   No he comprado en línea este producto. Pero hace algunos años mi madre me trajo varias tarros de esta crema. Me encantó porque limpia maravillosamente la piel. Soy propensa a manchas tipo paño y esta maravillosa crema las desapareció. La edad ya no es mi mejor aliada, pero creo que esta crema podrá devolverme el brillo.

   This review is for Madre Perla de Ultratez Crema Blanqueadora alone, not including the other products from the recommended Madre Perla regimen, which include Crema de Dia and Crema Noche. Years ago I used hydroquinone for dark spots (melasma), and it worked very well, but as recently as 2006, FDA studies have shown the safety of regular use of products containing hydroquinone is a bit “iffy”. I know that Kojic Acid works to help lighten underarm discoloration, because it’s in my antiperspirant, and it’s quite effective (Dermadoctor Total NonScents Brightening), but I don’t know (yet) of any face treatments that contain Kojic Acid. Using retinol serum nightly helps, as well as daily use of SPF 30, and periodic use of Nia24, but there are areas on my face, particularly above my upper lip, that are resistant to fading. I saw Madre Perla Crema Blanqueadora on the shelf at CVS as I was waiting for a prescription to be filled, and, for around $6.00, I figured it couldn’t hurt to try it. My skin is very resistent (ORPW Baumann skin-type), so I figured this cream probably wouldn’t do much of anything. However, the results after a couple of weeks are impressive – there is definite fading, and less blotchiness in areas where I apply Madre Perla. Madre Perla Blanqueadora is a very thick, stiff cream that contains particles of concha nacar (oyster shell), which act as exfoliators, and are believed to have the ability to bleach skin. The shell powder feels a lot like sand. In addition to the concha nacar, this cream contains citric acid, which is an “AHA”, and papain, which is an enzyme used to make meat tenderizer. Madre Perla also contains urea and mineral oil which are good moisturizers for some skin. I use Crema Blanqueadora as a face mask on my darkened areas. I rub it in, and leave it on for an hour. It doesn’t melt into skin, it dries white, and hardens. When rinsing with warm water, it feels just like any regular facial scrub, but it’s quite a bit more gentle than the classic “apricot” scrubs. The thorough exfoliation alone gives my face a noticeable “glow”, but after a few days, I started to see less contrast in the darkened areas. I haven’t experienced any irritation or breakouts while using this, but, based on my very limited knowledge of how ingredients work, I don’t think this is a product that’s formulated for dry and/or sensitive skin. If you have resistant, oily/combo skin, it may be worth it to drop 6 bucks on this, but don’t waste $6.00 if your skin reacts negatively to lots of skin care treatments. Also, from what I’ve read, the FDA is not a huge fan of Papain in skin preparations (see and, Paula’s Choice Cosmetics Ingredient Dictionary lists it as an irritant.

   I actually really like this. I bought this about a year ago at rite aid and used it a few times, then put it away. At first I was putting it all over my face but I didn’t like the feeling of film it left and was worried about breakouts, so I stopped using it. But when I did use it, I saw an immediate difference, especially when leaving it on over night. Recently I had a spot I picked at, then dried out with BP, then the skin flaked off leaving a huge (about the size of a dime) red mark. BRIGHT red! I put some of this on at night with a band aid over it and the next morning it was just slightly pink and the ragged edge of dry skin had disappeared. The next three days I’ve been applying it as a spot treatment and now it’s pretty much gone. A little pink, but blends right in with my skin tone. I started spot treating with it on other marks and I just can’t believe how well it works. If you’re concerned about the film it leaves and don’t want to risk breakouts, using it as a spot treatment is the way to go. I wish I hadn’t put this away when I did, lord knows I needed it more then! I’m tempted though to use it as an all over mask again because it never did cause breakouts, I was just paranoid after I finally cleared my skin up after 12 years of suffering! You get a ton of product for a very small price, I believe I paid 6 dollars. I feel a tingle when using it on raw spots, but it doesn’t burn. I’m very happy!

   I purchased this online through Walgreens, because I could not find a local supplier. The price was great, it was about $7, plus shipping. I tried it for three days in a row. What I did not like was my skin felt coated after I washed it off.

   Ingredients are: Purified Water, Glyceryl Monostearate Se, Vegetable Glycerin, Titanium Dioxide, AC Polyethylenes And Copolymers, Hydrogenated Polybutenes, Mineral Oil, Lanolin Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Stearic Acid, Beeswax, Acetylated Lanolin Alcohol, Dimethicone, Mother Of Pearl (Processed Oyster Shell Powder), Bentonite Clay, Fruit Acid (Citric), Papain (Papaya Enzyme), Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Tetrasodium EDTA, Fragrance.

   I did an internet search trying to find out more as to whether mother of pearl (or, processed oyster shell) actually fades hyper-pigmentation. I had partial success in being able to read some of an article, that said, basically, yes, it will fade, but also evidence that usage inhibits the skin’s ceramide production. I was not able to view the entire article.

   As I did not like the coated feeling after using this, and not needing any decreased ceramide production at my age, lol, I discontinued using it.

   EDIT: For those interested in trying this, I did see it on the shelves at a local CVS just the other day. I don’t know if it is a new product for CVS or not. Back, when I bought it, the company did not list CVS as one of their retailers, and frankly, I don’t remember looking for it there.

   This product is GREAT for anyone with acne scars or hyperpigmentation. I used this for 2 weeks everyday and the scars from a chest breakout (gross) totally disappeared.

   I’ve personally only found this product at Walmart and if I remember correctly it’s between $4-$7.

   Forget about hydroquinone. Seriously. You will never use it again. Hydroquinone does not work as fast as this product. You see a difference instantly and with in a month of regular use (5 times a week for one hour) dark acne spots have faded almost completely.

   This is a cream you apply to your face for 30-minutes to 1 hour once a day, then wash off with warm water and use the bits of ‘pearl’ to exfoliate. It does lighten your skintone if you apply all over your face (which I do). You have to use a sunscreen with this product.

   I came back from a trip to Pakistan with scars all over my face–100+ degree heat makes me breakout and I scar every single time I get a pimple–whether I touch it or not. I used this for four days and my friends were amazed at what a difference this made. (They saw me the day I came back)….

   GO!!! TRY IT. It’s in the ethnic skin/hair section at Walmart.
   It’s super cheap and doesn’t dry out my face even though I have eczema!
