This product definitely isn’t cleansing enough for my oily skin. I find that it leaves a film and after using it for a few weeks, I definitely suffered from more clogged pores and blackheads than usual.

This is a good, gentle face wash for normal, combination, or oily skin types. It come in a generously sized 13.5 ounce bottle for around $8 or $9. The consistency is a bit creamy, and it produces a light lather. Skin is left feeling pleasantly soft, and it removes makeup well. However, I will say dry-skinned people like myself would do better with a more hydrating cleanser, but all other skin types should be well pleased.

Like the previous reviewer, I’m surprised at those that say this is drying. I’ve been using this face wash for almost a year and I have never used a foaming face wash that’s left my face feeling clean AND soft before. It’s due to glycerin being high up on the ingredients label. I have combo/leaning dry skin, I use AHAs and retinoids, and this hasn’t dried out or irritated my skin yet. I find it so gentle that I use it to clean my makeup brushes and sponges. It leaves them feeling clean and soft, just like my face. Also lasts a long time, about 3 months with daily use. Definitely will repurchase and recommend.

Drying, burned my eyes, and caused a huge pimple on my chin. I also didn’t care for the fragrance. Good for someone with oily to combination skin who doesn’t get acne and isn’t concerned about aging.

**EDIT 04/2018: Ok, I still think this is a decent cleanser, so I’m not knocking any lippies or anything. But, I had to stop using it. For some reason, about 3 weeks ago, my skin freaked out. It became super dry and painful, and this definitely didn’t help. I don’t think it made it much worse, but I had to make a change because I reached a point where I couldn’t use it at all without feeling like my face was on fire. I wasn’t having a reaction to this product, it was all just my skin getting ridiculously dry for some unknown reason. I used this cleanser for a few months with no issues, but my skin has been getting drier over the last 2 years or so, and I keep having to make changes to my skincare routine to try to balance the dry, sensitive skin with being breakout prone. I’m kinda sad that I can’t use this one right now, but I’m hoping that I’ll be able to go back to it in the summer, so I’ll update on how that goes.
So, I think I would not recommend this to anyone with dry to very dry skin. If you have normal, combo, or oily skin, maybe it’ll be great. But if you find yourself needing to use moisturizing cleansers and heavier moisturizers in the daytime and at night to keep your skin feeling ok and not parched, I would skip this one just to be safe.**
I said I would repurchase this, but it really depends on if I find something I like better. For right now, though, this is my go-to cleanser.
I have sensitive skin that’s gotten drier as I’ve gotten older, and all my old favorite products were too harsh.I picked this up in a moment of desperation, expecting to need to buy something else ASAP, but it’s worked out very well so far.
Like others have said, I can definitely smell something in this product, but it’s a very mild scent that I barely notice. To me, it just smells very faintly of soap. So far it hasn’t irritated my skin (I’ve been using it for about 3 months, usually day and night, but sometimes I use a different one in the morning), it doesn’t burn my eyes, and it does a very good job of removing my makeup. I still use something else for my eye makeup, but this gets rid of the last traces of that if the makeup remover missed a little. I usually use this on my hands in the morning, but in the evening I generally use it with a konjac sponge (except around my eyes), which is my current favorite method of exfoliating while cleansing because it isn’t as rough on my skin as granular scrubs.
I think this is a pretty good very basic cleanser. My only complaint is that sometimes it makes my face feel drier after I use it, but it’s entirely possible that’s just because it’s been winter and my skin is already so dry it just becomes more noticeable right after cleansing.
I’ve been on the hunt for a new cleaner for when I finish up this bottle, but if I don’t find something soon, I’ll be getting another bottle of this because I know it works, it works well, and it doesn’t cause any irritation or breakouts.

Nice, reasonably priced cleanser. I do detect a slight fragrance to it, but nothing off putting. Used in summer and now going into the fall/winter, it still does not seem to fry my face out or cause irritation. Takes all the makeup off, too.

Edit 11/12: I’ve downgraded this to a three after switching to the new Micellar gel cleanser and loving it (see my review). I much prefer clear gel cleansers, and in all aspects it blows this one away.

As someone with sensitive, combination skin that is prone to flaking and redness as well as clogging, I’m always on the lookout for the next best cleanser. So many products cause problems, so it’s good to find one that doesn’t.
Despite bad reviews for Garnier products on this site and Beautypedia, I’ve always been a fan. Their micellar water, wipes, and Moisture Rescue are some of my staple items and holy grails. I don’t experience irritation or breakouts from them whastsoever. The lesson here is don’t listen to haters, listen to your skin. I think there are different kinds of skin sensitivity, so you really need to discover for yourself which ingredients upset your skin and which don’t, despite the popular commentary.
This cleanser is a refreshing change from other “gentle” cleansers on the market that leave a horrible residue, because though this is not a clear cleanser, it rinses clean. I use wipes or micellar water first to remove makeup, so I can’t speak to the makeup removal aspect. The texture is slightly creamy/gel-like and light, and it makes a light foam. There is a very slight scent, almost undetectable but lemony (which I like), and so barely-there that unless your skin is the type that must staunchly avoid all fragrances due to allergies, I doubt that it would bother you.
I’ve never had an issue with dryness from this cleanser either, unlike many others I’ve tried. So many cleansers are either too drying or else too thick/creamy and can cause breakouts, but not this one. I was a little wary of it being “sulfate-free” at first because sulfate-free shampoos dry out my hair something awful, but I don’t have dryness issues with this cleanser. And, no breakouts, residue, or clogging. All I get is calm, clean, normal skin.
I would have given this five stars except that I really don’t like the ugly, utilitarian packaging. I know that’s a shallow reason to deduct a star (it’s what’s inside that counts, right?!), but honestly I wish they hadn’t chosen to market this beautiful, high-end-worthy product in a plain medical-looking Cetaphil/Cerave type bottle. Sensitives want to feel like we’re pampering ourselves, too.

BURNS my eyes – I have ultra-dry, sensitive skin with rosacea so finding a cleanser has always been difficult. I used the CVS brand Hydrating Cleanser for years but it was recently discontinued. Beautypedia rates this cleanser 4 stars for sensitive skin. I do like that it removes all my makeup effectively but it doesn’t hydrate the way its advertised. My biggest issue though is this cleanser burns my eyes along with leaving my skin tight feeling. I had high hopes for this one but it falls short being a gentle cleanser. I will not repurchase and will have to use my back up the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser.

Definitely would not repurchase. Going to return it today. The only reason I gave 2 stars and not 1 is because it removed all makeup easily.
My issues with this cleanser:
1. Has fragrance in it when it claims to be fragrance-free. You can smell it when you apply it. Looked up the ingredients and yes- one is a fragrant ingredient, although not listed as “fragrance”. Real sneaky, Garnier. This company’s skincare products are terrible and they make bogus claims. GET IT TOGETHER!!
2. Burned and irritated my eyes
3. Made my skin red and irritated after washing off (this might be due to fragrance that it supposedly claims to not have)
4. Left a disgusting film on my skin yet also dried it out

This stuff is awesome! I have skin that is extremely prone to break out and I admittingly tend to wear too much foundation. This cleaner removes most of my face makeup (I follow with a toner regardless) and never causes me to break out. My skin is left feeling very clean, but not dry.
The packaging and price is great. You get a lot for your money and it comes in a pump which is super convenient. No cons whatsoever. I will definitely be repurchasing because I can safely say I have found my HG cleanser.
