After going through several sunscreens that claimed to be “matte” or “non-greasy” I finally found one that lived up to the hype.
I have very oily, sensitive skin and a lot of sunscreens either turn my face red or they make it impossible to wear foundation due to the greasy residue they leave behind. This sunscreen, however, dries VERY matte. I actually like to wear it as a primer even on non-sunny days because it makes my foundation application so smoothe and it controls my oily t-zone.
This absorbs nicely into the skin and wears well. I also haven’t gotten sunburn once, not even on the boiling hot days I was in direct sunlight. It didn’t sweat off me, and it didn’t leave a white cast. It photographed well too.
Before Sunprise I was using Neutrogena Ultra-Sheer Dry Touch, Australian Gold Tinted Sunscreen and the Shiseido Senka UV Essence Sunblock. The Neutrogena and AG would turn oily on me and cause my makeup to slide off, and the Shiseido didn’t dry completely matte.
Now I wear the other sunscreens when I’m just doing yard work. If I’m going out and I plan on doing my makeup I absolutely grab the
Etude House Sunprise. It keeps me from getting burned and it has the added benefits of controlling my oil and giving my makeup a great base.
I ordered mine off Amazon and I always have a backup bottle in my house. I can’t go back to the days of makeup sliding off, or looking like I have Vaseline on my face. No burns. No grease. And if it was fragerence free I would’ve given it five stars.

I lovvveee this. This gave me back the precious gift of being able to wear liquid foundation again.
It’s been a challenge when I can’t use chemical filters, and every physical filter was SO THICK I’d have to wear it alone.
This is very thin and doubles as a primer bc my makeup wears like iron all day and I don’t have to blot or touch up. It also seems to smooth my lines.
I have oily/combo skin. This is my HG. There is a watery finish for drier skin types.
I have one bottle I’m currently almost done with and 4 backups

I hoped this would be as good as many reviews have said but this dries out my mid-50s skin and leaves a matte white cast. It is just too drying. I have had better luck with Purito Centella Green Level unscented which is probably the closest I will ever find to being HG.

I’ve been using this for about 7 weeks now and I think it is my new HG. It quickly dries down to a nice matte finish while not drying out my skin. There is a slight white cast but not enough to bother me if I wore it without makeup (however, I am quite pale now). It goes great under makeup, though, which is usually how I wear it. I can see how this might be drying to some, however I also use EH Soon Jung pH 5.5 Relief Toner (another HG) with a moisturizer on top (either the EH SJ emulsion or TJ’s oil-free) and I’m good to go. I think this has really upped my skincare game this summer and my complexion is the best it has been in quite a few years (still a long way to go). I credit some of that to the toner/moisturizer and consistent use of Differin, though… a seriously game changing set of products for me.

Very tenacious and hard to wash off.It accentuates my dry lines and wrinkles. After a couple hours it makes me even dryer, even with serum, moisturizer and face oil underneath. I use this for my tattoos on my arm and my chest/neck. If I’m at the beach or swimming, running outside, ill use this because its bulletproof. For daily use its too hard to wash off unless you double cleanse with oil first. Love physical sunscreens but this one is a bit too tough for me.

HG summer sunscreen for face. Love that this is a mineral sunscreen with a light, non-greasy texture. I am fairly pale, so i do not notice a white cast but darker skins might differ. I buy this easily off of Amazon. It’s always been moderately priced. I’ve recommend and given away bottles of this because I’m such a believer of it. I do wish that the brand was cruelty free but that just isn’t often the case with most Asain brands given the likelihood of distribution in greater China. I do wear other sunscreens in winter as I need a more moisturizering formula then, but this is suitable in warmer months with or without moisturizer underneath. Highly recommended and a definite repurchase for me.

I really wanted to love this! The texture is beautiful: not thick or greasy, slightly mattifying, didn’t leave a white cast. I’m not in love with the scent, but I can deal with it: it smells like really strong lemon and vodka to me (and I hate vodka). I’d prefer a mojito, thank you very much. 😉
Anyhow, I used Etude House Sunprise on my face, neck, chest, and arms every day for 1 week. I developed dozens of teeny tiny white bumps on my upper lip and chin, and my arms broke out in a rash. I’m not 100% sure, but I think I’m reacting to the zinc oxide? I’ve had trouble with zinc oxide in mineral foundations in the past.
Really a shame, because otherwise this is a fantastic sunscreen.
EDIT: I’m now using Missha All Around Safe Block Soft Finish Sun Milk, and my skin is happier!

This is an HG for me. I used Biore UV Perfect Face Milk for years and loved the protection and mattifying effect, but it dried me out like crazy. For reference I have verrry clog-prone, dry, sensitive skin. This sunscreen isn’t dehydrating at all, leaves a nice natural (not too matte) sheen, no white cast and no breakouts! I’ve been using it for about six months and I’ll continue to repurchase.

Beware if you are sensitive to citrus oils. This is loaded with citrus oils and extracts and the sunscreen makes my skin even more photosensitive which is obviously a dealbreaker when it comes to sunscreens. It would be perfect for my oily skin if it weren’t for these particular ingredients.

This mineral sunscreen costs $13.49 on Amazon.com and comes with 1.85 ounces of product or 55 ml. The bottle is simple! You just screw off the cap and there is a nozzle to squeeze the product out. I like to shake the bottle before opening to make sure everything is well-mixed. The texture of this product is so wonderful because it is so thin. It is very liquid-like and absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving a white cast. Many reviews say this is very good for oily skin, and I would have to agree. For some reason, it has a bit of a mattifying property to it, and this will be ideal in spring and summer when you need sun protection and need to keep the oil away. For those who are sensitive to scents, you might like this because the hint of citrus goes away after applying. This is not a thick sunscreen which means that it will be completely necessary to apply a light moisturizer underneath. If you don’t moisturize, your skin might actually look a bit dry. I find that this sunscreen also sits beautifully under makeup and does not cause any separation or dry patches for my oily/combination skin. Overall, this affordable sunscreen has been absolutely wonderful, and I would totally buy it again and again.
