I liked this moisturizer overall and think it has a really nice finish. That being said, I did not find it as deeply hydrating or with any other properties I’d like to see in a night product. I did use this occasionally in the day time, and it looks BEAUTIFUL under makeup! I never had any issues with pilling which was great. This also does not leave much of a shine after application. While I think this is a better day moisturizer than night, I try to always wear an SPF moisturizer, which this doesn’t have. The lotion rubs in pretty clear, and disappears very quickly into the skin. There’s a slight scent to it, but it is hard for me to describe. It does not last, and it is only noticeable upon application. I would not repurchase due to not really meeting my needs for day or nighttime (I’m a minimalist wherever possible), however I think this is worth a try for a couple of groups: late teens/early 20’s with skin that is not dry AND those who may use a separate SPF during the day in addition to a moisturizer.

This moisturizer has a very nice texture. It’s thicker than a lotion, lighter than a cream, and more lush than a gel. What I like best, however, is that it absorbs completely and does not leave me looking greasy or feeling like I’ve got a coating on my skin.
That is the drawback of this product as well: if you have dry skin this will not be enough. But if you have normal, combination or even mildly oily skin, you should enjoy the texture and finish of this product. As it gets colder outside, this may not be enough for me, but it is, so far, very good and a welcome change from the PC products I’ve been using over the years that were either really heavy (Skin Recovery moisturizer) or contained retinol that did not always agree with my skin (the Resist products).
I have rosacea and deal with occasional breakouts and have not experienced any irritation from this formulation.

Paula’s Choice Skincare is a line of cosmetics that I have really grown to love. That said, I am a little confused by the release of the new Defense line from the brand. That being said, I can see if you are someone that is younger who doesn’t need an anti-aging regimen, or an acne routine, that some these products might be a good beginner routine for someone just looking for the basic products or very very mild exfoliants, moisturizers, and cleansers. The Paula’s Choice Defense Nightly Reconditioning Moisturizer is more of a gel textured moisturizer that provides light hydration. My skin it too dry to use this on its own so I simply just added this to my routine. This does contain many beneficial ingredients and I love that it is fragrance free. I tried using this in the morning but this just didn’t play well with my other makeup. I’m going to save this for the winter when my skin always needs just an extra boost of moisture. That said, unless I find it helpful during the long Minnesota winter, I probably wouldn’t purchase this again. My video review can be seen here: 8
