I have to agree with a previous reviewer, I also could not tell this did anything. I did use up the entire bottle though, because it was easy to fit into my routine and didn’t cause any issues like pilling or irritation, and I assumed the antioxidants must be useful, even if I could not see the effects. It has a distinct smell, but it didn’t bother me. It is quite a dark shade of brown, but using a tiny drop at a time in my night routine did not stain my pillowcases. I might buy it again if I need to pad up an order to get over the free shipping threshold.

After using a bottle, I cannot tell what this does. I have read lots of literature that Pycnogenol is a powerful antioxidant, but for now the Ferulic + resveratrol is still my choice of antioxidant in this line. Since I cannot tell difference I won’t repurchase.

The release of The Ordinary’s new pycnogenol 5% was a release I was very excited for, especially since I’ve heard many good things about the product’s featured ingredient: pycnogenol – also known as Pinus Pinaster Bark Extract, which is a plant from French maritime pine trees. The term pycnogenol is simply a trademarked term for the Pinus Pinaster Bark Extract.
Some studies have shown that pycnogenol has properties for skincare similar to those of vitamin c- helps brighten skin, protects skin from environmental aggressors. and helps with collagen stabilization. During my months of use I must say that I did notice many of the positive effects that were similar to using a good vitamin c serum- increase in brightness and reduction in hyperpigmentation. I used this by mixing it in the my evening moisturizer, but you can apply this on it’s own, but it would get a little pricey since a 0.5 ounce bottle is about $10.
I like using this as a booster in my skincare routine instead of on its own. Also like that it is cruelty free and packaged nicely. A nice addition to my routine. If you are interested my more detailed review can be seen here: k
