I wen to the spa, filled out a clinical form, and explained to the aesthetician I have very sensitive skin and cannot use harsh products, she stated the Obagi line is one of their sensitive lines. I was ok with it because she assured me it wouldn’t break me out. We used the Obagi gentle cleanser, I thought it was great, I even brought home a sample, and went back to purchase the full bottle. After using for 3 weeks I noticed my skin was drying out and I started getting very bad irritation bumps on my cheeks. I immediately stopped using this product and noticed a difference with my regular cleanser Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash (not irritating). I do not recommend using this product if you have sensitive skin, the ingredients are full of parabens, which are very irritating to sensitive skin. I hope this helps anyone searching for a “gentle” cleanser.
awedBoars3
It’s a thick clear gel that doesn’t lather, but it removes even a very hard to remove foundation from the first go.
Unfortunately, it also irritates my sensitive eyes.
I bought it to try out Obagi brand before committing to the whole system and I’m definitely going to look up other products from the brand.

All I have to say is – hell yeah – have to have it

This contains harmful ingredients and irritated my skin.

I need this cleanser in my life. But pricey! About $40usd. Can be found on sale for few dollars off. Online purchasers could start at ebates and search for coupon codes at retailmenot dot com.
I’m not on the nu-derm system. But the individual steps I take for skin care is similar enough that I do need a gentle cleanser, as regular and so-called gentle soaps sting my skin. This product feels so calming I look forward to using morning and night. Doesn’t strip my oily skin into oil overproduction mode. Doesn’t leave me with soap residue.
Yes pricey but worth it.

I am beginning the Nu Derm routine. What impresses me regarding the cleanser is it removed my mascara also. It’s been a very long time that I’ve been searching just for great mascara remover. This does everything I need. Great find!

I prefer this cleanser over the Obagi Foaming Gel right now since I am doing the Retin A/Obagi Blender treatment. It is a little more soothing & less drying than the other cleanser within the NuDerm line. I have enough flaky going on with the treatment & needed something that would moisturize a bit more & this works perfectly. Again same that went for the Foaming Gel, this is non-irritating, non-smelly & no color so perfect in that way. Works surprisingly well on removing my eye makeup as well so that was a nice additional to a shower face cleanser!

Broke me out and I found it irritating to my super sensitive skin

EDIT August 11 2019: Edited my rating to a lower rating. I switched to Spectro Facial Cleanser for Blemish Prone Skin (Fragrance free) and used it for one week and I can honestly say that it’s much better at cleansing my skin properly. I notice that the Cliniderm cleanser didn’t remove dirt/oil etc from my skin that well, which is why I had some whiteheads/clogged pores sometimes. I wasn’t sure if it was caused by this cleanser, but now I can confirm it is. I would also feel something on my skin (waxy layer or something) whenever I washed it off… So I’m guessing it didn’t clean really well my face. So far the Spectro cleanser is far better at cleansing my skin and even helped with clearing up my skin (whiteheads, clogged pores from using Cliniderm cleanser). Plus it is not drying out my skin. The Cliniderm cleanser wasn’t drying out my skin too much, but slightly. I would say the Spectro cleanser win in that category, my skin felt comfortable and moisturized, no sensation of dryness, with Cliniderm there was some slight dryness. What is interesting is that I have better results with a cleanser that doesn’t foam compared to the Cliniderm cleanser that did foam slightly. I have always selected foaming cleansers because of my combination/acne-prone skin. I will keep using the Spectro cleanser. I will be testing the Spectro cleanser for a few months before writing a review on it.

I bought this cleanser when my moisture barrier was very damaged, it actually irritated my skin, made it more red/dry. So I gave it to my mom who had no problem with it. A few years later, my skin is healed and I decided to try it again because I was looking for a gentle, soap-free, fragrance-free cleanser and the one I was using had fragrance in it. The result? It’s perfect! No irritation, no rash, no breakout, no redness and no dryness even during the cold/low humidity winter here. It’s very gentle on my skin and it removes my sunscreen/skincare well and my skin did not feel “tight” after. I don’t wear makeup or waterproof sunscreen, so I can’t comment on how well it will remove them. IMO you would need to double cleanse because this cleanser is very gentle. It’s a liquid-gel that foams slightly. Because it’s very “liquid” you have to be careful when pouring it out or else it will come out a lot. Also the cap is hard to open sometimes… but it’s more packaging problem. Glad that I decided to give it a go again! (I have acne-prone (mild type)/sensitive/reactive/combination skin)
Ingredients: Aqua, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Glycerin, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Glycerin, Polysorbate 20, PEG-12, Dimethicone, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Sodium Isostearoyl Lactylate, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Hydroxide
pridefulClam3
It seemed okay the first few days and then I broke out in a rash on my cheeks. I also found it messy to use as a lot of product leaked into the cap and then poured out too fast. Disappointing product – won’t repurchase!

I’m glad I bought this on sale (50% off) because it dries my skin out like crazy. I thought that maybe it was the water from where I live, but I switched cleansers and within 2 days my skin feels back to normal. Not dry, tight, and itchy. Might just be me, but I wouldn’t recommend this. . Too bad I have a whole bottle to throw out!
troubledTuna5
Love this cleanser!
pacifiedCrackers2
Edit: this stuff made my breakouts 10x worse. The worst part? Took me 4 months to figure it out. At first I really liked this cleanser – had non comedogenic ingredients and took all my makeup off. But the more I used it the drier my face got. I thought my breakouts were from epiduo (purging stage or something), but it wasn’t until I read another review here that sounded exactly like my experience that I stopped. I switched to spectro Jel, based on the other review, and in a couple says my skin had dramatically calmed down. It also felt normal- not tight or dry. I still have breakouts but NOTHING like before. This stuff is not gentle- serious regrets here!
Original review:
godsend.
This helped heal my face from a terrible breakout/ product reaction.
It removed me makeup and it stopped my nose from being flakey. seriously no more dry skin with this baby.
I also sue the moisturizing lotion.
If you’re worried about acne or have sensitive/reactive and trying to find something gentle — try this- check the ingredients they are pretty damn good.
dejectedShads6
This cleanser may be good for some, but I have a problem with Glycerin. For some reason, when it is even the very last ingredient I get a terrible rash of hives around my eyes. The rest of my skin looked great, felt good, not tight or dry. I like that it is scent-free, colorant free, and dye free.
I would recommend this to most people, but not for people with sensitive, reactive skin like my own.
***update***
I tried this again a few months ago. The result was the same; rashy, itchy face and the hives around the eyes-which I now know is contact dermatitis.
scornfulPear7
This cleanser is very good at removing everything and leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean. I think it would be good for all skin types. It is fragrance free and non-irritating. It does have a strange smell that reminds me of plain yogurt. However, I’d rather have that than a fake perfume scent.
sincerePie0
I bought this hoping it would be a more hydrating alternative to Cetaphil however it was very ineffective for my dehydrated sensitive skin. It felt stripping and left a residue, it also clogged my pores up after only a few uses. The worst part though was the fragrance, ie. the orange oil which for my sensitive skin is not great idea, it flared my cheeks up and caused general irritation. I returned it.
murkySheep9
This is a very soothing morning or post makeup removal cleanser. It is ideal for people with sensitive skin. It is extremely gentle, and as such, will not remove waterproof or water resistant makeup/sunscreen very well. The trick is to apply it to your face and gently massage for 30 seconds or so before using water to wash off.
innocentWhiting6
I’d rather give it a 3.5 rating, but *shrugs*. So yes it’s a cleanser, it’s nice and creamy, smells like oranges (very yummy!) and lives up to the promise of “gentle”. Really gentle, no dryness, no irritations, it even leaves something like a layer of cream on skin, if you’re into that kind of thing. It just lacks serious cleansing powers, it struggles to get off sunscreen like Physical Fusion (same brand) and that one isn’t the most tenacious screenie to begin with. After a good sweat it kind of fails to get skin clean, there is like a film on skin, even more pronounced than usually. So for me, it kind of defies the purpose of washing face with a product, and I don’t subscribe to the school of thought which advocates just rinsing or gentle cleansing in the moring (not saying it’s wrong, it’s just not for me), so for me, it’s a useless product. Can’t really recommend it, since I don’t know the purpose of a cleanser that doesn’t actually get anything clean.
betrayedSardines2
I really like this. I have atopic eczema, with really dry and sensitive skin. I’ve never really used a cleanser regularly until I got this. Every other cleanser I’ve tried seems to make my face feel really tight and now I have tonnes of useless tubes of cleansers around.
This is perfectly gentle and it feels moisturising and soft after use and smells great. Only problem is that it’s expensive but it works so I’m not about to stop using it.
Skinceuticals Gentle Cleanser + Physiogel AI Lotion are probably the only two products I’ll ever need. Now, just to find a HG product for my scalp/hair too..
relievedSnipe5
Love this cleanser. I have sensitive and combination skin. I cannot use many over the counter moisturizers and rely on prescriptions from my dermatologist. My skin normally gets tight and dry after washing, and feel the need to moisturize immediately– not with this cleanser. It leaves my skin feeling moisturized. Love the creamy texture of it. This left a wow factor for me and love how it leaves my skin feeling.
cruelGatorade2
I am not usually a gentle cleanser user, however this one actually doesn’t leave that film on the skin. It’s hard to find a cleanser that cleans well without drying your skin out. I love the smell of oranges, and there is a slight natural undertone of them in this.
Maybe not what I would use to scrub a lot of make up off, and after the gym you may want to use more of a foaming cleanser….but day to day this is great.
This cleanser will also pH balance the skin.

***Update February 2015: I recently developed rosacea and can no longer use this cleanser as the orange oil in it irritates my skin so much. I also tried their purifying cleanser and it broke my entire face out into a huge red, scaly, bumpy rash. I’ve lost faith in this line for my skin type. ***
I have very dry, sensitive, reactive, blemish prone skin if the wrong product is used. I blame this on my overzealous use of strong glycolics in my 20s. I didn’t always have sensitive skin and it’s been a real feat trying to find products that don’t break me out or give me a rash. In my carefree days, I used Purpose cleanser and loved it. When my skin changed, that became too drying and irritating so I switched to Olay Sensitive cleanser which was ok but I still had irritation and breakouts. I moved on Ren sensitive skin line and that improved my skin a bit more but still was too drying. Then I tried the Estee Lauder Vertie’ sensitive skin line and was really liking it for a while but.,,, I got a facial and the woman swore by this so I made the switch and I’m glad I did…
It’s a lot creamier than the EL and you need a lot less product per wash. It does a decent job of removing makeup/foundation but I definitely need a washcloth and sometimes two washes to get it all off. My skin has improved even more since I’ve used this (less blackheads, more even skin tone, etc.). I do go through it rather quickly and it isn’t the cheapest or easiest to find cleanser out there (Blue Mercury carries it). I happen to like the very light smell, it’s a bit citrusy and fresh. After washing my face with this, it literally looks plumped, refreshed and soothed – not at all dry, tight or ruddy. The packaging is a bit annoying because the cleanser is so thick, the pump can’t get about 20% of the remaining product out so I have to remove the pump and fish the rest out.
All I use as a moisturizer after this is rosehip oil from whole foods and I exfoliate 1-2x/wk with white or brown sugar and my skin has looked the best it’s been in a very long time. So far, I’ve purchased this product about 4 times, each bottle lasts me a little over a month , washing only in the evenings.

I’m still, slowly getting accustomed to this cleanser-not because this is a bad cleanser (far from it). Rather, I’m erratic and fickle when it comes to sticking with a particular skin care regimen. Especially anything to do with rinsable cleansers. What I like about this cleanser are its calming, conditioning qualities, and effective, reliable rinsability. At 38, and a veteran of having tried many, different cleansers, in every imaginable formulation, I’m now feeling as if I need to do everything possible to give back to and to preserve my skin, for the better. Further, this cleanser easily and comfortably takes off everything, with the exception of mascara/eyeliner. True to its claims, it’s soothing and gentle. No offensive fragrance. Or, excessive sudsing. Pricey, for what it is, and since I also recently stocked up on an additional, generous, travel-sized bonus of this, I can’t see myself re-purchasing this in the future. Yet, I’d definitely still slate this as a positive re-buy. So, if you’re like me and want something a little more advanced and effective than some of the standard, drugstore finds (like Purpose, Cetaphil, etc), this is still a great, worthwhile indulgence and investment.

This is the best cleanser I have used. Normally cleansers make me tingle in an unpleasant way and burn after rinsing. This cleanser feels so cool, gentle, effective and lovely. I enjoy using it and my skin has been better since using it in conjunction with sunscreen every day.
obsessedOwl6
I am in the minority with this cleanser, but I did not like it. I use other Obagi products but I found this one much more harsh than the name let on. It seemed to cause irritation and break outs whenever I used it. I even tried stopping other products to discern whether this cleanser was truly the cause and there was just no other explanation.
However, I did purchase it off ebay so it is possible that the product was either fraudulent or expired. Either way I don’t think I will take a chance on it again though.

My holy grail cleanser! I have combination, acne prone, super sensitive skin, and loved this product from the moment I started using it. I have now been using it since they started making it (a few years ago), and now even my husband uses it. It cleanses well and you can skip the extra “toner” step after because it really is not required. It is a gel-like consistency (though runnier) and has no fragrance whatsoever. Would highly recommend it to those with similar skin types. Was not surprises to see it in one of the Canadian magazines as a 5-star product.

I started using this about 6 weeks ago after my dermatologist gave me samples of it because I had found that it removed makeup better than Spectro Jel. At first, I quite liked it. It removed my Revlon Colorstay (which is normally really hard to wash off) quite easily and you didn’t need a lot of product to get a good lather going. Also, there’s no irritants in it like sodium lauryl sulfate or fragrances so it didn’t irritate my sensitive skin. I used it for a couple weeks before I noticed a huge increase in breakouts and my skin was very rough and makeup didn’t apply nicely anymore. I normally have 1 or 2 visible blemishes at a time (maybe 3 or 4 during a really bad week), but it had gotten to the point where I had about a dozen or more. It was terrible. I tried not to jump to conclusions with the cleanser, but I thought I’d switch back for a short while just to try to see what was going on. I switched back to my Spectro Jel, and wouldn’t you know it… my face cleared up each day after switching back and no new bad breakouts! I’ve been using Spectro Jel since then and my skin is still acting fine. It’s smooth and pretty clear again. I have no idea why the cleanser was breaking me out. Perhaps it was just drying my skin out a bit too much and it was reacting in a strange way. That’s just a wild guess though. I really have no idea. Oh, and I should warn you of the smell of the Cliniderm Cleanser. I’m not usually picky at all about the medicinal smells of unscented products, but this stuff was smelly! It had a foul odour to it and was unpleasant to use for that reason. The squeeze tube is a pain in the butt too because it gets all gross when you’re always handling it with wet hands. I much prefer pump bottles. I won’t be buying it or using it again. It removed makeup well but that’s the only thing I liked about it and it’s not worth it if it’s going to break me out.
mereRaisins5
I bought this cleanser because my skin is very sensitive, oily, and acne prone. I wanted something that was simple and would remove my makeup every night. This removes the leftover makeup that I may have missed with my facial wipes and is very gentle on my skin. It does not strip my skin, and it leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated. I LOVE the smell of this cleanser, its very fruity and citrusy! I would definitely recommend this cleanser if you are looking for something simple that won’t aggravate your skin!
awedLeopard6
This cleanser has a great citrus scent and gets all of my make up off in one wash, even eye make up, with out burning my eyes or irritating my contacts. It is a great alternative for blemish prone skin and won’t dry out or over moisturize, Love this cleanser.
ecstaticOryx6
What a dissapointment… It even does not remove the slightest mineral powder. I have to use it again and again which means a total mess and waste.
