I think i haven’t had much luck with the bottle I bought because the product has an awful smell. it’s within the expiration date, but it smells like feet.

Ugh I just didn’t like this at all. It was so thick, didn’t absorb into the skin at all and felt heavy and great on my skin. Also, the SPF Is so thick that it made me look white and I couldn’t blend that in enough.
I wanted to love this but its just too heavy for me and too much of the SPF that it made me look like a ghost.

Strong sunscreen smell, makes skin shiny, doesn’t go well under makeup. Stung my sensitive skin. The one thing I like is the bright violet bottle, its easy to spot. However the packaging performance sucks. The product is too thick and the pump doesn’t suck it up. When mine was full it wouldn’t pump out properly and acted like it was empty. Annoying as it is pricey.

Bear in mind that I am extremely picky about sunscreen in general and facial sunscreens in particular. I have dry, sensitive skin that almost often reacts negatively to chemical sunscreens and often to physical ones, too. In this respect, Tarteguard is fine – it does not irritate my skin, it doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t cause any negative reaction. That’s the high point. Does smell like a physical sunscreen, although it’s not as bad as some others, and it doesn’t turn me as opaquely white/milky as some do, either. It is a little greasy (though not the greasiest I’ve tried) and while my dry skin can tolerate it, it doesn’t work terribly well under makeup. At SPF 30, it’s not high enough to use if I’m at the beach, pool, etc., so I was hoping this would work well under makeup as a daily use item – when I’m outside off and on but don’t need the high coverage of an extended stay in the sun. Accordingly, this sort of failed me for its intended purpose and for that I won’t repurchase. But my biggest complaint, and the real reason for the low rating, is that I had an extremely difficult time getting this out of its bottle (the pump didn’t seem strong enough for the thick consistency), and it also thickened/dried/became goopy very quickly.

I got a few small bottles of this various ways from Sephora. The texture is okay. Lightweight, but still kinda greasy. This did not provide protection for my face. I still got burned when I used this at the beach, even with a large amount and reapplication. I don’t like the smell, or that it stays really shiny on my face. It doesn’t do well under makeup in my experience either. The claims and the ingredients are nice, however, the product did not perform well for me.

I love pretty much every tarte product I have tried so far and this just might be my favorite. My skin tends to be dry, so while it sounds like others feel greasy after using this product, I feel like this gives my skin an awesome glow, is really lightweight, and doesn’t break me out. I think it actually works as a great makeup primer on my skin and helps me start off with a fresh looking glow. If you really like matte skin or tend towards being oily, then you probably won’t be a big fan.

I’m really surprised at the low score/bad reviews for this. I really like it, and I have a hard time finding sunscreen for the face that I like. I don’t use moisturizer when I use this, so maybe that is what helps me. I find that in the summer, in particular, I don’t need a moisturizer with a sunscreen product. So I really don’t find this greasy or that it leaves me too shiny. I find it quite pleasant to use. My only complaint is the price, but I am willing to pay it. Most of the year, I am ok with a moisturizer with spf. (I live quite far north, and also am not an outdoors lover) But in the summer, I have to be more careful. (I am very fair.) I don’t have any stinging, and I don’t find it to have a strong or lasting smell. It doesn’t make my face look any more pale than it already is. I like it.

I agree `100% with bluezinnia review below. Greasy mess. I do like the “rubber” packaging. I love Tarte and no hate. But just no.

I’ll be very honest to say that I did not try this out prior to purchasing, but I went ahead and put in my order for a full sized bottle anyway, seeing how much I love all of my Tarte products that I have purchased AND also the fact that I was running low on another suncreen product from a different brand that I was using previously.
This did not disappoint at all, it goes on easy and did not leave a white cast. However one lippie off the review due to 2 factors:
– It is not waterproof
– It leaves a noticeable shine on my face
The shine actually did not bother me too much as I have since learnt that I should skip my moisturizer when I use this sunscreen in the day, this is so moisturizing on its own and if I layered my moisturizer before it my skin just became too shiny/oily. But not being waterproof meant that I needed to purchase another sunscreen for that reason alone.
Packaging did not disappoint (as always), I could get past the smell. I read most of the reviews that mentioned about it being heavily fragranced but it smells very outdoor-sy and fresh to me. Texture is not too thick and application is easy. I would most probably continue to purchase this until something else comes along that is waterproof as well as does not leave a white cast post application while maintaining that smooth lotion texture at the same time.

I like this but I don’t love it. I got a sample in my Sephora Play box and the sample lasted quite a while. I have dry, sensitive skin that had no problems with this sunscreen. The lotion is light and the packaging is cute. The product leaves me a bit shiny and that is why I probably won’t repurchase. I LOVE Cotz matte finish sunscreen and that product will remain my HG.
