This is one of the few perfumes I can tolerate that smell horrific for the first 15 minutes or so, yet developing into something completely different. It becomes a vanilla amber with an interesting little twist to the notes that reminds me of milk and caramel.
When I layered it with Britney spears fantasy intimate edition (accidentally) it seems a lot like my elder son’s natural scent (except he has a far more beautiful scent, but it’s the closest I can imagine a perfume getting).
I only bought it because of that little twist to the notes in Amarige, that comes close to how he smells. People always love perfumes that remind them of loved ones, so I don’t know whether I can give an objective review of this.
It is really strong and disgusting before the drydown so for that reason I gave it 4 stars. It actually is best the next day. I associate it with my aunts, so I guess it’s a hit with that generation. I really like it with the aforementioned Britney Spears Fantasy intimate layered on.
It’s over 110 dollars here and I don’t know that it’s quite worth that amount. No to repurchase. I really do love it after maybe 20 min but that horrible bitter rotten vanilla/caramel blast you have to put up with for so long, is not worth 110 dollars plus tax.

I have been wanting to try this because of the description and reviews, so I swapped with a friend who bought it several months ago and didn’t like it.
Before I start, a heads up that I never tried the original, and am not generally a fan of florals.
Everything I read about it described it as a bouquet of “all the flowers in the world”, sunny, cheerful to the point of being an “antidepressant scent”, and of course evocative of and suitable for weddings and happy brides as it supposedly smells like a happy marriage.
In no way did that prepare me for what came out of the sprayer. Bitter, bitter, bitter from start to finish. It’s like it’s impersonating a harsh, cynical, grim, harsh again, frustrated, rude, miserable rotten someone who thrives on conflict, complaining and ruining every moment with hatred and negativity. The bitterness is all I smell in this and it feels sad that what is probably nice flowers behind it can’t even peek through the bile. My husband, very tolerant of scents, recoiled upon entering the house. I thought maybe it was the tuberose or orange blossom, but it doesn’t smell burnt, rubbery, decaying or the like, it smells plain bitter, to a criminal degree.
I kept trying it, on clothes, clean pieces of cloth, cotton pads, paper, skin, and it’s unpleasantness was indiscriminate, it always just smelled this terrible. It doesn’t even have a saving grace dry down, it’s equally bad all the way.
I know scent is highly subjective, but trust me, this is objectively terrible and no way can this be what the people who like it are smelling. It truly doesn’t look like it has gone off, and is too recent a purchase for that, unless my friend kept it somewhere in the Sahara sun, under a magnifying glass, which I doubt. I went and tested it at the counter, and while I couldn’t bring myself to try it on my skin, the tester strip didn’t really smell better than the bottle I have at home. I have been lucky in that I haven’t yet had the experience of reformulations completely mutilating my favorite scents, but the only explanation I have for the disparity between what I’m smelling and what I’m supposed to be smelling is that the recent version must be far from the original scent.
I can’t keep trying this one in hopes it would grow on me, it’s getting donated. I feel bad donating something this bad but have a morsel of hope there’s someone with magical skin chemistry on whom it may be wearable.
If you are an amarige fan, please do not buy the current version without smelling it first, I truly believe it can’t possibly smell like what you’re used to.

My older sister used to wear this and I was obsessed with the smell, I would sneak into her room and just sniff the bottle ????
This just smells so amazing, like a beautiful and well taken care of woman.

I can’t get away from Amarige. It is unbelievable. I’ve had this bottle and am baffled by it each time I lift the cap. Things run through my mind and I’m not sure. I wonder why I find this so hard to wear, and I wonder how and where I could actually wear it

I have been gifted with this perfume several times over the years. As I have stated in previous reviews, floral perfumes and I don’t always get along, and this is one of those florals that I simply don’t get along with.
On me this smells sharp, screechy and cheap. The tuberose, mimosa and gardenia mix together to form a high pitched sweet/sour jumble that never dies down. The flowers are all I can ever smell in this fragrance, which is a pity, because I love some of the other notes, including plum, amber, musk and tonka. Alas, they are all drowned out by the flowers, and the flowers themselves remain high pitched for the life of the perfume.
On my perfume killing skin, this lasts a good 6 hours, becoming a skin scent after 4. Sillage is moderate as long as you don’t overspray. Luckily I have a friend who smells really good in this fragrance so I’ve always been able to find it a good home.

I remember this delicious fragrance, so delicate and sweet. I had the companion lotion as well. While perhaps not the most long-lasting fragrance, it certainly was feminine and reminds me of the spring.

This has been one my staple fragrances for years. I usually receive compliments when I wear this. It is a beautiful fragrance and as it fades, still smells amazing. It can be strong so do not over apply! The bottle is beautiful and looks fancy and expensive.

I almost didn’t buy this, because perfume expert Luca Turin gave it such a low score. I find Turin’s often wrong though. So when I encountered a tester bottle, I gave it a try. Wow, Amarige is gorgeous. It’s a sweet floral bursting with gardenia and tuberose. According to Susan Irvine’s book The Perfume Guide, it also includes the following notes:
Top Notes: Plum, Tangerine, Orange Flower, Violet, Rosewood
Middle Notes: Cassis, Gardenia, Ylang-Ylang, Jasmine, Tuberose, Orchid, Acacia Farnesiana, Dried Red Fruits
Base Notes: Amber, Musk, Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Cedar, Cashmerande
Amarige is very bold with a lot of silage. While I love it, it’s possible to over do it. One or two sprays is all you need. More than that and you’ll overwhelm people. That said, it’s very long lasting. I have the toilette, and it lasts all day on me. Anytime I want to feel very dynamic and feminine, I reach for Amarige. It really makes you feel like a woman. It’s not for people who only wear quiet perfumes though. Even in tiny amounts it’s a bold fragrance. For a barely there perfume, I suggest Cashmere Mist or Green Tea.
