This is a good makeup remover for acne prone skin. Whenever I try some other makeup removers that didn’t work out for me, I’ll come back to this makeup remover. Its one of the mildest makeup remover ever and does a good job on removing base makeup. Its not too drying or whatsoever and I will still follow up with a cleanser just to be safe.
Please do not expect this product to remove any sort of eyeliner or mascara. It simply won’t! From day one I’ve been told that this makeup remover will not be able to remove any heavy makeup hence I’m totally prepared for that. Its pretty hard to have a mild makeup remover that doesn’t break acne prone skin out and at the same time remove tough eye makeup right?

I have always been interested in Ettusais skincare, as it was one of the few Japanese brands that had a lot of oil free, sensitive and acne friendly products. They reformulated their line before I went to Japan in 2007, so I had less interest in their skincare and ended up not buying anything until now.
I needed something that could remove my zinc based sunscreen, as my regular cleanser left a film which led to break outs. Although I originally wanted to get Fancl’s Mild Cleansing Oil, it was priced way too high (at a boutique selling asian cosmetics, not in Japan or online), so I bought this instead without knowing anything about it’s performance.
The first day I used it I put it on my face and could smell alcohol (this contains ethanol, but its lower down the ingredients list) so I didn’t put it near my eyes. (I would advise the other reviewers not to remove their eye makeup with this)
I had mild sunburn despite all my sun precautions that day, but despite the alcohol content this didn’t cause any reaction at all, not even tingling.
I need two pumps for my whole face, and it removes sunscreen, foundation and powder easily. After I follow with my regular Neutrogena cleanser.
The other reviews say this is an oil, but it doesn’t look like other cleansing oils, it looks more like a liquidy gel.
Packaging wise, I love that although it is a pump, it comes with a little plastic stopper! I bought this while travelling, so it was so useful for me to just put the stopper on and know it wouldn’t leak.
I have used it for seven days now and I’m not sure if it is related, but my skin doesn’t even have one pimple or visible clog. It also feels smoother.
As for the price – I bought this outside Japan, so it was bound to be more expensive – it was $49 australian dollars, which i found reasonable at the time, and if it is a good product I am happy with it.
I will update on the long term effects – I hope it stays this good!
update 2011 – I have since bought 3 bottles of this. Last year the name changed and it seems to have less alcohol in this version. I use it for the sole purpose of removing my sunscreen, but this can also be used for makeup removal.

i love this make up remover/cleanser.
firstly, it doesnt cause any break outs on my face. my face is pretty sensitive and very acne-prone but this cleanser is so gentle. LOVE it, and have been using it for about 1 year.
secondly, it removes all traces of make up. i generally dont like using waterproof mascara so i have no problem with removing my eye make up with this as well.
thirdly, as said by another reviewer, it doesnt leave behind any oily film like i used to get with Fancl’s cleanser. it doesnt dry out my skin either 🙂 and the best thing is that when i use this to clean my mascara, it doesnt make my eyes sensitive and see white blots like other eye make up removers do at times.
a definite HG make up remover. will always be using it! 🙂

I really like this product and have gotten my second bottle of it.
It cleanses make up off well and although it is an oil it washes off really easily and does not leave a oily film on your face (unlike the Shu Uemura cleansing oil which I find very hard to wash off).
The only downside is that it doesn’t clean off waterproof mascara and I have to use a separate remover for that.

I am onto my second bottle of this makeup remover. This product cleanses very well, though I do use an eye-makeup remover spearately. I have tried removing my eye-makeup (non-waterproof mascara) and this product doesn’t cleanse well. What I like most about this remover is that it doesn’t cause any breakouts.

I am using whole range of this acne skincare.
This is a cleansing oil, but the texture is pretty much like gel. Cleansed well including eyemakeup and mascara. The only thing is it does hurt my eyes, so when i cleanse my eyes area, i have to close my eyes.
On the whole it is quite good, much better than Shu.
