Context:
I bought a sample of this in my search for a hydrating toner with a fair amount of nutrients like amino acids and beta glucan. [I saw it has royal jelly, fermented plant extract and algae so was pretty excited to try it.] (Edit: I got this confused with “Power Essential”. I bought “Essential Power”, which contains birch juice instead). My first asian beauty purchase.
Feel:
Slightly viscous in texture with a pleasant fragrance. Most importantly, it has fantastic skin penetration. I accidentally poured too much once (half the size of my palm) and not wanting to waste any product, slathered all onto my face. It was slimy at first but Wow! after a few minutes, my skin drank it all up. I think this is what the koreans mean when they say chok chok skin. I never experienced this with the Paula Choice Skin Recovery Toner, which I have used alone as a moisturizer in summer. Note to self: Forget the 7 skin method, just slather it all in one go. The viscous yet highly absorbent texture makes it ideal for layering without dripping everywhere like the more water-like toners.
I’m still looking for a HG hydrating toner/essence so I won’t repurchase this for the time being. But very satisfied with the hydration, this might just be the one.
Result:
My skin feels hydrated for hours. I don’t have many skin problems in the first place and this doesn’t worsen it.
Pros
-Very hydrating. It contains most of the hydrating ingredients I look for (beta glucan, betaine)
-Apparently it has some exfoliating properties: the skin refining fermented plant extract mentioned on the website contains lactic acid (quick google search). Still wondering what the mysterious enzymes refer to though. I know I know I’m such a geek lol. Edit: This isn’t found in “Essential Power”.
-A good variety of nutrients from amino acids, royal jelly, beta glucan, algae, minerals, fermented plants.
-Pleasant fragrance doesn’t irritate my normal skin.
-Great texture with no tackiness
Cons
-Wish it contains more of that algae and honey.
Tldr; Gives skin a wonderful chok chok feel. Offers a variety of nutrients for skin. Would be better if it contains higher percentage of those ingredients.
Edit (2018/12/21): Strangely, the full bottle of this refiner has a more viscous texture that doesn’t absorb as well into skin but perhaps that means it’s more concentrated? It is also slightly tacky and the tackiness doesn’t go away for at least half an hour without layering anything on top. Only Pyunkang Yul essence toner is able to reduce the tackiness.

J’adore super laneige !!! Ils ont d’excellents produits. Tous les produits que j’ai essayés sont efficaces. C’est un excellent toner. Je suis amoureux de leur ligne de rive! J’aime aussi leur masque de sommeil à lèvres

I suppose all the other reviewers are DEFINITELY Korean. Can’t believe they give this rubbish five star . This Toner was burning, made my skin unable to breathe, finally swelled up, esp. around my eyeballs. Even NOT WORTH A SINGLE STAR!

My holy grail duo consists of Laneige’s Power Essential Skin Refiner and Balancing Emulsion. I went off skin products for an entire year, and then started using this duo. The next day I woke up with the skin of a goddess. I’ve been using Laneige products for years, and I swear by this brand because no other has given me the same clear and smooth baby soft skin.
Korean toners are not like Western ones where you put it on a cotton pad and then rub it over your face. The best way to use this is to pour a few drops into the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, and pat the water all over your skin. Then follow up with your cream/emulsion.
Laneige products lean on the pricier side of Korean skin care, compared to brands like The Face Shop and Skinfood. However, you get a huge 200mL bottle of product and this lasts me well over a year. Their packaging is also always beautiful and good quality.
Amazing product, amazing value, two simple steps to get amazing skin – 100% worth it.

I LOVE this.
I used this for 2 weeks already and my skin been drinking the moisture of this toner. And plus, it also get rid of the dried dead skins (is it what the packaging says dried keratin?) while you’re toning so it won’t leave your skin with patchy dry skin when putting on makeup later on. It also made my skin healthier because I can see that acne does not appear as often as usual (usually i get 1 in 2 days… sigh).
I won’t call this a HG yet because of the price. But it’s nearly there.

It has a medium to thick runny, watery consistency. The scent of it reminds me of soap. Despite the fact that it contains alcohol, it is not drying to the skin at all. I find that it takes slightly longer to be absorbed and could be a little sticky sometimes. This is good for people with dry skin. For people with oily skin, i think it is better to try products with other benefits instead, since this product is mainly for hydrating purpose.

I didn’t use to be a big fan of toners, possibly because most tended to be drying and irritating to my skin, or just did nothing for my skin except extend my wash routines unnecessarily. When I recently bought the Laneige Pore Purifying cleanser at the counter in my local Korean grocery store, the lady gave me some samples of their other products to try. One of the teeny tiny samples was the Power Essential Skin Refiner – Light toner (only enough for like 2 times). I really liked it, so the next time i went to that place, I bought Laneige Power Essential toner, except I bought the Moisture one by accident. Well, I’ve been using it for a couple weeks now, and i am loving it. It really has a noticeable effect on the texture of my skin, and just feels so light, smells heavenly and isn’t drying or irritating at all. I’m thinking it may even be better (for my skin anyway) than what the Light toner would have been!
As far as price… it was $20 for a 6.7 oz bottle. In the grocery store, it seems to be cheaper than online (which was surprising to me). It’s about the same price as the cleanser, but i think the cleanser is going to last a lot longer than the toner for the same price. The fact that the package pretty much requires you to pour the toner onto a cotton also kind of causes some wasteage of product. Hence my lower ratings for price and packaging. I would have preferred that the bottle be a bit more squeezable so i could control the flow a bit better.
However, I am a fan and will likely incorporate this into my daily routine.

I love this product. It’s nice and light, very watery, but not at the same time. It’s rather strange, almost jelly like, but very thin at the same time. Like the other products in this line, it has a nice, refreshing scent that is very light. The packaging is wonderfully beautiful, though you do have to pour the product into your hand or onto your cotton pad. Thankfully, controlling the flow of the skin refiner is easy as pi! And yes, I mean math. And yes, pi is easy. It leaves your skin feeling light and beautiful, and when you look in the mirror the next morning, you can see a visible difference. I will repurchase, after I run out, and after I try SK-II Clear Lotion, if I don’t enjoy the SK-II more.

I use the Power Essential Skin Refiner Moisture as the second-step in my daily skincare routine, after cleaning my face with Pore Deep Cleaning Foam.
The container for the toner made out of high quality plastic. It has a screw-on/off cap. The packaging is really pretty! Not a big complain, but I wish it’d came with a pump instead which makes things a little more hygienic.
The toner itself is almost opaque, with a runny, watery consistency. It’s fluid yet not thick. The scent is absolutely alluring and all these makes it a dream to apply. This product works very well in hydrating my skin! My skin does not feel sticky at all yet has that subtle ‘plumping’ smooth effect! After applying it to my face, I use my palms to gently pat it for better absorption.
Laneige Power Essential Refiner Moisture is definitely my must-have, sworn-by toner. It comes from a reputable brand, has great packaging, and really worth the price tag. Will I but it again? Definitely!

While I wouldn’t call it my HG just yet, I’ve been using this for about 3 months now and I really really like it. It provides a good dose of moisture, and the bottle will last another month easily, so you get a lot of use out of it. I don’t know exactly what benefits it has besides moisture, but it absorbs quickly and I haven’t experienced any negative side effects. Just a great moisturizing toner that smells nice and works well.
