I agree with Jojobe’s review below. I have been through two full tubes of SPF40 tinted. I started on this when my skin freaked out and it was recommended by my dermatologist. This got me back on track. If I had to pick one issue with it — I wish it was a little creamier upon application. It can feel like you’re dragging your skin to apply it. This is really just looking for something to complain about. Overall, this is an excellent option especially if you’re sensitive or going through issues with your skin. Would gladly repurchase.

I have extremely eczema prone skin, so I’m constantly on the lookout for a product that hits the following marks:
1. Physical sunscreen only
2. No fragrance, parfum, perfume
3. No lanolin
4. No herbal extracts
5. Decent coverage
6. No white glare or overly sunscreen-y smell
8. Hold up to REAL heat/humidity (Southeast USA. 100+ degrees and 90% humidity in summer)
If you’ve ever tried to find something that hits all of those marks, you’ll understand why I love this product. It protects my skin, doesn’t cause an allergy or eczema flare (even around my eyes!), and evens out my skin enough that I don’t feel the need to add on foundation. I just use this stuff and concealer.
It does come out of the tube a startling shade of tan, but I found that it does blend nicely into my fairly porcelain skin tone. It won’t cover freckles or acne, but I’m not really that bothered by my actual real skin showing through my base. I just want that sweet physical SPF without the bright shining white glare! I’ve already bought my second tube.

Where has this stuff been all my life. My skin has been getting less acne prone as I get older and can go without foundation but tinted moisturizers are too light. This is a tinted moisturizer but it has a good amount of color, more like a BB or CC really. I love how I have SPF and color at the same time. Perfect for that primer/ spf/ color dilemma I always have.

The color is okay as a primer. It’s far too light not to cover up with something, and it makes my foundation get lighter as the day goes on. The worst thing about this cream is that it’s GREASY. I shake it like crazy before I put it on, and it still separates. It’s literally a blend of silicones, with nothing to dilute their concentration. except aluminum oxide and sunscreens. Maybe mine melted or something…it gets hot here.

Natural-Tinted version: much darker and more brown than my go to Missha Perfect BB Bright Beige. Slightly stiff in texture and hard to rub in.

I’ve received a packet of samples from Ulta and between them was a few the CoTZ sunscreens (Sensitive, Natural Skin & Flawless Complexion). I’ve trying the Titanium Dioxide sunscreens, and they are great but they give me a white cast, that no matter how much you rub it won’t go away.
What I liked about this product was that it did not leave my skin feeling greasy, or shiny, and no funky smell, also it works perfectly, and it did protect my skin from the harsh tropical Central American sun. But that is where it ends.
The tint of this product for me, it did look a bit off, maybe someone with medium skin, it might work. Maybe the ‘lighter skin tone’ works better. But also this product only gives you 1.5oz for 20usd! For daily use, that is super expensive, and not worth it. For that I can get a Korean BB or CC cream with the same SPF and more matching to my skin, and maybe even for less money.

I bought this product – CoTZ SPF 40 for “natural” skin-tone – at Ulta some days ago. I chose this one over their “Lighter” skin-tone version because I do like a bit of tint to even out my skin tone and act as a light foundation. Unfortunately, the color is MUCH too dark & orange on my skin. My skin is very light but with a yellow undertone, I have large pores with melasma/freckling/sun-damage. So I decided to go back to Ulta & buy their light-skin version of this sunscreen – which is totally un-tinted – so I can mix a blob of this one into that one thereby creating the right shade for my skin. I looked at the ingredient list and they are identical except for the inclusion of the brown iron-oxides in this “Natural-Skin” version, so mixing them will not be a problem.
The mixing went fine, I was able to achieve a nice intermediate color by mixing the “Natural” with the “Lighter skin” version. The product comes out in a whipped, rather thick/substantial mousse texture. Sounds nice, right? Well…it acts on skin like wood putty. The formula is totally water-less, it has tons of silicones and it is just like wood putty being spread around your face, a very strange texture & finish. I found it difficult to apply to a very smooth finish without it balling up in dry, putty balls due to the amount of rubbing that I needed to get it smooth. The finish is very matte due to the silicone formula – you will NOT need to powder over this to combat shine – but again, I personally found it hard to apply it to be totally smooth as it wants to ball up a bit and it will emphasize and collect on any dry or flaky areas. Strange stuff. I can say it’s the oddest sunscreen I’ve ever tried, but could be a miracle product for someone looking for a matte, physical sunscreen.
I do think they should have an accurate color swatch somewhere on the box to indicate how dark the “Natural” version truly is.
Finally, remember everyone: To get the stated SPF, you need to apply approx. 1/4 tsp. for face & another 1/4 tsp to neck. “Pea sized amount” is fine for a moisturizer, but that is not the correct measurement for a sunscreen.

I’m rating this a 5 because it’s not the products fault I wear makeup. This is what’s up…I fell in love with this sunscreen after trying a few samples of the entire range. It evens out my skin tone, has an SPF 40, broad spectrum, and it’s a physical sunscreen. It has a mousse-primer-like consistency. Not like lotion at all, which I’m sure a lot of us are used to, and it has a natural looking tint that didn’t look weird on me, even though it looks like it’ll apply pink/grey (NC20/BB Warm Sand for reference). I just finished up a tube and I’m sad to see it go but I want to start wearing foundation full-time again. On its own, this looks and feels lovely but underneath foundation, I just felt it was a bit much. I hate feeling like I’m wearing too many layers and this is why I don’t wear primers. I just can’t be bothered. I love to wear foundation (also a job requirement lol), but prefer something lighter with a bit more slip to wear underneath. Perhaps I should blame this heat. This summer was disgustingly hot (still is here in SoCal) and I felt like wearing nothing at all! Overall, this sunscreen is great! I felt confident knowing I’m getting good sun protection. I’ll definitely repurchase after I finish up other products. I’m on a low-buy 😉

I love this sunscreen. It gives a nice blur and is great as a primer. My favorite is to mix with Cover fx custom cover drops. It has a mouse consistency like the Tarte amazonion clay foundation. It has a matte finish which is great for my combo oily skin.

I absolutely love this! As the other reviewers have stated, I also received this as a sample from Ulta and immediately bought a full tube. This does look dark when you squeeze it out of the tube, but once you put it on it just melds right onto your skin. I have Irish skin, but I usually go with the second, third, and occasionally fourth lightest color in any foundation range. I don’t have super pale skin, mainly because of the ruddiness in my complexion. If you are someone who usually goes with the lightest and maybe even the second lightest shade of a foundation range, then I would go with the formula made for lighter skin tones. I love how this sets into a nice, soft, matte finish. I believe this is due to the silicones, and I personally like this texture. It definitely gives a nice blur effect and it is made to go under makeup or worn alone. I feel it would cancel out the need for a foundation primer 100%. It does stay on the face well, even in hot, humid weather (Tennessee summer). I have pretty normal skin at age 40 with occasional zits and occasional dryness, but this does not seem to upset my skin at all. Ulta had this on sale for $15 for a 1.5 oz. tube. It’s normally $20. I feel it will last quite a while since you don’t need that much to adequately cover your face.
