I generally am a fan of PC products however this sunscreen moisturiser is a fail for me. It comes out in a thick, white cream and has a mild cucumber scent. I really have to blend & work it into my skin otherwise it leaves white patches. I have very pale skin so I would imagine this would be extremely annoying for darker skin tones!
The most bizarre thing about this moisturiser is that my dry/combo skin is left feeling tight and flaky, yet covered in a shiny, greasy film. It’s as if my skin doesn’t absorb the hydrating ingredients at all! It just ‘sits’ on top of my skin which feels rather unpleasant.
I live in rainy/grey Northern Ireland so I cannot comment on how affective the actual SPF is right now lol. If I apply makeup on top, I end up with flaky skin around my nose and chin. I usually have to apply the Skin recovery super antioxidant serum if I plan on putting on foundation & blush etc…
Overall, the Skin Recovery day moisturiser doesn’t work with my skin at all! I definitely recommend seeking out a few samples before purchasing full size. I have been trying out the Skin Balancing SPF moisturiser with good results so fingers crossed 🙂
To PC: Why the heck do you not sell the Moisture Boost or Hydralight range in the UK or EU??!! I would LOVE to try both those ranges!!

I have allergies to chemical sunscreens so I’m limited on my choices. I feel that it performed well and didn’t cause any reactions for me. I used it three times. It’s also very hydrating. Maybe a little too hydrating? I used it on a makeup free day at the beach so I can’t say how it would perform under makeup. IME moisturizers that are this greasy don’t work well under foundation, but again, I can’t say for sure. I was at the beach all day and didn’t burn, which is saying a lot for my sun sensitive skin. Also, it didn’t leave a white cast which a lot of mineral sunscreens do. Next spring I will buy a tube to get me through the pool and beach days during our long summers.

I have been wearing this nearly every day for a month. My skin was reacting to a lot of things so I thought to wear this. It was hydrating and I could deal with the hydrating but slightly sticky finish because it went on like lotion. It works ok under makeup after an extended dry down.
But after a month I noticed I was sporting some freckles all over my face. I walk several miles daily but i wear a hat with UPF and this sunscreen daily with SPF 30. I am usually out 45 minutes. This sunscreen is not giving me enough protection and I am applying enough. I am really PO’d about this. I was counting on an SPF 30, plus I am wearing a hat. So I guess there is really not enough titanium and zinc in this sunscreen? Now I am doubting all of Paula Choice’s sunscreens because I had a similar reaction to her spray sunscreen. I got a sunburn with that.

I thought that this would be a good product. Boy was I wrong! I use the skin recovery mask, serum and moisturizer but this sunscreen really aggravated my skin. First I tried using it on my face. Made me itchy and red. Put it aside after 2 different attempts…one with serum underneath and one just alone after cleansing. Many days later I thought I’d just use this on my decollete are and the tops of my shoulders while running. Boy this was a huge mistake. Mid run I was rubbing at my neck. When I got home my neck was red and splotchy. I showered and cleaned this off. Later that night I had to use cortisone cream because the redness and itchy did not fade. Two days later still recovering from this. I do not know what was so different in this than the skin recovery mask, serum, moisturizer or her hydralight mineral sunscreen. I usually never have a reaction with physical sunscreens but this was not for me. I’m returning this hopefully because if not it is going in the trash…big thumbs down 🙁

This product (along with the AHA and BHA) were among my first purchases from Paula’s Choice. So far, it’s been a mixed bag. I’ve been using this product since mid-April and I’m not really all that impressed with it for several reasons.
As someone with dry skin, I tend to like sunscreens that can be a little more moisturizing and multitask as both a daytime moisturizer and sunscreen. While this is fairly moisturizing, it also makes your skin look greasy if you wear it alone and even under makeup (though, I have not had an issue of it affecting the longevity of it.) It is a physical sunscreen and does give a very slight white cast for several minutes before disappearing.
The product itself comes in a squeeze tube–which is one of the most obnoxiously packaged items I’ve come across. Not only does the sunscreen, over time, create a film and collect around the rim, it’s a fairly wasteful amount of product that I’ve had to scrape off the sides.
Furthermore, this is not a sunscreen that will stick with you should you decide to exercise or be in humid/hot conditions. In even the slightest amount of sweat, I’ve had it run off my face. Although Paula’s Choice does not say it is waterproof (which I will note and give them adequate credit for), considering the fact that it is intended to be used in the sun, it makes me very hesitant to use it knowing if I sweat it will run off.
This being said, it is not the worst sunscreen I’ve ever used. It is available at $28/2 oz (though, Paula’s Choice does run regular sales so you may be able to get it for cheaper), which is less than some other mid-end brands. It also has a pleasant and light scent, though, some may not enjoy scented products, it’s one of the better smelling sunscreens I’ve come across. Still, I’ve had better success with some drugstore sunscreens that it’s obnoxious the “Cosmetic Cop” couldn’t bother to figure out a more efficacious formula.
I will not be repurchasing this particular sunscreen, but I would be willing to try others from the Paula’s Choice line.

– Moisturizing
– Physical sunscreen (for those that prefer physical over chemical)
– Cosmetically elegant (i.e. plays nice under makeup)
– Can be inexpensive compared to other mid-end brands at $28/2 oz.
– Available in sample form on Paula’s Choice website for $0.80
– Scent is light compared to other sunscreens
Cons:
– Leaves a greasy appearance
– Does not last in heat or through exercise (basically, anything where you may sweat)
– May cause flashback in photography because of the ingredients
– Packaging allows for product waste
– Does have a light scent (for those that do not prefer scented products)

My skin was a little dry so I thought I’d switch from my PC hydralight to the skin recovery spf instead but it was way, way too moisturizing for my face. I have combo skin and it made my skin super shiny and break out so would not recommend for anyone with similar skin. It makes a great but expensive hand spf cream ha ha.
Pros:
-would probably be great for someone who is not acne prone or lives in a harsh winter climate
-mineral spf, broad spectrum with great anti aging ingredients
-PC is always having sales so the price isn’t that bad
-no added fragrances
-no animal testing
Cons:
-hate the tube, I wish it was in a pump bottle

I avoid Paula’s choice products, except for last step, because all the silicones partially cover the akin, reducing surface area for subsequent products. Annoyingly, even the toners have them. But, in a sunblock applied last, they seal everything else in and keep skin moisturized. I give this a 4 mainly because it’s so hard to find sunblocks with just minerals (that don’t look super white). It goes on with no white cast (initially a tiny bit on damp skin but goes away in seconds, none on dry) and feels nice at first. But, my skin feels dry underneath as the day goes on unless I apply a TON of heavy moisturizer under. It looks nice, but feels dry. It might be okay alone for combo or oily skin though. For dry skin, it needs a lot under. I haven’t tried makeup on top, so will update when I do.

My review is for the new version or reformulation which is SPF 30, opposed to the old formulation which was SPF 15. I give this high marks for being SPF 30, since SPF 15 probably isn’t enough. While the skin recovery line is geared for sensitive skin this has some ingredients that could be bothersome. Like most of the skin recovery line I think there are comparable if not better products for less money. This has two active ingredients, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. A 2oz tube of this currently runs $24USD, which is a bit steep for sunscreen. I usually use Eucerin Daily Protection SPF 30 which costs around $10-12USD for four ounces and has 5 active ingredients, including titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. I would not repurchase as there are similar or better products for less money.
