This product is a no-go for my dehydrated normal to dry sensitive skin.
– It doesn’t moisturize at all, it controls oils and dries my skin even deeper (hello talc);
– it feels like straight up silicone, I’m not against silicones completely, but this product has way too much. It’s the second main ingredient after the water. The cream spreads easily and coats the skin with a film;
– the color actually works perfectly for my NC25 skin, I don’t need to use any other product to cover up my face. As the day goes I can see where my ‘sunscreen’ is wearing off.
I don’t think it’s suitable for drier skins, and for people who don’t love silicones.

The Dr. Denese Wrinkle Defense Day Cream with SPF 30 is one of the more impressive sunscreens I’ve tried recently. First off, this Defense Day Cream comes in a variety of sizes so please be sure to purchase one of the sizes that uses the tube packaging instead of the jar. The Dr. Denese Wrinkle Defense Day Cream features a slight tint that blends in very easily and I could see how this tint would be very universal since it melts into skin quite easily and leaves skin with a matte finish. On casual days I simply top this with a little bit of powder and it’s all I wear. This also works well as a primer under foundation and does not pill at all.
I like that the Wrinkle Defense Day Cream is fragrance free but also contains some good antioxidants as well. The only very slight issue I have with this is that at the end of the day it is very stingy to remove. I’ve been using an oil based cleanser and then a toner afterward just to be sure I’ve removed every bit of makeup. My video review can be seen here: 8

This is my HG of all HG products! The perfect SPF! Matches my olive/tan skinstore perfectly. Hides pores like a primer and is matte!!! I tried to find a sunblock but NOTHING compares! Looooove Dr D!!!

Again, another Dr Denesse products that I think is too expensive – $75 for a four ounce tube. But if you are one of the sunscreen avoiders like me, this may be for you. Its really a tinted moisturizer and a good one for dry skin.
This replaced my Sage sunscreen which if I would sweat would sting my eyes. This does not.
Again, I can basically smear it one and blend with fingers in 20 seconds, and I am out the door for a walk.
So I have a feeling I am a lifer. I just wish it was cheaper.

I have tried this for almost three months and see no better results than I find with any of the lesser priced products I’ve used. I’ve tried Dr. Denese Skin Serum and 3 of her other products and they are terrible. The foundation burned my skin. I’m surprised people pay her sky-high prices! I won’t be buying any of the Dr. Denese line.

I have mixed feelings about this product.
I love it because:
i) it provides optimal sun (UVA/UVB) protection.
ii) the melanin tint used in the ingredients to offset the white cast caused by zinc oxide is really smart!
iii) it looks amazing on my skin. it has flattering matte finish. it evens out my skin tone. it feels very light and natural on skin and it doesn’t wear off.
iv) considerable amount of antioxidants make this product even worth consideration.
I don’t really like it because:
i) It contains Octinoxate as one of the sunscreen actives. I wish Dr Denese would have just used the mineral zinc oxide as the only sunscreen actives. There are occasions when this products seep into my eyes and it stings! I am positive that it is caused by the other sunscreen actives (Octinoxate). Zinc oxide alone is substantial in providing broad-spectrum UV protection (both UVA/UVB). Mineral based sunscreen is far more gentle and preferred because mineral based sunscreen doesn’t irritate sensitive skin, especially the eye area (which also must be protected from the sun). Dr Denese, if you are reading this, please consider reformulating!
ii) Also, it would have been better if Dr Denese would have chosen less controversial preservative ingredients such as phenoxyetanol, chlorphenesin, Dehydroacetic Acid, etc. Instead, she opt for parabens and imidazolidinyl urea.

***To clarify, this is for the Dr. Denese SPF 30 Defense Day Cream in a 4 oz tube.***
+++EDIT 1 month later+++ I love this product! I’ve used it almost every day and have had no adverse skin reactions to it. Keep in mind though, I use Origins Cleansing Oil to take this off every night. I’m completely satisfied with the color and I don’t find that it oxidizes. I love that I don’t have to apply a separate sunscreen because the drying time is wasted minutes to me. A weird thing: I apply quite a bit because I want the full sun protection. One time, I scratched my forehead after wearing this for 6-8 hours or so and the cream was in my nails. So it’s pretty thick and it never really absorbs because of the silicones. Also, it’s hard to wash it off my hands after applying it to my face and it stains my towels that I wipe my hand on (washes off though). It will also mark your light colored clothing if you are wearing it as you apply. Ok, all that sounds bad lol but I still love the DDC!
+Original post+ I’m in my first week of using this so it’s not an in-depth review that includes long term usage. I bought this per my friend’s recommendation because I looked at her skin and said “your skin looks so nice!”. She loves it and was down to the last drop of her 4 oz bottle so I just had to have it.
I read as many reviews as I could and I was concerned when many people wrote about how thick the product was and how difficult it was to spread. Now that I’ve been using it for a few days, I’m scratching my head because this is one of the smoothest face products I’ve ever used. With that being said, I suspect that it has more silicones than any other product I use but I’m not one to be overly concerned about silicones. Obviously a lot of people complain about the texture of the new tube formula but I just don’t see where they are coming from.
I can’t say that all of Dr. Denese’s claims are true but I like the intent: broad spectrum sun protection and anti-oxidants. I can attest for the matte finish which I love. It’s so smooth and silicone-y and I can feel it all day. My point being that it seems to last all day (even though you should reapply throughout the day).
I consider this to function as a tinted moisturizer because the tint in this sunscreen evens out my skintone and makes my skin look a lot better than with nothing on it. I’m still trying to decide if I’m 100% satisfied with the color matching. I have medium/light-medium yellow-toned skin and even I find the color to be very yellow. I’m still not sure if it’s too dark or if it’s orange or if it oxidizes throughout the day. I do know that my friend has a darker and more olive skin tone than me and this color looks great on her.
My favorite sunscreen is CHANEL Multi-Essential which is $50+ for 1 oz so this 4 oz package for $75 is reasonable to me. Dr. Denese’s DDC hasn’t replaced CHANEL as my favorite but I like it because it combines my sunscreen/tinted moisturizer step into one. Normally, I wouldn’t consider tinted moisturizer or foundation plus SPF to be sufficient sun protection but it seems to be stressed that this is a tinted sunscreen and not a tinted moisturizer with spf. *crossing fingers*

I don’t know if “Wrinkle Defense” is the same thing I have because my tube just says “Day Defense SPF30” which sounds like the same thing from reading the reviews. This product is unlike any other SPF that I’ve tried. I wouldn’t depend on it as a moisturizer with SPF because its more like a tinted sunscreen. I use the DD Hydroshield Serum and sometimes the DD Dream Cream and then I apply the Day Defense. It applies so smoothly, reminds me of a silicone based primer in the way it feels and how soft my skin is afterwards. It is tinted a beigey shade but its not overpowering and it doesn’t give tons and tons of coverage like a foundation would but it does give some light coverage. If you have good skin to begin with, you could get away with wearing this on its own without the use of a foundation. I have read a lot of reviews on QVC where women do this. It applies well, needs a little extra blending if you put on too thick of a layer but thats only around the eyebrows when I apply to much.
UPDATE: I like this product but it contains too much silicone and gave me a ton of little bumps that would not go away!! Unfortunately, I can’t use it anymore and I gave it to my mom only the same thing happened to her! I would still say it is a good product, just not a good product for me.
My foundation applies so well after I’ve used the DD Cream because of what I said about it mimicking a face primer. I would also use this on the back of the hands to cover some spots and protect them at the same time! I do believe I learned this little tip when Dr Denese was on QVC, someone said they do it like that on the hands. I don’t have spots but I love how it evens out my skin tone on my hands. I purchased this on Ebay from an authentic seller and was able to get it cheaper than it sells for on QVC. You have to be careful to do your research on the seller and make sure they are trusted beforehand! I now have 3 DD products and love every one of them! Thank you again for such a unique and un-dupeable product Dr. Denese!
UPDATE: product ended up clogging my pores like nobodies business. Lots of silicone, I should’ve known but wanted it to work so badly. If you have silicone issues, keep moving.. otherwise this is a great product just not for me 🙁

Would I buy this product again? Yes, yes, YES! This is a great multi-purpose tinted moisturizer/sunscreen/sheer foundation that is also the BEST primer under foundation that I’ve ever used. I am seriously impressed. My normally reactive skin loves this formula, and combined with the companion tinted eye cream, it’s all I need for a pretty and casual look. With a little brow pencil/linder and lip gloss I have a perfect “I look great and I don’t have to try to” look. 🙂 It also lasts through the heat, rain, and wind. I’m betting I can swim in it!

I love this product. It’s a tinted cream, that now comes in a tube.
I am very fair but this does blend well into my skin. At first it looks a tad orange but it takes maybe 5 minutes to settle down and it seems to adjust to my skintone. My skin is notorious for making foundations oxidise – just read my other reviews! – but this doesn’t do that at all.
I often use this – with concealer and powder- instead of any foundation. And I don’t have great skin. I have mature skin with some pores and redness. This doesn’t give much coverage but it does make my skin look fresh and natural.
The best by far though, is that it has a wonderfully mattifying effect on my t-zone. With all foundations I have to blot after a couple of hours and the make up is usually disappeared by about 6 hours. Not this! It stays on – is rather tenacious and needs an oil based cleanser to remove it fully – and it doesn’t get shiny at all. Its like the best primer I ever used, combined with great sunscreen, and a base.
If I want a more polished or made up look I wear this underneath my regular foundations. It does not seem to change their colour. But most of the time I just wear this with a light dusting of powder.
Love, love, love!
