I loved the “original” version of Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream with 15 spf. It allowed me to have some of the skin-clearing benefits of Retinol without the difficulty I had making use of the much-stronger Differen — a product I was able to use when I was younger but is now too harsh for my combination but still acne-prone, middle-age skin. Unfortunately, the manufacturer reformulated their day/night versions of this product yet again such that many of the ingredient lists/photos shown for the product online are out of date (from what I can tell reading other Internet reviews that complain of the same, these formula changes may date back as far as two years). Indeed, on my most recent purchase I confirmed that Retinol has moved from position eight in the ingredient list on my old product to dead-last on the new label, which suggests a lower concentration. The ~10-letter chemical names are higher up the list and the natural ingredients such as green tea are also lower on the list, which suggests that the formula has been cheapened.
Johnson & Jonson, manufacturer of Neutrogena, has a pattern of ticking off customers by reformulating — without any packaging changes to tip consumers off (no “new and improved” or similar to suggest as much). What’s more, according to customers on the Internet’s biggest book/retail website, J&J will deny that they did anything to change the product if contacted — even though the ingredient lists have been re-ordered and/or changed!
I thought that I could simply remedy the problem with the formula change by moving to one of the more expensive Retinol-SA formulas Neutrogena offers, but that was not to be when I discovered that J&J is adding PTFE — the same ingredient used in plumbers’ tape and nonstick cookware — to their Retinol-SA products. (PTFE was detected in a national study in infant cord blood samples and the bloodstreams of pregnant women throughout the U.S. This led in the early 2000s to a voluntary agreement with the EPA to gradually withdraw these chemicals from the U.S. market over a 10-year period. Instead, the use of PTFE/PFOAs have only increased to include products where it was not used in the past — i.e. as a slip agent in skincare products.)
Because Neutrogena was my go-to brand for Retinol products — and now I can’t in good conscience buy any of them — I decided to try the Healthy Skin Face Lotion with 15spf. sunscreen in Neutrogena’s multi-vitamin and Alpha-Hydroxy formula as a temporary alternative. While I do see improvements to my skin in terms of a slightly smoother appearance after three weeks of daily use, it burns slightly when applied, causes my eyes to smart (water) for hours — after which my mascara begins to transfer to my lower lid area! — and, over the course of a day, my face begins to turn orange because the Alpha-Hydroxy content doesn’t play nice with makeup! (Embarrassingly, this took me three weeks to appreciate.)
Retinol and Alpha-Hydroxy as ingredients increase photosensitivity — which means the sunscreen is all the more necessary because fair skin, in particular, will be more likely to burn if these ingredients are applied to the face during the day. I have long known that it is not ideal to use products containing these ingredients during the day; however, now that J&J has cheapened one of the most popular Retinol-containing sunscreens, I have even more reason to rethink my daytime sunscreen product entirely.
In conclusion, I think the case could be made to J&J that labeling this “original” when it is not the original formula that customers have come to depend on constitutes misleading (false) advertising. J&J should either return to the original formula or stop making use of the term “original” on product packaging.

When I ran out of my beloved Rapid Wrinkle Repair Daytime, I decided to purchase this as an alternative because a) I love Neutrogena b) spf c) It contains retinol like the RWR. d) it was $20 cheaper!
Big mistake! Within days my fairly tolerant skin was covered with large cyst-like pimples which left scarring. This also has a slightly irritating chemical scent that have me a headache. It is very hydrating, but it kind of sat on my skin, never fully absorbing.

This is my daily moisturizer; it’s got sunscreen but doesn’t leave a greasy look or feel, and retinol is a nice bonus. I’ve noticed my occasional breakouts have gone away entirely since I started using this, another plus. I would give it a 5 if the sunscreen was higher than 15!

It is a pretty good product. Does not leave my combo skin greasy like most day creams with sunscreens do. It feels a bit fatty on the skin just after application, but it kinda melts into your skin too.

I do love this cream. This is a thick, emollient daily moisturizer that smells ever so slightly of SPF and does not leave a greasy residue.
The anti-wrinkle properties leave me a bit ambivalent. I do notice my face feels tighter and my skin more plump and “lifted” after using this, but I’m not sure how much it’s actually prevented or lessened fine lines on my own face because I’m 27 and don’t really have them. The one or two I do have are not really noticeable to anyone but me and this cream has not discernibly evened it out since I started using it.
As far as a moisturizer, I think this is perfect for everyday, under the makeup wear. It dries quite nicely and doesn’t add any shine to my face whatsoever, but still leaves it feeling supple. It definitely protects my face in the sun, I’ve yet to be sunburned once.
For the price I feel like this is a great product that helps keep skin healthy and moisturized without a ton of effort on my part. Sunscreen is vitally important and I wish I used it daily from a younger age.
The container it comes in is a tiny bit cumbersome. It’s in a metal tube that needs to be rolled up similar to toothpaste once the product runs low. Tip: When it gets to the point the product no longer comes out of the tube, cut it in half and get it out that way. You’ll find it lasts for a couple more uses.

WOW is all I can say right now. This product is a total game changer! I’m 28 years old and have just started to notice fine lines around my mouth and forehead. I also have adult acne (thanks hormones!) And get patches of closed comedones all over my cheeks. These suckers never want to budge so unfortunately the only thing that worked was extraction. On top of everything the texture of my skin is just awful – rough, bumpy “chicken skin” appearance. I have been experimenting with a ton of products over the last year or so from homemade potions, AHAs, BHAs, chemical peels YOU NAME IT. I wanted to try getting a prescription for a retinoid but I read that if you have sensitive skin (which I do) it’s better to start with an otc retinol. Enter this product. I have only been using it for 3 days and already I see a massive improvement in my closed comedones and skin texture. It is honestly like magic. While it’s still too early to see any improvement on my fine lines, this cream makes my face feel and look SO SOFT. I can’t stop touching it! Where has this cream been all my life?

I got this at a local Walmart and it was relatively cheap. I used this moisturizer on a clean face and after the first day it seemed to me at least that my skin appeared firmer. But by the third day I noticed a bunch of tiny bumps in patches on my face… Not pimples just skin colored bumps. I figured it may be a short reaction but each day more bumps showed up. On day 5 my husband looked at me strangely then asked of something happened to my face, referring to the now numerous bumps. I said no but it may be this moisturizer. I stopped using it after even my husband noticed the bumps. I had not changed any other products in my skin care routine aside from this moisturizer so I know this was the problem. The worst part, It’s been 2 weeks now and I still have some bumps on my cheek, although they are mostly gone. Hopefully when it’s reached a month they will be completely gone. But I had to write this review to warn others… Maybe some people used this and were ok but there is definitely something faulty with this product. The bumps last far longer then the days this cream is used, it’s not worth it! I hope others will see that this can cause ugly long lasting bumps, and simply stay away from this product! So not worth it.

Sensitive skin need not be afraid of this product which does indeed do wonders for your skin.
1. By gentle exfoliation through AHA at the effective PH range, you get blemish free smooth skin. Milia , black heads noticeably less after one week of use
2. To reduce possible irritation by the glycolic acid I first put on a basic moisturiser before applying a gentle layer of this to my face
3. Works well on the neck and décolletage
Price is very attractive. High cost items may not perform so well!

My HG moisturizer.
It doesn’t break me out, which is always the first thing I worry about. I like that it has SPF and is anti wrinkle. This has a nice mousse like consistency and I find a little goes a long way. The packaging could be improved, it’s hard to get the last of the product out when it’s near the end, and for the price I don’t want any to go to waste!

I love this cream. I use it as my day cream under foundation. I was using it as a night cream as well but started using the Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair at night and this during the day. I feel that is does help reduce wrinkles and my face looks brighter. Will definitely repurchase. It is gentler than the Rapid Wrinkle Repair and I had no problem with sensitivity.
