This is one of the cheapest oils you can buy from Deciem right now and that alone makes it alone worth trying. It claims to “offers a calming effect”, and “particularly well for the dry and/or irritated skin conditions.”
PROS: I find it really does do well with the calming effect and for mildly irritated skin. It’s not a super heavy oil and you could get away with a little bit of it during the day if you wanted to. My skin likes it.
CONS: The smell. Oh my God. I literally thought I was going to have to discontinue use of this because for some reason the smell was really ~present~ when I first got it. It’s not a strong smell or even offensive in any typical way, it just has this smell that feels like it somehow belongs in the musty category, but it’s a cousin, or something. It lingers and thank God it went away when I used it after a couple weeks.
Not sure if I will buy it again with how many products exist in the world, but I’ll definitely recommend it!
UPDATE: This product is PHENOMINAL when combined with MISSHA Super Aqua Snail Essential Moisturizer. The two of these together is pretty much HG status results. The amount of calming and “pseudo-whitening” effect I get from them as a result makes my skin look WAY younger and more even toned. My face is darker than my neck, not from damage or pigmentation, but it’s just a little more naturally reactive and it’s a common thing for pale people. These two products really do work against that difference though.
I’d give this a 4.5 review but MUA still doesn’t do half stars. For shame!

This product saved my skin! I live in Canada and the winter months can be severely dry and freezing cold. This causes my skin to fall apart. My face becomes dry and flaky with psoriasis and my hands crack and bleed from wearing gloves and repetitively washing them. (Cold and flu season). I used The Ordinary rose hip oil in the summer but thought id give the Borage seed a try in winter because of the reviews saying it’s good for eczema etc. it worked like a charm! Put 2 drops on my face and rubbed the excess on my knuckles and no skin issues at all! I highly recommend it if you suffer with extreme dry skin or irritated skin.

I adore this! As an acne sufferer it’s the only oil I’ve ever had sucess with. I have read research showing that people with acne have an imbalance of oleic and linoleic oils in their sebum and this is what causes acne- borage seed oil has the highest concentration of linoleic compared to oleic- theory goes that this should help prevent break outs while moisturising.
I have found that I can use this and not break out! Which is pretty Miraculous for me. I use it overnight and mix it with some cold pressed aloe Vera gel – a very cheap and good combo for me and when I wake up my skin is bouncy and hydrated and smooth, and irritation has gone down.
If you are considering trying any of the oils from the ordinary I reccomend this one!

So I jumped on the Ordinary bandwagon and just went crazy. By far, this brand is one of the best skincare finds of the century. Most of the products worked well for me and considering the price, I really don’t have any complaints. However, as always, some products work better than others.
I bought a whole bunch of oils and this is my favourite. It’s lighter than the rosehip oil, absorbs much better and clarifies my skin overnight. Perfect for aging, sensitive and acne-prone skin. Regarding the smell, I feel that it smells similar to olive oil. Not the most pleasant but I can live with it.

Recommended to me when I asked for product recs directly from the Deciem website and I love it! It helped with the redness of my acne scars and it made my skin more hydrated, healthy. I’d try the rosehip seed oil after I run out but if I don’t find any good ones, I’d buy this again!

I bought this as I had heard it was good for reducing sensitivity. However, I cannot bring myself to put it on my face as it smells absolutely repulsive – gone-off raw meat. I tried applying it to my hand to see if the smell would go away, but it lasted for a solid 20-30mins. I am annoyed that I purchased this, even though the price is very reasonable, because I will never EVER use it. The packaging is also annoying as the dropper leaks even when you don’t squeeze it

Borage seed oil’s claim to fame is its unusually high concentration of gamma-linolenic oil, an essential fatty acid that has natural anti-inflammatory properties. This oil is nourishing, soothing, emollient, and protective. It is especially suitable for sensitive, dry, and/or irritated skin, including skin suffering from eczema or psoriasis.
The Ordinary’s 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Borage Seed Oil is RICH and THICK. This is not a good choice if you’re looking for something that will absorb quickly or can’t tolerate a heavy, stereotypically “greasy” feel. It is extremely slippery (and quite tenacious in sitting on top of the skin, at least for me) and would be great for facial massage.
My favorite way to use it is as a protective and conditioning skin treatment in the shower or bath. I have naturally very dry skin and mild rosacea. To be frank, even water can be problematic for my skin, and to make matters worse, I happen to love long hot showers and baths. I’ll emerge looking like a cooked lobster with my skin screaming bloody murder… but not when I apply a generous coating of this oil first. I spread a dropperful across my face and hop in, and then at the end of my shower or bath, I massage the oil into my skin. As I mentioned, this is not a fast absorbing oil, and my skin doesn’t really absorb products well to begin with, but the steamy environment + damp skin = able to massage in and really get the benefits of this oil. I believe adding this oil into my routine has resulted in healthier (and happier) skin.
A total beauty bargain at $4.20 for 30ml of pure borage seed oil. According to The Ordinary, the oil is sustainably sourced, organic, and cold-pressed.
As always, YMMV. That said, I would definitely not skip a patch test if your skin is clog prone (mine is not). A quick Google search yielded a comedogenic rating of 2 and suggested that borage seed oil’s anti-inflammatory properties can help fight acne. Still, the consistency alone makes me think you would want to proceed with caution.
