DO get compliments on it! Lasting power– 6-8 hours. Yes, it is spendy, but it is like a new pair of downhill skis — very exciting to put on! My other favorite scent is classic Chanel no 5. I consider Black Orchid to be its bad girl partner! They are now sitting happily together on my perfume shelf: Classic Queen and Black Goddess!

I urge those, who call it sex in a bottle ( and like it ) – try Boudoir by Vivienne Westwood or Kingdom by McQueen: ( with Kingdom you literally feel it’s having you against a wall: I am so speechless it’ll probably take me months to come up with a comprehensive review! ). Tom Ford’s Black Orchid is a late hour seduction game with a reverse sex roleplay. It’s a thick liquoir of dark berries, liquorice and the indestructable olfactory champion ylang-ylang ( that’s the most frequent cause of headaches in perfumes by the way, so test before buying, if you are prone to face-numbing migranes! ). Yes, it is an odd kid on the block among thousands patchouly-phobic florals out there, and it is the most obvious unisex /bisexual perfume I have ever smelled: the stage is totally feminine with all the heavy florals, but the vetiver stands there in the center and it is very much a boyish figure! – the sugar somehow just didn’t quite fuse with it here. I would call it the Marlene Dietrich of all perfumes: it is neither of the sexes, yet very attractive to both. My husband sniffed it at a local drugstore on my recomendation and said: “I wouldn’t mind wearing it myself!” Considering he is open to experiments and happened to play for “the other team” in his distant youth, this did not surprise me in the least. And since I occasionally find other women attractive, I guess it also explains why I like Black Orchid’s double nature. For me this is THE perfume to wear with a black tuxedo on a naked body with hair swept back in a sleek bun and red lipstik burning on the lips. Kim Basinger turning up in front of Rourke, wearing a suit with a fake moustache in 9 1/2 weeks is this scent’s ideal visual portrait. The only “wrong” thing with it is that it lacks dryness. This could have been a sensation, if it had had more “dry wine and powder” in it and less obvious modern “moisture”.

Oh my goodness. I tried to like it, I did, but this fragrance is simply trying too hard. I can see a very bold, very vampish woman using this and pulling it off, but let’s be real most of us aren’t her. It’s only wearable if you’re dressed to look congruent with what this fragrance throws.
Far too masculine for my taste. I powered through the opening notes (very spicy, heady floral). I sniffed for chocolate, and I’m one of those who can’t pick it up. I read another reviewer say she sniffed desperately for chocolate and smelled nothing but dog crap. Alas, me too, and soon I felt ill as it was the only thing I could smell. Total scrubber for me.
Please don’t blind buy, this is a very powerful fragrance that can only be pulled off by special people. This was the signature of Michael Jackson, so let that speak for itself as to what type of personality, presence, and IDGAF you need.

The smell was nice, but a little to musky and heavy for me.

Awful. Just awful. Very strong and overpowering. Gave me a horrible headache within minutes of putting this on. There was no change in the scent from the initial spray to the drydown. It smelled the same. There was no other notes here but strong stinky florals. This smells like a cheap drugstore fragrance. This is way over priced for the cheap scent it has. If you are sensitive to strong scents, stay far away from this one. If this didn’t have Tom Ford’s name on it, and it was a cheap drugstore perfume from Walgreen’s with the same exact scent, everyone would be bashing it. This smells very cheap, like a $1.00 scent at The Dollar Tree. This has got to be one of the strongest, worst smelling perfumes I’ve ever had the dishonor of smelling.
