I really like this little shadow. It looks blah in the pan, but it works wonderfully as a crease shade. I feel like it almost oxidizes to a slightly more brown-than-grey hue on the skin, but that might also be my undertones changing the color’s appearance. I’ve purchased it as a single and have enjoyed it in Clinique’s holiday palette as well.
I increasingly enjoy clinique’s eyeshadow formula more as I age, especially the matte shadows they have. I have sensitive eyes to the point that I will not use pressed pigments that are all the rage now. Urban Decay always seems to irritate my eyes before the day is done, primer or no. Clinique feels “moisturizing” enough for a powder on my eyelid, and while it is sheer, it can be built up without irritation. No scented perfume to bother it (I don’t even go near Too Faced at this point.), and it has a pleasant softness to it, rather than chalkiness. Their matte shades are not dry-looking, nor powdery when applied, but maintain a soft natural application which I prefer.
I do have issue with the single clasp being flimsy and prone to breakage at the hinges. Were this a drugstore shadow, I would not care as much, but anything from a department store should hold up better than that if they are going to price at mid-range.
If I could do half marks, I would probably rank 4.5/5 lippies, as I don’t feel that it’s absolutely perfect, but it’s darn close.

I have fair, neutral skin and was recommended this as a crease color. It’s a beautiful medium cool taupey gray with purple undertones. I use it a lot with MAC Yogurt on the lid and it’s lovely that way!
I’d highly recommend this shade for people who want to start playing with crease shadows, but who don’t want to go overboard. I apply just a tiny amount with a fluffy blending brush and blend into the crease.

Clinique eyeshadows are beautiful and while they aren’t inexpensive, they are really nice quality. They aren’t powdery, chalky, or dry and apply so smoothly with good color payoff. They can look sheer and be built up to stronger color; and have never irritated my sensitive eyes.
This color, Portobello is a grayish taupe with cool lilac undertones. It’s the perfect crease color and I apply it above my crease as well to help my hooded eyelids “recede.” It is classified as matte but it has the slightest sheen to it, which I love on my crepey eyelids. Portobello is very cool toned.

Love this shade. I’ve worn it as a crease color for taupe and/or purple looks and also all over the lid and blended into the crease for an easy-peasy everyday look. Beautiful formula that isn’t powdery at all, but not too hard that it doesn’t blend well.

I love Portobello. For me, this is an everyday color that creates the illusion of deeper-set eyes (mine are quite shallow — think Gretchen Mol). I use the color all over my lid and blend it up above the crease. It’s got great color payoff, but it isn’t too much for daytime. Sometimes I pair it with Clinique French Roast along the lashline (top and bottom). It also goes beautifully with a navy liner or navy shadow at the lashline.
The warm gray works well with my blue-green eyes — especially paired with French Roast — and the formula goes on nicely. Almost as silky smooth as Bobbi Brown shadows. I tend to favor matte shadows because my eyes are extremely sensitive, and Clinique’s truly matte shadows never cause irritation for me.
I almost always wear this over a primer so that it doesn’t fade as quickly, so on me, the color lasts all day.
I like the mirrored compact and sponge applicator. Easier for travel than Bobbi Brown or Nars shadows that require a separate brush.

Really happy with this shadow. It is a gray/purple. It is more gray taupe most of time but definitely has lilac undertones. It is a soft matte. I really like matte shadows now that I’m in my thirties and don’t have perfect smooth skin anymore. I also own french roast which is a pretty brown taupe. Both these shades are medium to dark. Apply well with sponge applicator that come with shadow. I normally use sponge applicators with matte shades. Since they are more chalky than shimmer formulas. These are soft. I wear mine currently all over, pale pink highlight, navy liner topped with navy matte shadow to keep liner in place. Works well with black as well. The shade portobello would be good as an easy all over wash on lid for work with some BB cream, blush or bronzer and pink gloss or balm on lips. Definietly a more cool toned shadow.A bit dark, need highlight color with it. I love the nude rose as well but own others that are very similar. I definitely recommend clinique products. I have sensitive skin and never had issues with their stuff. They have been around long for a reason. This isn’t my favorite shade but it is nice quality. Maybe I shouldn’t take away stars for that, but I did. Dont pile on or these shadows then do crease and fade weird.
