Man, I really wanted to love this eyeliner because it was advertised to me as a “Holy grail for long-lasting eyeliner seekers!”. Well, two obstacles: I have very oily skin/lids, and I have monolid / small, hooded eyes. I’ve been searching for an adequate eyeliner since I’ve started wearing it in middle school.
For just a wing or flick without long strokes across the eyelid, this eyeliner should be fine. It has done me well before. On humid days, it tends to transfer to my lower lid as I blink (small-eye problems). I tried using this, like other stubborn eyeliners, atop an eyelid primed with eyeliner primer and a small layer of pressed powder to combat the oiliness, but as within hours, the eyeliner would transfer and smudge all across my eyelid unless I consciously and continuously wiped it off of my eyelids with one finger. Sometimes even the wing wouldn’t survive the day; sometimes it would smudge so much that it straight-up disappeared. This also made it a poor under-eye eyeliner.
Consistency-wise, this was my first foray into gel eyeliner. This formula, in particular, gets chunky super quickly and becomes more difficult to apply, even when I seal it shut between applications or when not in use. It is also not super pigmented and takes at least 2 layers for it to achieve a solid black look. Puzzlingly enough, this product is a challenge to remove at times, even with micellar water. It sticks like glue everytime I DON’T want it on my face (?)

My absolute favorite. I have gone through so many different liners over the years and this one is my every day go to. So easy to apply! It is decently waterproof. Lasts all day, with one exception which I will get to in a minute. Most importantly to me: forgiving application. It is so smooth going on but if I accidentally make a bump or uneven part in the line, I can smudge it in whatever direction I need to with a finger (as long as you do it right then, and it hasn’t dried or set yet) and the imperfection is gone. That fact alone has made my life so much easier since I first discovered this little gem.
Onto the exception: if I know I am going to be laughing a lot (If I am going out with friends or something. My eyes water quite a bit when I am laughing) I use the Tarteist clay paint in the tube. My wings have disappeared on me before with the clay pot liner. The Tarteist liner is hurricane proof. It will survive anything. I am not a cryer, but if you are you might want to go with that one. The catch to the Tarteist vs the clay pot: the Tarteist liner is much more unforgiving. There is no smudging to fix the line with that one.
The price might seem high for such a little container, but the clay pot liner lasts a very long time, even with everyday use. I like that the container is small and low profile. I apply with a small angled brush.

So disappointed in this product. I purposely use waterproof gel liners work on my waterline as I find those last the longest (Bobbi Brown long-wear gel eyeliner was my go-to until I decided to go cruelty free) but application of this product on my waterline is such a pain. It’s TOO gel-like, and applies almost sheerly if I run the eyeliner brush along my waterline. In order to get this product to stick to my waterline, I have to dab at/push the color on which is so annoying and time consuming. Not to mention whenever I try to go back over areas I’ve already covered to intensify the color, the brush/product just ends up removing itself. Very frustrating and such a waste of time.
In terms of longevity, there was eventual breakdown but it wasn’t too bad.
Not purchasing again, and in fact, will try out IT Cosmetics liner love anti-aging waterproof creme gel eyeliner next (have heard good things about this eyeliner and IT Cosmetics is completely cruelty free, unlike Tarte which is owned by Kose and Kose does participate in animal testing).

I seriously have a love/hate relationship with this eyeliner. I love how easily it applies and how workable the gel formula is… but, it creases like crazy even with my eye primer and applying a very minimal amount of the liner. The pigment is decent, it takes a couple coats to get a nice, solid black color. The major downfall is that it smudges super easily and doesn’t stay on all day whatsoever (even with a finishing spray). I bought it at Ulta for $23 since the employee highly recommended it. I’m really unsure as to whether or not I’ll buy it again.

I’ve had this for about 8 months now. I purchased this along with the double ended bamboo brush from tarte. This is a very nice liner and has great staying power. I don’t have issues with raccoon eyes or smudging. It did start to get a little dry so I had to mix it up and it is perfect again. I’ve used up about half of this. Very black pigment. The removal isn’t so bad either. I don’t have to scrub my eyelids off. I’m not sure if I would re purchase due to the fact that I want a to try a pen liner next but I would recommend.

The original clay pot was my holy grail eyeliner. I loved it so so much. By the time I ran out, they changed it to this pot. I bought it thinking it would be the same, just prettier packaging. I was wrong. It was really dry and clumpy and so hard to work with. It made me so sad because it’s not cheap and now I have to be on the search for the perfect eye liner again.

This must be the latest addition to Tarte eyeliner family. The gold cap is so luxurious to look at and looks nice on my dresser that the drab black caps.
I got the color in Black. The consistency is super creamy and unlike gel liners. But easy to glide on eyelids b’cos of the formula. Its dense black on me. Applying a heavy line looks like a smokey eye or something. I do love it!! Drawing a winged tip is also easy. But due to this, it takes some drying time and you need to wait this one out!! Or else, it sticks at your top crease. The liner lasts all day on me. It is water proof and you need eye makeup removers for this. Its kinda expensive but reading the box, this is some kind of amazonian clay with medicinal/herbal products with benefits…i dunno… i guess mostly for eco-conscious gals. Overall, a nice product and def recommend. This was used by Kylie Jen for the 18 b`day too, in the tutorial by her MUA.
