Neutrogena Pure & Free Liquid Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 used to be my go-to sunscreen. After noticing it was missing from Neutrogena’s website, I called the company. The rep told me that it has just been rebranded under this product, “Sensitive Skin Face Liquid Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50”. She said the formula is identical. As I am careful about ingredients, I checked this, and it’s not quite true, though they are very similar (more about ingredients below) . The suggested RP of $12.99 for 1.4 oz is similar to the PF Liquid. The bottle is identical, with the same (excellent) locking lid and pinhole size dispenser.
This is very similar to the Pure & Free liquid. It seems a touch thinner in consistency. As with the old OF liquid, this has a runny liquid consistency and is easy for me to distribute, though it takes a little time to get it even. It also rubs off much easier than the other mineral sunscreen I use, Neutrogena Baby (a very stiff, thick, slightly greasy product). The finish of this on my skin is not totally matte, nor too shiny.
It causes little or no irrition for me around my eyes/eyelids (with the old PF liquid only being minorly irritating).
The bluish-white caste (due to the mineral actives) is still there. As with the Pure & Free Liquid, I have to use a liquid spf tint or a yellow/tinted powder with this since I have yellow undertones in my skin.
As far as being clogging or contributing to issues with my acne prone skin, it doesn’t seem to as much harm as other sunscreens. I find that Neutrogena’s chemical sunscreens (such as their Clear Face spf 55) break me out in large bumps and even sometimes zits, and always within 1-2 days. I haven’t seen the same pattern with the two mineral SPFs I use (which is why I put up with the unnatural white cast).

Ingredient Comparison: Sensitive Skin Liquid spf 50 -vs- Pure & Free Liquid spf 50
-The active ingredients are MINIMALLY different in percentages. Pure & Free liquid SPF 50 has Titanium Dioxide 5%, Zinc Oxide 3%. Sensitive Skin Liquid SPF 50 has Titanium Dioxide 4.9%, Zinc Oxide 2.9%
– The new Sensitive Skin Liquid Formula has 2 new ingredients: Aluminum Hydroxide and Stearic Acid ( towards the end of the ingredient list)
– The rest of the ingredients match up though are in a slightly different order in a few cases. (That means the percentages changed slightly.) The old product had Dimethicone fourth in the ingredient list, this product has it listed as the third
