   I had avoided the ShiKai brand because I had once tried one of their shampoos and wasn’t impressed. In cold weather, I rotate btw several body moisture products reasoning that a variety of formulas that my skin likes cover all bases. This one is great if I am showering before going out because it adsorbs quicker than the other winter formulas I use while still providing sufficient moisture. In warmer weather, this will probably become my thicker body moisturizer and I will only use it occasionally, switching to a lighter formula most days.

   As the back of the 8oz bottle states:
   – Fast relief for dry, itching skin
   – Rich in borage, an omega-6 fatty acid
   – Recommended by doctors & patients
   – Non-greasy, non-non irritating, & unscented

   This lotion saved my face from some unknown (allergic?) reaction. I have fair, thinning, sensitive skin, & was diagnosed with rosacea some time ago. I had not introduced a new topical to my skin care regime since this past Feb (PC 2% BHA liquid) which went well. Last week of May, my face just exploded. Splotchy redness with raised welts under my eyes, alongside my cheekbones, accompanied by painful itching on face & neck.

   I immediately eliminated all actives & just went with bland cleansing & moisturising. Saw several bottles of this in the clearance bin @ the grocer, checked MUA reviews, and purchased (stashing the receipt for possible return if it didn’t work)

   Amazing. In <2days, all itching gone, redness eliminated. After 5days, overall skin tone & texture is even. As an unexpected bonus, the various broken caps I've had for years are "relaxed" to the point of being barely noticeable. That alone still makes it a bargain, if not a Fort Knox steal @ full price (current range $9-$14 USD)

   I would recommend this lotion, *especially* if you have reactive skin, and are in the process of adding actives/acids (lactic/glycolic/mandelic), VitC, or retin-A to your regime. Give it a try if you have to go into damage control mode. If it doesn't work, repurpose for dry skin elsewhere.

   I don't notice this lotion on the shelves at many stores, but web search shows it is carried by iHerb, Vitacost, Drugstore.com and Amazon.

   Footnote: Realizing skin care is YMMV, I had been researching lineolic acids for skin care. Googling borage oil, I found this:

   Healthy skin depends on adequate amounts of lipid, in particular certain polyunsaturated fatty acids called essential fatty acids (EFAs), for moisture, suppleness and smoothness as well as to prevent skin disorders.1 The most important polyunsaturated fatty acids for maintenance of healthy skin and for the alleviation of skin disorders are the essential fatty acids of the omega-6 family, namely linoleic acid (LA) and GLA. Dietary deficiency of these fatty acids results in a characteristic scaly skin disorder, increased epidermal turnover rate, weak cutaneous capillaries that rupture easily, decreased wound healing and increased transepidermal water loss (TEWL) leading to xerosis (dry skin). Dry skin is the most common skin condition and is especially common in the elderly. By the age of 80 years, the epidermis may lose as much as 50% of its thickness, which accelerates water loss. Dry skin also exacerbates many other skin conditions including eczema and psoriasis.
   The essential fatty acid gamma linolenic acid (GLA) from borage and other oils has been shown to be one of the most effective agents for the treatment of skin disorders and for the maintenance of healthy skin. The fatty acid profile of borage is unique in that it contains 20 to 24 percent GLA. Evening primrose oil contains 8 to 10 percent GLA and black currant oil contains 15 to 17 percent.

   GLA is also the precursor for potent, short-lived, hormone-like compounds called eicosanoids, such as prostaglandin E1, which helps modulate normal skin physiologic processes by improving blood flow and reducing inflammation, as well as reducing water loss.

   Great product. Such a relief for dry skin!
   I really suffered from a dry and irritated skin on my body, this product helped a lot! it absorbs almost immediately and non greasy. As a bonus, it cleared acne on my back.
   It’s non scented, but it has this slightly odd scent, which disappears after application. For a benefits of this product, can put up with it.

   I liked this lotion at first, but it had a slight odd scent that wasn’t exactly pleasant… and then it turned… rancid? Now it has a slightly fishy scent. Ugh. Unacceptable for a pricey product.

   I’m on my 2nd bottle of ShiKai Borage Therapy Dry Skin Lotion. It is available at health food stores and online. Mine is original unscented. Where I work, scent is forbidden and I found most hand creams way too scented to be comfortable using them in the office.

   This dry skin lotion is pretty much the perfect lotion for winter hands. It comes in an 8oz pump bottle, and the consistency is more liquidy than creamy. This makes for quicker rub-in time, but be careful to pump only a tiny bit. A dime-size amount is required for each hand. It leaves a soft sheen on the hands, and keeps them super soft, even after washing.

   Best of all, this dry skin lotion is not tested on animals, and contains no animal ingredients. The bottle bears the leaping bunny logo, something that is too rarely mentioned on MakeupAlley. Animal testing is abhorrent to me, and so this is why ShiKai is a brand of choice for me. It is more expensive than drug store brands but I like it better, because it isn’t packed with lots of added chemicals that I don’t want leaching into my skin.

   I really like that this product is unscented. Both DH and I use this. Moisturizes without being greasy. Great ingredients such as aloe vera, borage oil. glycerin, jojoba oil, vitamin C & e and shea butter.

   I love this lotion, as it is unscented and can be used anywhere on the body, even the face or hair. It is a thin liquidy consistency and a little goes a long way. I find that the lotion in the pump bottles is the exact same as in the tube of hand “cream” they make, so one really doesn’t need but one big bottle and can decant some into a little bottle for your purse. Very nice product, highly recommended and I would buy it again. Plus I think the packaging is pretty.

   This lotion is very moisturizing. I use it on my hands and body, and sometimes as a facial moisturizer on my dry and sensitive skin. It has a relatively short ingredient list and it contains beneficial ingredients. It’s highly rated by Beautypedia.

   I love this lotion! To start off, I have sensitive, very acne-prone, and very dry skin. Ugh horrible combo, huh?! But honestly this lotion is one of the best lotions that I have ever tried in my life, I have tried so many, from baby lotions, body butters, and the pricest of cremes, and nothing has ever felt this soothing and relieving. I got the one that was lightly fragranced, even though I know that fragrance-free is best for skin, especially sensitive skin, I loved the smell and tried it out on my hands and arms at the store, and it felt so good. (By the way you can buy this at Whole Foods or any other “natural/organic” famed grocery store). The smell is, light as it said, but smells of like an orange creme icicle. My brother also uses and loves this lotion and thinks that it smells of a Gin and Tonic with a slight orange twist (hes 22, what do you expect) …which may or may not sound appealing to smell like alcohol–I assure you it doesnt smell alcoholy at all. It smells quite good. What I like about the lotion besides the smell is the actual performance, it soothes my skin and dries quickly. If theres one thing I cant stand is the the wait time for some body lotions for it to soak in and dry up–this is quick and dries to a semi-matte finish, but makes your skin look and feel moisturized. I bought it for $10 and would definitely buy it again.

   EDIT: I would also like to add (after using this consistently for a period of time), I have seen a great deal of improvement in my skin. Before my skin would get dried out easier, my hands and feet most in particular. I use this all over my body every other day after I get out of the shower. Like i said before, it dries quickly, smells wonderful, and soothes my skin. But Ive come to find, that it does more than that. My skin is noticeably softer, smoother, and actually locks in moisture. Also, I wanted to mention, the smell is lightly frangranced, so the smell will stay in your skin, but it will NOT be overwhelming in any way. It is extremely sublte. Usually lotions with scents will linger and I feel like the smell starts to morph in to another scent…this does not do that. All in all, I LOVE THIS STUFF. It is literally the best body lotion that I have ever tried.

    – texture, not thin, neither thick, absorbs easily, though perhaps too emollient for summer, means ideal for winter
    – convenient ‘pump’ packaging

    CONS
    none really {could be cheaper – 9$/8oz at vitacost and more easily available}
