I like this cleanser, but only for morning use. I don’t find that it removes oil based makeup very well, despite the claim it does on the packaging. It doesn’t compete with my all time favorite cleanser – Cerave Foaming Cleanser. I’m just a sucker for that foamy feel. Overall I’d purchase it again, but only to use during the AM.

I love how simple this cleanser is! It feels gentle and after washing my face does not feel thight at all, but also very clean and comfortable.
I know it contains sodium lauryl sulfate and that this is an harsh cleansing ingredient you should generally avoid. I’ve heard people say this is basically handsoup + fatty alcohols, but I don’t care because it just workes so great. The SLS is low on the ingredient list so maybe something in the low amount of it and the combination of ingredients together makes the product gentle and effective.
To be honest, I never had a very expensive cleanser to compare with, always drugstore brands (but I always did research on the ingredient list of a product before buying), so maybe I just don’t know better. But still, I think a cleanser has one job and that’s cleaning the skin, so why should it be expensive?

My husband is terrible at using skin care but has happily used this twice a day since he received it. He enjoys that it doesn’t have a fragrance & that it hydrates his skin nicely, especially after shaving.
I will definitely purchase it for him when it runs out, it’s a great price point.

I used this product now for a little over 2 years, and I have to say that I am pretty satisfied with it. It does a good job at removing makeup however I prefer a foaming cleanser. I haven’t tried it yet but I will do it soon. Because I love the Cerave foaming cleanser which is my favorite so far and I am happy to test the Cetaphil as well. If you are looking for a gentle cleanser that won’t harm your skin you could definitely check the video out. Not sponsored and I included a full demonstration on how it removes normal makeup.

This is a cleanser that took me time to fall in love. I like how it cleanses without causing the skin to feel tight. However, I find a non-foaming face wash less gratifying than a foaming one. Here’s a list of its pros and cons based on my experience:

I bought this after using a friend’s at her house. At first I thought it would take off makeup, but it doesn’t get everything off. I wear primer, ss, foundation, powder, blush, bronzer, eye shadow, liner mascara and lipstick/gloss every day. It is probably best used in the AM when you are at the sink brushing your teeth. It does not dry out my skin, is moisturizing, leaves no film, leaves skin nice and soft. Would I buy it again? No.

As the name suggests this is a gentle skin cleanser that’s easily comparable to the more expensive Cetephil version. I have super sensitive skin but this never irritated it, left it feeling dry and/or tight, or uncomfortable. I used this as my morning cleanser and it always left my skin feeling refreshed and well cleansed. I would definitely repurchase this and would recommend it to anyone looking for an uncomplicated cleanser that’s suitable for sensitive skin.

So this actually actually came out long before Aveeno launched their whole facial skincare line. I’m pretty sure this was their first foray into facial skincare to see how it would go. So this is basically the precursor of the Aveeno we know and love today. That being said, I wish this formula was still available today, because it’s REALLY good. Made for dry skin, soap-free, with no added fragrances or dyes, this cleanser is extremely gentle. My skin is fairly normal, but I sweat a lot in my job, so I have to wash it religiously. This never dried out my skin or made it feel tight. It would also eliminate every trace of makeup on my skin. And i Never broke out while using it. Because it’s a larger bottle than most skincare products (6 oz vs. the 3 or 4 most cleansers are) it lasted me quite a while. My only complaint is the formula is very thin, almost watery. But otherwise this ranks up there as one of my favorite cleansers of all time.

I’ve used this cleanser for several years and been very happy with it. I’very tried other more expensive brands but always come back to it. As a general rule, I use it in the am as the first step in my skin routine. In the evening, I use an oil free makeup remover on cotton pads very gently over my eyes and then stroked over my skin. I then wash off the whole thing with the cleanser.
In general, I’ve found that cleansers that remove waterproof mascara and the ultra long lasting makeups are too harsh or too oily to leave on the skin very long. This gets the makeup off and leaves the skin feeling soft and clean.
The price is great and I really like lotion dispensers.

This review is for Equate Gentle Skin Cleanser suitable for all skin types. I purchased this a few months ago and have been using it ever since. Prior to giving this a try I was using Cetaphil but decided to give Walmart’s store brand a try as it is about four dollars a bottle less expensive than Cetaphil.
According to the bottle the Equate brand is comparable to Cetaphil, so I decided that it wouldn’t hurt to give this a try and I am glad that I did as I actually like it better than Cetaphil. The Equate brand isn’t as thick as the Cetaphil so I like the consistency much better. Despite the fact that this is a store brand I think it works as well if not better than the name brand.
This product cleansed my skin quite well leaving no residue behind and my skin felt soft and clean. Generally what I do is wet my face then massage the cleanser onto my skin and when I am ready to rinse I use a washcloth to remove the cleanser. I also use the same process to remove my make up and it works quite well leaving no foundation residue behind.
There is a slight and very light floral scent. It is not overpowering nor is it very noticeable. As a matter of fact I find it a pleasant smell.
Since using this product I have noticed that my skin looks healthier and feels softer. I am not prone to breakouts and this product did not cause me to have any breakouts.
This comes in a 16 ounce pump bottle. I like the fact that the pump keeps you from contaminating the rest of the product because it never touches your hands. The pump is easy to use and the bottle stores well on the vanity sink.
Overall this is a good product and I will continue to use it. I purchased this at Walmart for around $6.75 for 16 ounces. The same size bottle of Cetaphil runs almost $11, so the Equate is quite a bargain. However, I will continue to use the Equate not so much because of the savings but because I like the product and it works well for me.
I will definitely repurchase this one.

I’ve never used the actual Cetaphil version of this product so I can’t compare the two, but I do use this product on a regular basis and am very pleased with it. This product seems to do very well with cleaning your skin from normal dirt and oils, and it can be used with or without water which makes it very convenient. My teenage son uses it because it’s so easy–he smears it all over his face and wipes it off using a wet wipe–bang, he’s done.
This product does not do ANYTHING to remove make-up, though…except if you use it on a Q-tip under your eyes for smudged mascara in the mornings if your make-up remover didn’t get it all off your lashes. Now that I “bake” my foundation and powder so it actually lasts all day (see my review on Coty Airspun Translucent Extra Coverage Loose Face Powder) I have a very difficult time getting my make-up off in the evenings so I’ve developed a new routine that seems to work very well. I smear extra virgin olive oil over my face and wipe it off with a wet wipe (removes make-up beautifully), then smear this product (or Equate Noxema–they seem to work equally well for me) to get off the oily residue and rinse it all off. That’s not enough to prevent acne for me, though, since I went off birth control pills a few months ago so now I follow up with a square gauze saturated with rubbing alcohol as a sort of toner. Follow that with a bit of Equate Aveeno that soaks in quickly and I’m good to go. Sounds like a lot of work and maybe it is, but it’s worth it to me to actually have make-up on my face all day. I haven’t experienced any drying with the rubbing alcohol but I have a very oily face (I can soak an oil-absorbing sheet by noon–by the way, paper toilet seat protectors make a GREAT alternative to the oil-absorbing sheets!)

I bought this because the store was out of the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser which I have used for years… A week after I started using the Equate brand, my face is extremely dry with deep, painful breakouts popping up. This is not normal, and the Equate Gentle Skin Cleanser is not a passable replacement for Cetaphil. I am very frustrated after using this product and praying that my skin heals and bounces back quickly.

My goodness…I was running out of the cerave cleanser I had at home so I went out looking for a new cleanser. I looked at the equate ingredients in comparison to the cetaphil ingredients I used to use that gave me no problems before. The equate has the same ingredients and was much cheaper so I tried it out. Within a week my forehead was clogged up the wazzoo. Blackheads galore! I wasn’t sure if it was this product or just the summer months killing my face as usual, but I’ve never had these tiny bumps all over my face before. It’s concerning. So I attribute it to this cleanser. Never going cheap again…

Pros: Inexpensive, gentle, doesn’t dry or sting my sensitive eyes or skin, and available in my small town. And now it has a pump top.
Cons: Use something else to remove makeup. I use, believe it or not, mineral sunscreen. Apply, let sit while I floss & brush, wipe off gently w/ damp baby washcloth with a little Equate Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover, then wash with Gentle Cleanser. Easy, gentle, and not as complicated or time-consuming as it sounds. Try it if you have sensitive skin.

It’s a Cetaphil daily cleanser knock-off and it saves me a couple bucks. I wouldn’t use it as a makeup remover though, bcuz that’s not what it is. I use it after I remove my makeup, after a shower or after I wake up just to clean my face gently. Leaves my face feeling fresh and soft. And I love that!

I’ve had to backpedal this past year in my quest for finding something to keep my skin calm and to heal up occasional acne. This alcohol and glycerin based cleanser is to be applied before washing with a Sartin soap, I switch between Sartin’s 1012 and Gentle Cleansing soap, and it keeps the redness in my skin down and any blemishes heal up quickly and my skin tone is consistently even. The ingredient list is really small, unless there are more and Sartin isn’t listing them as some companies do using the ‘trade secrets’ excuse, there are only four ingredients in this which is nice (water,SD Alcohol 40-B,Glycerin and fragrance). This does not dry my skin out at all which is great since my skin doesn’t usually react well to harsh alcohol and glycerin. The only drawback for this is the price tag (!) at $16 for two ounces to $66 for sixteen ounces which I’m not sure I want to shell out when the GWP bottles I’ve been using are done (still though I might if I can’t find anything better).
On a side note I found out about Sartin after delving into and reading up on the Erno Laszlo line. Sartin used to work for Laszlo and then went out on her own and created her own line ,and opened her own spa/studio, so those familiar with the Laszlo line will see similarities to products in the Sartin line. Laszlo relied on soap and alcohol based toners to cleanse the skin and Sartin does the same. This method goes against all I’ve been hearing and reading about for years but I’m finding that the older methods of cleansing and moisturizing are working really well for me. I guess what’s old is new again! Great product but insanely high price tag for something so basic. Again if I can’t find something that works as well with a lower pricetag I will definitely buy a full size bottle when the trial size ones I’ve been using are done. Great product and I’d give it a ten if I could!

I bought this cleanser when CVS was having a sale on their brand and I figured, it’s generic so it must be the same. My skin cannot tell the difference between this and the Cetaphil brand which is great because I was referred to this product by my dermatologist. This cleanser doesn’t add crazy chemicals which may irritate the skin yet it is very effective in leaving the skin squeaky clean. It does wonders removing makeup and other impurities. I love the pump on the cleanser because I’m accident prone and it’s mess free. I also love to use this in conjunction with a manual facial brush (think Clarisonic but with more elbow grease) for a true deep clean. I will continue repurchase this product unless CVS changes the formula or there’s a sale on the Cetaphil brand.

I think this product is wonderful!!
I love that it is gentle and is identical ingredients to Cetaphil.
It makes my skin super soft and glowy too! I use it morning and night.
I don’t wear much makeup, so I don’t have top worry about it being too strong. But I know that some people who wear thicker or waterproof makeup would need something stronger than this to get it all off. But for your basic cleanser, I haven’t used anything else in a while but this.

It acutally is lockable. You just have to turn it the right way and check to see if it locks by pressing down. I've taken it on trips and was happy to find that it locked. That lock can become undone if you are not careful though.

The CVS I go to run out of cetaphil cleanser, so I purchased CVS brand gentle skin cleanser because I checked out the back, the ingredients are exactly the same. So this one is 8 bucks for 16oz while cetapphil is 12 for 16oz. I decided to give a try. Again, the cleansing effect is no where matching Clean and clear deep cleans. But I use it only to go with clarisonic, which cost a lot more cleanser. So the cheap one is good and goes a long way. I so far don’t see the different of this one with cetaphil. the bottle are pretty much the same. but CVS gives EXP date while cetaphil never says.
I kind like this one somehow. I’ll repurchase.

This product has the same ingredients as Cetaphil’s Gentle Skin Cleanser. Exactly the same ingredients. The container is designed to look almost exactly like Cetaphil’s. The one drawback to the packaging is that you can’t lock the pump on it like you can Cetaphil’s. Like the Cetaphil product, it isn’t a makeup remover. It’s just a non-foaming basic skin cleanser. It works well for me.

This has become my non-foaming cleanser of choice. I`ve started on sensitizing my skin to retinoids by first doing a year+ of Adapalene/Differin, then switching to Tretinoin. My skin has adapted well, but it is definitly drier and needs a lot more TLC. At first I tried the CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser, also a non-foaming face wash that claims not to disturb your skin barrier. Well, it`s ironic because for me it had the complete opposite effect: it felt like I was pouring sulfuric acid on my skin every time I used it. I don`t know what is in that thing, but my skin is pretty sturdy and has never reacted like that to anything, including much harsher salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide cleansers. In fact, even though CeraVe claimed this was a non-foaming cleanser, I could clearly see suds from this when I rinsed my face. I use it only on my chest now, but even there it feels burning, like I am applying a mentholated product. The Cetaphil cleanser is HG for me: it is truly non-foaming, gentle and it cleanses really well without dryness or irritation. As someone who wears sunblock and make-up, this is strictly a second step cleanser for me: first I use an oil to break up the makeup and sunscreen, rinse, then come in with the Cetaphil for a deeper clean. It is perfect and I am glad to have finally found a great, non-irritating second step non-foaming cleanser. Will always repurchase.

My 46-year old skin is transforming from being sensitive combination with a very oily T-zone (and somewhat dry cheeks) to turning more and more dry. It was with a heavy heart I realized I had stop using my beloved Clinique facial soap 2 (mild), which I have been using since I was a teenager, but it is becoming too drying now. So I decided on trying Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser because I really want as few ingredients as possible in my skincare routine in order not to irritate my sensitive skin. I did not like it. Yes, it is mild. Yes, I had problems with taking off foundation and sunscreen with it. And no, it did nothing for my dry skin. On the bottle, it says “softens as it cleans”, and although that is correct, it does not hydrate. Instead, the surface of my skin was soft, but after a couple of days became even dryer than before. Very dry. Like parchment. So dry to the point that I actually had to use Eucerin Aquaporin soothing skin balm as facial night cream.
So no, I do not recommend this. At least if you are looking for hydrating cleansers.

I bought a 125ml bottle of this cleanser to try out. I had seen many great reviews so I had high hopes. When I tried the cleanser for a couple of months my skin progressively got worse. Little bumps on my forehead started forming and my skin looked dry and worn out. There were many dry and irritated patches that just would not go away. At first I thought my moisturiser was the problem but I looked into the Cetaphil cleanser ingredients and there was sodium lauryl sulfate listed, which is an irritant that can strip you face of its natural oils. Once I stopped using it for a couple of weeks my skin gradually improved. Definitely not gentle or for sensitive skin.

Okay – this does NOT take off makeup so I only use it in the AM. It’s a good gentle face wash that does not leave your skin dry or tight. I’m not a huge fan of the bottle because it’s a little hard to control how much comes out and you really don’t need much. It’s a good quality product for cleansing but again, does not take off makeup.

I have used this or the name brand Cetaphil for years and years on the recommendation of my dermatologist. I have gone through countless bottles of this cleanser and I will use it forever. I don’t see much difference in this cleanser and the name brand Cetaphil so I cheap out and usually buy this at Wal Mart. It’s so popular it’s usually sold out so if I see it I grab several bottles.
This cleanser is gentle and non foaming. This will NOT leave your skin “squeaky clean” which is a good thing. That “squeaky clean” feeling means that your skin has been stripped of essential oils.
I notice that some people complain that this cleanser does not remove makeup. My derm. swears that is DOES remove makeup but this is what I do: I take a cotton ball and gently swipe some eye makeup remover over my face, then wash with this product. If I am wearing a long wearing makeup like Color Stay, the eye makeup remover will get rid of it.
I have strayed from Cetaphil or its Equate counterpart from time to time, but I always come back. What’s not to love anyway? It’s cheap, it’s gentle and it does the job. If my own derm uses this to clean her skin, it’s good enough for me!

I would never usually use this type of cleanser but after having a bout of dry skin, I decided to give this cleanser a try because it is gentle and moisturizing…and sooo inexpensive. This cleanser does not do a good job of removing make-up so I used it only in the morning for about 4 days. At this point I had no complaints. Since my skin was still sooo dry, I deceided to stop wearing make-up and use this cleanser both morning and night….well, three days later my skin was still dry BUT now my face had broken out all over in hundreds of tiny red bumps that looked like a rash with many very tiny pustules. I have stuggled with cystic acne for years but have never experienced this type of problem with my face or have ever had a reaction like this to any product, not even with harsh acne products. I am sure this product will work for some especially since it is the same formuala as Cetaphil which is very reputable and gets great reviews but, unfortunately for me this was by far the worst cleanser I have ever used on my face.
