I received this as a Sephora birthday gift thus the rating on the price tag is neutral. When a moisturizer does the opposite of the basic function it should do, it’s time to let it go. This product caused me no bad reactions, rashes, breakouts. But strangely, it gave me flakey skin. My face doesn’t feel tight and I don’t notice any other form of pros and cons besides the flakey skin issue.
Rating on the packaging is neutral because the sample size is not the same as the full size packaging.

Was unimpressed with this to begin with. I didn’t like the consistency, wasn’t overly moisturising and even told people not to buy it. I continued to use it so I didn’t waste it and oh my gosh my skin loves it now. My skin is plumper (softer wrinkles), more even, no longer oily.. just all around better. I ran out and my skin has taken a dive again! So I’d definitely consider that when trying a sample, because my skin took time to show results…

I’m happy I received this sample for my birthday. This is the second product from them that I tried and I liked it overall. Will I purchase the actual moisturizer? No. It costs 90$ I don’t think it’s logical to spend that much on a moisturizer you’ll be using once or twice every single day. I use it under makeup before primer and I loved that it kept my face moisturized just enough and didn’t disturb my makeup or skin in any way. I also used it on the nights I wear my face oil (once it dried a bit I applied this) and the two paired together very well. It didn’t dry my skin out, cause breakouts, leave it oily… and while it can be difficult for me to find the right combination of products that don’t break me out or irritate my skin (cleanser, oil/serum, moisturizer) I can’t justify spending 90$ on a moisturizer that just seems regular. I don’t think it’s fair for me to comment on the things it claims to do since I’ve only used it for 2 months, but users have claimed to notice a difference within 2 weeks and I haven’t. It’s just a moisturizer that goes on nicely, has no scent and seems to be good for people with sensitive skin… it’s just ridiculously over priced

This was my Sephora birthday gift pick. Very excited to finally try a Drunk Elephant product. So, it’s… just meh. While it feels nice going on, sinks in quickly, doesn’t have an overpowering aroma, it just doesn’t seem to do much. Glad to try it but not worth buying in my opinion.

This cream is really expensive for what it offers. I find it is a simple moisturizer, no better than a $20 moisturizer. I saw no difference in my skin whatsoever, and I don’t think it actually even moisturizes that well. When I think about my drunk elephant skincare routine, I find it did either nothing or my skin worsened (I was using this product along with their vitamin c serum). I have since began using a peptide serum from amazon (that contains copper peptides, other peptides including argirilene) along with honest beauty’s hydragel moisturizer and find my skin is doing much better for a fraction of the price (in terms of even skin tone and hydration). I also do a glycolic acid mask 1x a week along with a microneedle roller.

I rated Protini five lippies because I think it is a high quality product. At the same time, I said I would not buy it again because it is not a product for a person with my type of skin. I think many of disparate ratings are due to people using it when it is meant for their skin type. To be fair, Drunk Elephant states it can work for all skin types, so it is not users’ faults. The other poor ratings are due to allergic reactions/skin sensitivities.
Protini is a lighter moisturizer that works best for those with skin on the oilier side. Those that have dry or dehydrated skin will find Protini does not provide enough hydration on its own. In addition, it’s loaded with peptides. In my experience, peptide moisturizers tend to feel a bit on the dry side (some describe them as “mask-like”). I found Protini to be acceptable in terms of feel and hydration, but I only used it occasionally. I think if I used it all the time as my only moisturizer, my skin would have become dehydrated.
Another reviewer points out glycolic and lactic acid in the ingredients and posits that Protini is exfoliating. These ingredients are very far down on the ingredients list, meaning they are in minuscule amounts. I can’t say they wouldn’t affect those with sensitive skin, particularly if Protini was used morning and night, but I believe most people would not be affected by these acids.
Much ado has been made about the packaging. It is a jar, but the innovative push top design keeps the ingredients preserved, away from air and light. This keeps the precious antioxidants from breaking down.
The biggest con is the price. A customer is paying $68 (US) for only 1.69 oz of product.
I never factor price into my rating because everyone has a different idea of what’s expensive. Additionally, if nothing else works, one will be willing to pay a lot of money for skincare that does not irritate your face. Protini is a high quality product worth trying for those with skin on the oilier side; however, given the high price I would strongly urge people to try other products first.

Not many Drunk Elephant products have impressed me, but I really liked this moisturizer. I have combo-oily skin and this works for me all year round. It’s light enough that I could wear it in the summer, but also hydrating enough that I can wear it in the winter paired with my usual face oil. I don’t have a sensitivity to silicone, but the texture of this feels like a gel-cream that might have silicone, meaning it glides on easily and sinks into my face nicely. I’m impressed that it seems to balance my face without making me feel oily or dry. I have had several samples/mini samples of this and not sure I’d run out and buy the full size at full price, but I do really enjoy it.

I have dry skin and initially liked it more than Lala Retro cream from the brand.
Protini is a fragrance-free moisturizer. The packaging is very bulky, and I didn’t like how it works – you have to press on the sides to get the product from the hole in the middle. I much prefer self-sealing tubes.
I needed two full pumps for my face and neck. On my skin, it was taking about five minutes for the product to absorb. However, the cream is drying. Even Marula Oil on top didn’t help. I used Protini for a week and got dry patches on my nose and cheeks. Nothing else changed in my skincare or diet.

Didn’t do much for me. The cream is not as thick or moisturizing as i like my moisturizers to be.
Plastic packaging for mini. Not sure about the normal size.
Just not impressed with it. There wasnt anything horribly wrong with it, but considering how much it is normally, I’d expect something that at least works w skin issues.
