I had a sephora consultant give me a skin care treatment with this in store first before buying. Cause it’s sephora, and you can ask that 😉
It is NOT a moisturiser. She told me to use it before a moisturiser, wait 10 min for it to absorb, then apply a good moisturiser as my skin is normal-dry (I have FAB’s ultra repair *face* moisturiser a lighter consistency than their body ultra repair cream which does not contain ginger – it does contain radish root but it has been fermented first and thus the supha irritants are no longer active).
My skin and decolletage has been pink-red for many years. Not rosacea. I’m just ruddy. My neck is very pale and neutral. I didn’t think it was ever something I could do anything about so I just used colour corrector on occasion if I felt it mattered.
This works. Not hugely, so far, but it certainly has taken it down a notch. I’ve been using it 4 days and I can actually *SEE* my creamy pale complexion peeking through the redness again, something I haven’t seen in many years. I don’t give a toss about the smell because of the result. And as soon as I put on my La Roche-Posay face sunscreen, then my moisturiser, can’t really smell it anymore anyway.
One thing – my skin does get initially *more* pink for about 2 minutes before it calms down and fades.

The sulfur odor in this product was so strong that it made me nauseous and within a few minutes my skin began to burn. I removed it quickly, but the side effects lasted for several hours.

I have somewhat dry, sensitive skin that’s prone to redness, and bought this at a Sephora on a whim. And omg. I’m never going without it. It pretty much immediately calms the rosiness on my cheeks, to the point where I had several people mention that my skintone looked more even. The packaging is nice–keeps the air out–although it’s hard to tell when you’re running low. I ran out suddenly and wasn’t prepared, and given how addicted I am to it now, that was a little disappointing.
Although it has a thicker texture than more serums, it’s most definitely NOT a moisturizer. You need to apply something hydrating to your skin after this serum.
100% would buy again.

It works! However, this is not a moisturizer. It is a lightweight lotion designed to stop redness.
The caffeine in the product is what the sales associates credit for reducing redness, and this makes sense. Caffeine, among other things, constricts blood vessels.
It also contains sulfur, which some people don’t like, but it can be effective and useful. I only use it when I’ve tried other things that don’t work and my skin is still problematic. For example, when I was having a bout of acne, I used Dermadoctor’s Aint’ Misbehavin’ Mask (which contained sulfur) once a week and it helped. This was after I had experimented with other acne products that had failed.
Sulfur is referred to in the Bible as “brimstone.” Ancient Greeks and Egyptians used sulfur to treat skin ailments. It did and does work for many people because it is antibacterial, anti-fungal, and kills parasites. Some people find it harsh, however; it is still in use. Today there are prescription sulfa antibiotics that are prescribed for acne, and a handful of over-the-counter treatments. Sulfur naturally has a strong scent, however; compared to other sulfur lotions, the smell in this product is not offensive.
I recommend buying the travel-sized ampoules of Anti-Redness Serum for $6.50 to see if the product works for you, and use it sparingly. Once opened, I keep the ampoule in a small zip-lock plastic bag and it takes several days to use it up.The full bottle is $36 if you have success with the sample size. I will be buying both again.
I am giving this a high rating because recently I had a rosacea flare-up and my dermatologist was missing-in-action. Her office wouldn’t call me back, so I couldn’t get my topical antibiotic Cleocin T. I was mad and desperate, and the only thing I could use was Aveeno’s Eczema Therapy, which is a great cream but not helpful in fighting acne. My usual benzoyl peroxide product turned my face red, and the zits were still there. Maybe it’s the caffeine, maybe it’s the sulfur, but Anti-Redness Serum worked.
Rosacea-affected skin is fussy and sometimes illogical in its threshold of tolerance. Sometimes it seems there is no rhyme or reason to what works and what doesn’t. All of a sudden your usual skin care products don’t work. There is a lot of trial and error. You just see results or not.
I used Anti-Redness Serum on a red, inflamed area near my eyes that was very sensitive, that had failed to tolerate even the gentle product Cetaphil. Anti-Redness Serum did not burn my eyes or my skin, I saw immediate improvement, and the serum was lightly moisturizing. I personally did not have problems from the small amount of ginger in the product, but I agree that it might be better to leave out ginger if the product is ever reformulated.
I had already tried First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Cream, which burned on contact due to the eucalyptus oil in that product. (I wish First Aid Beauty would exclude known irritants from their line.) I can use Ultra Repair Cream on my hands, feet, arms, but not on my face. They were so close to getting that product right. I prefer Kate Somerville’s Eczema Therapy to Ultra Repair Cream, but of course it is more expensive.
I think Anti-Redness Serum is good, and if you are looking for an over-the-counter treatment, it is effective and has a nice texture that is not too heavy or greasy. It can be used for zits or for rosacea.
If you don’t have either of these concerns and are just looking for a moisturizer, you may want a creamier formula. It is best for combination or oily skin. For me it was extremely calming and soothing and the inflammation cleared up after using it sparingly for a few days, once a day. If I needed more moisture, I used a small amount of Aveeno’s Eczema Therapy over it.
Anti-Redness Serum was also effective at tacking a pimple that had not responded to benzoyl peroxide. I know it may not work for everyone, but in a time of crisis, it was one of the few things that helped my skin. On this particular day, even La Roche Posay’s Toleriane had felt intolerable.
I also recommend FIrst Aid Beauty’s Cleanser, available in 2 oz. and 5 oz. sizes. The cleanser contains collodial oatmeal which is effective in treating eczema, rosacea, and other skin disorders.
One more note: I could NOT layer Anti-Redness Serum with First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Liquid Recovery. There is something about the two in conjunction that is sensitizing. If you require another lotion over Anti-Redness Serum try Kate Somerville’s Eczema Therapy or Aveeno’s.
(Again, my advice is to try the ampoules first. That way, if you don’t fall in love with the product, you’re only out $6.50.)

This didn’t help much with my redness at all, and it’s stinky. And has a weird texture. No thanks.

I have the beginning stages of rosacea on my nose and cheeks and so I’m always looking for something to diffuse the redness. I also have acne-prone skin, so suffer from comedones on my lower chin and jaw area. I’ve used this for 6 weeks and am returning it to Sephora.
Funny thing is, I might have kept it if I didn’t get a sample of Caudalie Vinosource moisturizing sorbet with my online order from Sephora. I used the FAB serum for like 5 weeks exclusively (so I could tell if there was any affect on my skin, I don’t add more than one product to my skincare routine at once). Then, when I realized it was just not moisturizing enough I stopped using it for a week and tried the Caudalie sample and WOW. My redness was soothed, irritation went away, skin was moisturized. It worked SO much better than the FAB serum that I realized the FAB really wasn’t doing much. So I’m going to exchange it at Sephora.
I’ve heard from skin care pros like facialists etc that hydration plays a key role in managing redness. I just never listened or maybe didn’t realize how much. Until this example basically forced me to see with my own eyes the difference. For me, my redness is definitely made worse when I’m dehydrated.
I’m giving this three lippies as per my pros and cons:
Pros
– non-irritating
– sulpher seems to combat acne and bumps
– reduces some redness
Cons:
– not moisturizing enough if you have any skin type other than OILY. I’m combo and it wasn’t hydrating enough. Now it IS called serum so it’s not fair to judge it too harshly for not being moisturizing, usually serums are followed my moisturizers.
– didn’t make a significant enough impact on my redness either immediately following use or after 6 weeks to justify continued use
– as another reviewer noted it does sting a little bit, it’s worse after exfoliation. I think it’s the ginger.
Overall, I would still recommend someone give it a try and perhaps if you have oily skin you may not need an extra moisturizer. But I’d recommend anyone with sensitive red-prone skin to first address their hydration and moisture as that may soothe redness more effectively and help with skin aging etc.

Not sure if everyone else is using a different product then me, but this did absolutely nothing. My face is still red as a tomato after putting this on,and yes I did use it for a while to see if it did anything.

Loving everything about this! I went into Sephora and asked the sales assistant for something to calm red skin, preferably a moisturiser as I needed a new moisturiser anyway. The SA recommended this product, and it was the last one on the shelf. She highly recommended to compliment it with the cleanser from the same line but that was out of stock.
I was worried I might not get results not having the matching cleanser, but this product works brilliantly on it’s own.
I have red skin just from being a little sensitive, and this definitely helps my skin both feel and look calmer. It’s a serum, but to me it’s more like a light moisturising lotion. I sampled the cream of this range and it was very thick so chose the serum and I’m really glad I did.
It sinks in really quickly and doesn’t sit on my skin like a lot of other moisturisers. Even if it didn’t help with redness it would be a good moisturiser.
I plan on purchasing the cleanser when it’s back in stock, and maybe the cream for night time use.
I took one lippie off just for the price. It’s not overly cheap, but it is effective.

I have perioral dermatitis that flares up with: stress, SLS, exfoliants, etc. I was being a little over zealous about exfoliating and my skin got irritated. I put this on and it calmed the redness and bumps. Smells faintly of sulphur, but goes away after about 5 or so minutes. Works well 🙂

I am not sure if it is a coincidence but ever after using this product, i have less blotchy red skin.
I have mild rosacea that flares up at the time of the month, but this product seems to have kept it under control.
I just a teeny weeny bit before the rest of my skincare routine.
I haven’t stopped using it, so I am not sure of the impact if I ever do.
If u suffer from sensitive skin and rosacea like me, this is a product worth investing in. Sometimes my skin will stings/burns after this product, but only a short while. Perhaps it is the ginger in it.
