I’m a big proponent of using sunscreen year-round and I’ve generally had good luck with Hawaiian Tropic sunscreens. I’m with Lady5andy–this is a good sunscreen for the most part (I’ve used it in several SPF levels), and I love the subtle shimmer, but the shimmer does go everywhere, which is annoying.
The most important thing when it comes to sunscreen is how well it works. This does seem to prevent me from getting burned (I’m fair and burn pretty easily). The shimmer makes it easy to see if I missed any spots, which is also a big plus. It rubs in relatively easily, although I do find that I have to work a little harder to get this on evenly than I do with other sunscreens.
The scent is the nice standard Hawaiian Tropic scent–that tropical coconut. No concerns there.
The shimmer is the one thing that I love and hate at the same time. It is relatively subtle and does give a nice sheen, but can appear over the top at times (I won’t use this on my face for sure) and the shimmer does transfer to EVERYTHING. It’s all over my purse and DH’s car (which he doesn’t love). It’s not easy to get off.
I like this, but prefer the non-shimmer version. I’ll probably stick with Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration, which has all of the things that I like about this without the shimmer residue.

I’m in the minority here but I’m not a fan of this sunscreen. I’m a fan of Hawaiian tropic products, but this is not my favorite. The shimmer are really apparent, and they also get everywhere in a yellow shimmery mess. If I put this sunscreen on my arms, the shimmer get on the window of the car, on the steering wheel, everywhere on the seat… they also get on my clothes and make yellow stain.
As far as the smell and the SPF goes, both are fine, do the job and smell great. I’m just not a fan of those shimmer that do not stay on the skin and get everywhere.

Love how Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen smells and the scent lasts on skin. The Shimmer Effect Sunscreen I got is SPF 30, perfect for everyday use in Summer. I used to use Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch, but now Shimmer Effect is my favorite sunscreen because it’s more fun to use. I carry it with me every day wherever I go. The golden colored mica in the product is extremely fine. It gives skin a natural glow instead of excessive sparkles. The texture of the sunscreen is light, creamy, non-greasy, and does not feel sticky on skin. So glad I found Hawaiian Tropic Shimmer Effect!

This is probably my favorite sunscreen ever. I got this before a recent trip to Jamaica and I’m so glad I chose this instead of a plain old regular sunscreen. I love shimmery body products, and this is soooo gorgeous! This is filled with bronzey gold shimmers that look so beautiful in the sun. It’s not at all garish, and the shimmer is very fine — no chunky glitter here. I think the color of the sparkle would look great no matter how fair or how dark you are. I love that I didn’t have to be very careful, and that the shimmer distributed really evenly all over my skin. It wasn’t at all splotchy. I already had a pretty deep tan going, so I got this in SPF 8 and it did a great job, since I never burned even with hopping in and out of the water. This has an awesome coconut smell that isn’t too strong. Also, this doesn’t feel heavy or sticky once it is rubbed in, and it doesn’t leave your skin with a white or grey cast like some sunscreens do. Two tips with this: Wash your hands after applying, unless you like glitter palms and you want shimmer on everything you touch. Also, do NOT apply this to your face. I didn’t, but I can just imagine that this would look ridiculous on the face since it is super shimmery.
I had to drop a lippie for two reasons, though. One is that this sunscreen is pretty thin and runny, so it is easy to squeeze out way too much. Even using just a small amount, it can take quite a while to rub in because it is so thin. Also, if you get wet from the pool, ocean, or sweat, this can collect in creases on your body (between fingers and toes, behind your knees, in the crook of your arm, and in between your boobs). This results in a big glob of shimmer in that place, which looks kind of gross and can be a little hard to rub off until you shower it off.
I’ve seen this at drugstores and Ulta for around $10 a bottle, but I noticed the brand tends to be on sale frequently, so check for that. I highly recommend this beautiful sunscreen — definitely check it out!

I got this in coconut papaya (green bottle) and now this one and I love this stuff. It has just enough shimmer not too much, not glittery, soaks into my skin well, has that coconut island smell and smells delicious, lasts all day and will def stock up on it to wear all year around, but most of all, it has SPF. This one also has more bronzer in it than the Coconut Papaya and I love the way my skin looks in the sun when I put it on and go out.

This sunscreen smells amazing and leaves a beautiful shimmer on your skin. I haven’t tried it on my face yet, so I don’t know how it would work there but it is great on the rest of my body.

I absolutely adore this sunscreen lotion!
I have my favorite sunscreen (Celazome) & my favorite shimmer lotion (Burt’s Bees), but this product combines both in one & its performance exceeded my expectations.
The shimmer is subtle & imperceptible in normal indoor light, so it’s not at all garish or obvious. In sunlight the skin gleams softly with a beautiful subtle bronzy sheen. Thankfully the mica particles aren’t an ugly shade of gilded yellow gold like Jergens lotion. Mica is a wonderful natural mineral shimmer.
The kicker that surprised me was that not only was the sunscreen waterproof through swimming (lasted all day @ the beach, 6 hrs) but also the glowy shimmer clung to my skin the whole day too. I assumed the shimmer would wash away as soon as the water touched my skin. It’s amazingly waterproof! And the lotion is thin & spreads easily (as opposed to Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch which is a thick paste). I love that the shimmer shows me where I applied it so I can avoid any unprotected spots. It feels good on the skin, looks amazing, absorbs in right away & like someone else said it’s not sticky.
As a bonafide shimmer nut, I ran around hunting this down. I love a nice shimmery glow on summer tan skin. I finally found this @ CVS for $11 & also bought the companion After Sun shimmer lotion too, which has a delicious tropical Coconut Papaya scent. Nothing but good things to say about these products (except the clunky packaging needs improvement).
These are definite re-buys & am going to go get backups!

The best sun block ever!!! I rarely get sunburned but I get sunspots if I don’t wear it so I have to. I would hate wearing sunblock because it makes my skin a dull gray color.This sun screen doesn’t do that. I love wearing this stuff! It makes my skin sparkle and glow. I love,love it!

I don’t have anything new to contribute that other reviewers haven’t already said about this, but I loved it so much, I wanted to review. The one thing I would add is that because it’s such a subtle effect, I will likely wear it all year, and although I always wear sunscreen on my face, I generally just use plain old lotion on my bod…so this could be the product that gets me to use sunscreen every day. Kuddos to HT for that!

Once again a Hawaiian Tropic Lotion has not failed me :). The Shimmer Effects Lotion is currently one of my favourites to use during the day time. I love the glowing look it gives my tanned legs. I also love how it does not feel sticky; feels like you are wearing nothing at all.
