This stuff is amazing, and SO well-priced for what it is. I’ve struggled with hormonal acne for years, and while it is now under control thanks to prescription medication, I was left with discoloration and scarring all over my cheeks, as well as skin that just looked tired and blotchy and sad after so many years of me just focusing on acne prevention and little else. The 40% is the first that I’ve purchased – I will probably move up to 50% when this is done.
I use this once a week. I purchased the sample bottle, and it has lasted me three full months. This stuff is incredible. After my first use, my skin’s texture definitely felt better. And with each week, my skintone improved, my face got brighter and glowier, and my hyperpigmentation started fading. Now, three months in, most of my dark spots are gone. I’ve never peeled or dealt with serious dryness because of this, and I always make a point to be gentle with all other skincare on the days that I use it. I also only use it at night and make sure to wear very good SPF the next day (which you should be doing anyway).
My advice with this is do not be an idiot. This is acid that you are sticking on your face, and your face is the only one that you have. Follow the directions and do not think “well, if I keep it on for twice as long, it will be twice as effective!” Good, long-lasting skincare results do not happen overnight. I always use the pH solution before, and I slowly built my way up to using this for 7-8 minutes. Also, I have a few indented scars on my face – this hasn’t done anything for them (I’ll probably end up relying on microneedling for that). Glycolic acid does penetrate your skin and has been shown to stimulate collagen, but I haven’t seen any effect on legitimate scar tissue, for me at least.
This has been a really great alternative for me, someone who doesn’t have hundreds of dollars for the chemical peel that my derm recommended. The sample was around $13, so I highly recommend giving it a try. Packaging is not cute, but you don’t need it to be for it to work. Between spironolactone and this, I’m going outside without makeup on for the first time in four years. That has been huge for me.

LOVE it. Transforming my skin. Incredible results. I use this peel weekly or twice monthly at times. No peeling occurs – just radiant and new skin. I have built up to using it for about 7 mins. before washing off…

I have had acne since I was 13 I’m 33 now and have definite damage from the sun and picking the spots. Ugh so once I hit my 30’s I said no more I need help so I stumbled on RetinA still use it and love it. It has changed my skin by leaps and bounds. I still wanted more because I have on my cheeks light indents from old acne the redness etc, gone. But it needed more help. Also because of being fair and not enough sun protection I got dark spots!:(
So I started using 10%aha cream in conjunction with my RA and loved it. Still I wanted to just have my skin not hide behind foundation. So I ordered the 40% aha and my mom ordered the TCA. I did my 1st peel last night the instructions were good. I washed my face with some mild cleanser(Lancome) and did a light scrub with QH Oatmeal and Honey. Once my skin was dry I applied the prep solution with a cotton square. I applied the prep solution and waited till it dried. Now the acid they say is serum like but to me it was like water.
I didn’t want to waste it so I applied it to a cotton square and applied the 40% AHA. I went for a minute it stung mostly by my nose. I jumped around like a fool my BF just shook his head and then I rinsed it off. Water does neutralize it but I used a cream cleanser as well. When my skin dried omg it’s so soft and it evened my skin tone better than the RA and 10% aha cream. I will update more as I peel but so far it’s a great product it arrived fast and the instructions to me are good.
So far my skin is plump, even toned and blackheads are cleared with no purging. I can still see the light scars on my cheeks so not there yet, but I am very satisfied so far.
*Better to use a Q-Tip I find it saves product and works batter and faster to get your skin coated really well.
Update:8/23/13
This was my 3rd peel I did a full 3 minutes maybe 3 and a half. Either way the burning or stinging wasn’t too bad much more bearable. I have also been doing the Mandelic Acid every 4 day’s as well. This peel though showed a major difference! I have this little pore right on the top of my forehead right in the middle almost by my hairline. I got it in my 20’s and nothing would get rid of it. After this peel this deep pore is almost invisible! I cannot believe it because i thought I would have it forever or need the TCA.
So so far so good I applied 2 layers this time because my skin is pretty tough from the Retin and the AHA 10% cream I use. I also have added the Gly-Luronic Serum into my routine. Omgosh I will be buying a bigger bottle this stuff is amazing but for another review. So far the acne scars on my cheeks are plumping out or the skin is being removed I’m not sure which? My skin is always smooth and my pores on my nose you can’t see unless you bust out a magnifying glass.lol The ones going from my nose have completely decongested without any purging!
I now need to find something to help diminish the size of my pores just around my nose but with these peels I may not need to. My few scars from bad acne are really smoothing out. I use my Retin A way less because I’m not breaking out. Nor is my skin going in reverse from not using the RA all the time. I had just a little peeling by my chin so I am still recommending this to people who suffer with or want to get rid of what acne has done to the skin. Plus all my dark spots from the sun are now gone I do not see them!.
I use a good moisturizer at night either The Body Shop’s Intense Vitamin E Cream or Lancomes Energie De Vie Cream which, is very hydrating and nourishing as well.
I will update further as the peels go but so far this is one of the best products I have ever used!

Ok, here goes…
I have bought many products from muac recently. Lactic, glycolic, mandelic acids, and a tca peel. I did the 25% lactic quite a few times before realizing that it wasn’t purging, it was breaking me out. Loved the way my non broken out skin looked though. Next I tried 40% mandelic peels. These were great for my acne, but dried my skin out so much! I live in a dry climate, and my face would breakout from being so dry after these peels. I did one, 12.5% tca peel. I flaked for a week and half, but my skin looked way awesome, until I had a nasty breakout from it. That being said, my pores were pretty gunky, so I expected as much. So, out of all three of these peels I had some results I wanted, and others I didn’t. I felt like goldilocks and the three bears, this ones too dry, this ones too pore clogging, etc. But ALAS! Glycolic was just right. I have just don’t my 4th peel, and I couldn’t be happier. I purged a few days after every peel. Especially the first was rough. But they are slowly subsiding and now I hardly have any, only a few tiny whiteheads that go away within the day. My skin is not dry after these, I don’t feel greasy anymore, and my acne scars are going away so nicely. I wish I hadn’t wasted so much time with the others it does burn, and it does smell bad, but really, who cares? It works. That’s all you could ask for.
Update: 8/7/13
Ive done my fifth peel now and I am still purging or breaking out. I don’t understand. I’ve been using peels for almost a year now, my pores can’t still be that clogged. Good heavens, I guess they are. I’m stuck. I really think that overall my skin DOES look better, but I keep getting new breakouts and then more hyper pigmentation. I’m so frustrated because I just want my skin to look nice. I’m really young and In the last year I have completely ruined my once perfect skin. I am going to keep using and hoping. I will keep updating.
Update 8/15/13:
Did peel number six, and my face purged again. Ugh. I really don’t feel like this is helping me. I really wanted this to work for me because my skin has been so congested. I think I have more scars now from the purging than I did before. So I am going to back off these for a while and see what happens.
Update 6/24/14:
I think part of the problem with this peel was me. I realize it’s unfair to dog a product just because it didn’t work for me. That doesn’t mean it’s not a good product. Maybe it just wasn’t right for my skin. I realize now that I was putting too many harsh products on my skin, so when I used this my skin was already pushed to the max. Putting an acid on an already burnt skin is just dumb. I wanted to clear my skin up so badly that I wasn’t paying attention to how much I was stripping it. I have used this since, and I still agree that it isn’t for me, but it didn’t hurt my skin like it did before. I think if you have oily skin, or even normal skin this would be great for you. If your skin is thin, a little sensitive, or acne prone I highly suggest mandelic acid. Good luck!

I just did my fourth one.
I started with only one minute for the very first one, two minutes for the second and am now on 3 minutes for the last two, next time I will go for five. I spaced it 5 days to a week apart.
I started it to fade marks but mostly to control my acne, I have a combination of blackheads and white heads, with the occasional cystic acne spot along my jaw line.
Results so far: My marks are a bit faded and my pores seem tighter, but mostly the improvements I have experienced it with my acne.
Before I would have described my skin as oily, I could not wear makeup without powder to set and I would be blotting all day. I would wake up every morning with a super oily face. Now I would describe (after the fourth use) my skin as normal! It is not oily, not dry!
The first time I used the peel (only one minute) on the third day after my skin had a massive purge. It burned off all of the top layers and I could see the white heads and black heads immediately, but they pushed themselves out on the third day, I could easily pick them with my extractor and it didn’t seem to harm my skin.
My skin purged it’s self after the second and third time, but each time was less severe. Now after the forth my skin is done and I just got a few dry flakes of skin which are slowly falling off. I am so happy that the pores next to my nose are not gunked up!
I will use this until all my marks from recent spots are faded, and then maybe every two weeks to maintain my good skin.
I am someone who can’t use proactive because my skin is too sensitive, but this peel seems to go well with my skin I only have minimal redness. I highly recommend a patch test first!! Everyone has different skin.
Still using it 2 months later- I am pretty resistant to this stuff now I don’t recommend this but my acne just wasn’t dying so I started chucking this stuff on every second day for 2 min instead of once a week for 10. It’s the only thing that would kill it. In the end I still had hard painful bumps under my skin so I took antibiotics and wahlah! But then I had whiteheads every where so I tried the Vichy normaderm moisturiser which turned them into nasty blackheads. SO I tried the Vichy facewash with it and my goodness I finally am acne free after a long tiring battle. (Pls only use Vichy if your face is an oily mess like mine was).
I still use this stuff once a week so prevent blocked pores and continue to fade my marks. Will upload pics soon.

After using drugstore glycolic acid products for years I decided to try something a little stronger. I bought the 40% solution, followed the directions and used it only on my face and neck once a week. My face was a little red immediately afterward so I used it (mostly) at night, then applied a good moisturizer. By morning the redness was gone and I could apply makeup if I wished. I’m quite happy with the results and will move on to 50% on my next purchase.

I’ve been battling acne since I was 12, went on Accutane at 26 and was left a scarred mess. I’ve been to several dermatologists and had many many peels and acne facials done, so I knew my face could handle this.
I bought the sample size of 40% and have been using it for about 12 weeks. It’s not even half gone yet! I started out at one minute as suggested and have worked my way up to the full 7 minutes they allow. I have had no peeling, just redness that fades in about an hour.
I just have to say that my face look AMAZING! People are telling me daily that I have beautiful skin. I owe it all to this product. My scars are almost completely gone in 3 months and it cost me $6 so far.
The downsides are that the directions are a little weird. I was left feeling like I wasn’t totally confident I was doing the right thing, and it is a little freaky holding acid in your hand and not being completely sure of the directions. Also, there is not enough of the toner (I will just buy witch hazel when I run out) and I wasn’t sure what to wash my face with prior to the peel (mine didn’t come with any soap). I also wasn’t sure how much to put on and what to use to apply it (I use my fingers).
I also bought a sample of the 50% that I plan to use when this sample is gone. This is hands down the most effective skin product I have ever purchased and that is saying a lot with the hundreds of products I’ve tried over the years.

Okay, I just got this (about 3 weeks ago) and have yet to see a real difference. I apply it once a week. I feel tingling and sometimes burning on actual pimples. It dries them out but other than that nada. A few cystic pimples emerged after the first application and it took until the third application for them to be gone with the aid of a scrub. I have experienced zero peeling and am thinking maybe I should’ve got the 50% peel. Oh, well that’s next month. I’m going to give the 40% six weeks before I potentially switch over. I’m sure it’s working but ever so slowly not bad but also not quite what I expected or wanted, yet atleast. Update to follow.
***Update***
I’m on week 5 of using this peel and I think I have plateaued. It’s fine for gradual exfoliation but I don’t think I’m going to get results quickly with this peel. I know it’s not a race but I honestly don’t think I will get desired results in 6 months even, but then I ask why wait 6 months when you can get it in 3? I can leave this peel on my face for forever and no irritation whatsoever. Rather than going on to 50% or 60% I decided to cut the crap and try the TCA peel. I mean that’s what I really want after all, I’m just being chicken. Wish me luck.

My skin: Extremely acne-prone in the winter, cysts and whiteheads, scars easily, combination. Resistant to BP, nothing happens with SA, glycolic occasionally works. Sulfur occasionally works too, but slowly. I apologize if this is long, but I wanted it to be exhaustive!
I was at my wit’s end and lamenting the ugly state of my skin, silently staring in envy at every clear-skinned woman I’d pass on the street (come on, you know what I mean), browsing MUA’s pages when I saw MUAC’s products. I’d never heard of it before, but I was literally blown away by the reviews! I’ve tried literally everything – DDF, PTR, Caudalie, etc. (I’m pretty sure I know more than the Sephora reps) and placed my order for the 40% Glycolic Peel immediately, as well as the Gly-Luronic Serum. This is my review of the GP and the serum which I will be using nightly, I will be updating constantly… hope this helps you guys!
PEEL #1: My order didn’t come with the soapless soap, so I used my Cetaphil to clean my face beforehand, applied the prep solution, let it dry for a few minutes. I divided my face into 4 sections, and applied used 2 Q-tips making sure not to double dip (1 side for each section). I left it on for 2 minutes, since my skin is used to glycolics (I used PTR’s 10% hydrating nightly until recently), and was surprised to note barely ANY stinging or redness (I must have alligator skin!). Carefully splashed my face with cold water, and neutralized the peel with a mixture of water and baking soda. I’m obviously trying to save that tiny bottle of prep solution for before my peels! Put on pure vitamin E oil on at night.
POST-PEEL #1: Skin looked normal and like it was glowing a bit, but I didn’t have any redness or peeling. It actually didn’t look any different from when I used a 10% glycolic, which made me wonder if I left it on long enough. Scars were slightly lightened, but active acne wasn’t “burned off” as I expected. Had a small cropping of whiteheads turn into small active acne, but then I was expecting that. Slightly underwhelmed? Hoping the next peel does more… Will wait another week.
PEEL #2: Same routine, this time I left it on for 2 1/2 minutes (after I finished slathering it on). I realized last time the 2 minutes I left it on was really 1 1/2 due to the fact that it included my putting the gel on. This time it actually stung a bit, which I liked because I felt like it might be doing something. A little bit of redness and post-tingling, but nothing too crazy. Vitamin E oil again this night.
POST-PEEL #2: 2 days later, not much peeling again but I noticed some small breakouts drying up, one more persistent spot has dried up and seems to be on the verge of peeling. On further inspection, since the 2 peels my acne scars have lightened about 40%! From a dark liver color to a light caramel!! REALLY impressed with the results so far… Although I am using this in conjunction to DDF’s Fade Gel 4 and Tea Tree Oil directly on active blemishes. 1 week later I had some MAJOR peeling that was aided by the winter weather. Sheets of skin peeling off. Skin underneath is supple and healthy.
PEEL #3: Left it on for 3 1/2 minutes now, not on side jaw areas because those are still really dry, didn’t sting as much as the 2nd peel for some reason? Vitamin E oil again, which is so healing!
POST-PEEL #3: The spots once again are much lighter! The little patch on my cheek where I have 4 underground cysts, I coated semi-thickly so the skin is a bit tight and dry but nothing moisturizer can’t fix. Underground cysts feel smaller and are less noticeable… No breakouts after this peel… still loving this stuff!!

I have been using the 40% peel once a week for the last month. I am now up to leaving it on for 6 minutes with no problems. But I am used to doing weekly peels and use daily AHA and OTC retinol. I find this and the 30% glycolic peel to be very helpful to keep my cystic acne on my forehead under control. I would recommend applying a soothing anti-inflammatory product after peeling to help soothe skin. I use Neova Copper mask with excellent results. You have to use this once a week consistently for best results.
