I’m not sure why this is rated so low… it’s the only thing that actually repairs my peeling nails. Used it twice in a week for two manis and my nails are back to showing no signs of any current or new peeling. Amazing product I think it must be my nails like silica. Haven’t found anything else that works as well as this yet. Will repurchase when I run out I’ve had it a year and it’s half done now. Totally worth it!

I love this product. Love. I have nails that bend easily and peel at the tips, and I wanted to find a product to strengthen them. I’ve been using Horse Power consistently for almost 4 years, and it is by far the most effective product I’ve ever used. You can use this product in 3 different ways: as a strengthening treatment, as a base coat, and as a top coat. I can’t speak towards using it as a top coat, but I use it as a treatment and a base coat.
As a treatment, the instructions are to apply to clean nails, and reapply once a day for a week. Remove at the end of the week, and begin the treatment cycle again. The bottle instructions say to repeat for four weeks and then rest. The treatment instructions have been removed from the new (unfortunately much smaller but still the same price) bottle, but they remain an option with the new formula. Personally I think four weeks in a row is too much because you shouldn’t wear color while you’re using Horse Power as a treatment. When I think my nails could use some help I usually do two weeks of treatment, two weeks off treatment, and then one more week of treatment.
At the end of a treatment cycle my nails do not bend. At all. The peeling tips are not *restored* but the new growth is strong enough that it won’t peel. I just trim off the old tips when they’re long enough, and I have strong, healthy nails. I also found that it’s important to strip it at the end of the week, as instructions recommend, because if you continue to build on the same layers the growth and the strength stagnate.
As a base coat, I have an important usage note. Do not keep it on too long; it will eventually weaken nails. I only use it as a base coat if I’m going to change colors within 3-4 days. Anything longer and my nails are thin and in danger of peeling. I don’t know why this is, but it always happens when I a̶m̶ ̶t̶o̶o̶ ̶l̶a̶z̶y̶ forget to change my color. If you’re using it for a short time, though, it’s an effective base coat. It’s quick drying and in my experience it really cuts down the dry time on color coats. I don’t see any shrinkage, and depending on the color formula it lasts a lot longer before chipping. It’s the only base that can extend the life of a Zoya for me, for example.
I did rate this 4 lippies instead of 5 because of the weakening, but if I’m proactive it doesn’t occur. I also dock a little because I’m annoyed that the new Horse Power is so much smaller! This is HG for me, and I wouldn’t manicure without it.

Nail fertilizer is a very mediocre product for the price and coming from Butter London. I love their nail polish, but their nail treatment doesn’t do anything at all. To me, it is no different than a clear coat. It wears down quickly and doesn’t strengthen my nails at all. Absolutely no difference in my nails. I consider my nails about average. Not super fragile, but not super strong. Occasionally breaks and snags on the sides though, having a desk job and from cleaning. No difference in my nails growing longer either.
Overall, this nail treatment is only good only if you want the clear look. I find the product by nail-aid collagen builder so much better and less expensive too, which I’ll review more separately.

I love Butter London nail polishes and thought this would be a good product. I have fairly “average” nails in that they’re not overly strong and thick, but they’re not paper thin and constantly breaking, either. I just wanted them to be a bit stronger and to grow faster, even though they naturally grow pretty fast on their own. (I’m impatient with some things!) I used this alone for five days per instructions – applying one layer each night – until I removed it to apply a new nail polish. At that point, I used it as a base coat. Several days later when I removed everything to change my polish again, I noticed that the white tip on my left pinky nail had spread down way past the normal line and into the pink part of the nail. Almost half my nail was the white “tip.” I thought it was strange but thought maybe I had bumped it or bent the nail back at some point and caused some damage. After about two weeks of using the Nail Fertilizer as a base coat, I noticed that the same thing was beginning to happen to my right pinky nail and also to my right middle finger nail. At that point I stopped using it right away and I’ve since returned it to Sephora. Nothing like that has ever happened to me and I’m certain it was caused by the product. It’s too early to tell whether that white part is growing out. I’m just hoping it’s nothing permanent.
On the plus side, it did make my nails a bit stronger in that short amount of time and I noticed that they grew a little faster, too. I think it’s probably a great product for those who can use it; unfortunately, I think it was just a bit too strong for my nails, or it contained something that just didn’t agree with them. I think this product is worth a try, but only if you’re buying it from somewhere that has a return policy just to be safe.

Absolutely useless…. And very expensive… I paid for this tiny bottle $35 in organic food store (still don’t understand why Organic Food store sells this)…
Did nothing to my soft and brittle nails. Chipping off like crazy after only couple of layers applied. As per instructions I should have 7, for better result… never got to it.
Don’t waste your money….

Very disappointed. I faithfully followed the instructions the first several weeks, and my nails grew to a long length, but they always do this if I keep them covered in polish.
However, I noticed my clean nails were peeling more, not less, and my nails were breaking more while they were covered in the polish. (I don’t normally have a problem with breaking nails.)
In addition, I have a long-term vertical split in one nail, and I was hoping that prolonged use of this product would help. I hoped that as the split area grew out, the new nail would be stronger and split-free. Nope. Still have the split, which recurs over and over.
On a lesser note, when I wear as many coats of polish as the instructions dictate, the product builds up near the cuticle and is very visible, and the product is very difficult to remove with polish remover.

I want to love it as much as I love Butter’s Nail Polishes… but I hate this product so much. It goes on like a dream, dries super fast and their is slight boost to nail growth but it WEAKENED my nails to the point where they would peel and the tips snagged like crazy.
It has left me no choice but to clip my nails shorter than they were when I started using this. I think this really is a marmite product cos my friend uses it and it works great for her. For me personally, this is a complete dud.

I didn’t really think this would work until I tried it. Barely two days after applying to my nails, they were growing like crazy! I was actually pretty impressed. It was a bit strange though because my nails started to grow in strange shapes (nails became a bit lopsided). It started to chip in about 4-5 days which is pretty good considering I have a rigorous job. I did notice however, that my nails got pretty dried out after use. So in conclusion, if you wanna grow your nails out really fast then you definitely want this product. Just keep in mind that you still have to do regular nail maintenance.

I purchased and started using this product about a year ago after taking off solar nails that I had kept on my nails for over 15 years. My nail beds were extremely damaged and temperature sensitive and my nails themselves were as thin as tissue paper that tore, flaked and split very easily.
I started using this to promote fast growth of my nails in hopes that once they grew out they would start growing in normal, without ridges, and thicker so that I wouldn’t cringe anytime I washed my hands, showered or reach into the freezer to grab something for dinner. This product did just as it claimed, I brushed this on every 5-7 days as directed and it helped my nails grow in faster and stronger. I have been artificial nail free for over a year and my nails are strong and normal looking with no ridges, white spots in the beds, etc.

I only use this once on bare nails, then use their base coat , a polish, and their PPD topcoat. It works well for me this way and my manicures last longer than they ever did before. When it’s time to change polish, I repeat that process. People who are applying multiple coats over multiple days will probably have a poor experience. For your information: Horsetail extract ( from the horsetail plant that Native Americans have used for a very long time) can also be taken orally as a supplement. I take it and Biotin everyday. It’s inexpensive and works wonders for hair, skin and nails. Dermatologist recommended. Please stay away from formeldehyde- those types of strengtheners work well for most people in the beginning, but can be very drying and cause soft spots in the nails or worse-nail loss. Another tip is to find a cuticle oil with lanolin in it. That’s the very best moisturizer for cuticles and nails. Elon is a not too expensive brand, but Walmart also carries one. Read the label. Look for lanolin- not lanalool. Hope that helps someone!
