Well, I don’t know if I just happened to never get any tubes from the time period in which they first apparently changed the formulation on this product, of if I just have a very different experience from everyone else for some other reason, but this sunscreen is really good on me. Occasionally I will get a little white flake of the sort that you just get when you use a physical sunblock, but it’s negligible in comparison to the flakes or pills I’ve gotten with every other mineral sunblock I’ve tried. This has a very, very slight typical zinc oxide cast in the first couple of seconds of application, but the product immediately absorbs and the white case instantly fades. This product absorbs / dries down to feeling like just another moisturizer on me. It doesn’t have that awful thick feeling – or greasy appearance – that I get with Badger, Goddess Garden, or any of those other mineral sunblocks. It does actually moisturize. It doesn’t break me out. I can wear it over another product, if I choose to (Lush Celestial moisturizer, Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot solution, or Kiehl’s Iris Essence.) I do not wear foundation, so I can’t speak to that. My blushes (creams and powders) and powders (Clinique loose powder or Milani Multitasker pressed face powder) also work fine with it.
I have found that I can get a little color with this if I’m out all day and don’t reapply. You’re supposed to reapply any sunscreen every 80 mins. – 2 hours. I rarely do, and it’s a good question, why that is the case with this sunblock, as it’s the only one that I don’t imagine clogging my skin if I were to do so. Something to ponder…
Anyway, I’m not sure why my experience is so different to everyone else’s, I do order this online, and usually purchase two tubes at a time, so I’m not skimping on my applications, and so that I can get my purchase total up to enough to qualify for free shipping. Maybe I just missed the time period between “the old formula” that everyone liked, and an improvement on “the new formula”, and just missed the period in which they had not refined the formula using the changed zinc from their supplier. I don’t know. But I don’t have any – any – of the problems that others are mentioning here. I would still suggest giving this a try, and just making sure to get it from a place that will give you a refund if you’re not happy with your purchase. My only other hesitation would be if you have really oily skin, as I wonder if mineral sunblock, by it’s nature, would cause acne-prone people to break out. I don’t have acne, so I don’t really know about that. Just a thought.

This is some of the worst sunscreen I have ever used. First of all, my fair skin burned after wearing it. Secondly, it caused me to break out after three days. I ended up throwing it away. It did not protect my skin from the sun. Would never buy again.

Devita sun creams are usually in the recommended list for people with sensitive skin who prefer to use natural products. I have very sensitive skin and can not tolerate chemical sunscreens. Not only do I have severe rashes frequently but also I would have dry mouth and difficulty swallowing when I try chemical sunscreens. I had high hopes for this suncream and liked the fact that it had moisturising ingredients although I have worries about the possible estrogenic effects of aloe vera. ( I have endometriosis and try to avoid most estrogenic ingredients in my skin care and food including natural substances and essential oils). It did moisturise my skin and didn’t cause a rash which was great but I got sun burnt using it while on a short vacation in May. I have light olive skin and rarely ever got sun burnt in my life even without sunscreen so that was a shock! My husband who has fair skin but doesn’t get sun burnt easily either by using other products also suffered terrible sun burn! In my opinion Devita Solar does not perform well at all as sunscreen. It hydrates a little and may not cause reactions for sensitive types but does not protect the sun either. I gave it two lippies only because it didn’t cause me a sever reaction, considering I react to most sun creams. I would not buy this again. I would caution anyone, especially people with fair skin to put their trust into this sunscreen.

I bought this because I was looking for a lightweight, daily spf to use on my face under my makeup. The packaging is lovely: simple, clean design; pleasantly pliant squeezy tube that has that sort of velvety feel to the plastic; securely lid with a flip cap. When you squeeze out the product, it comes out as a regular white cream, but you can tell it’s more light and whippy, not dense/heavy.
This has a very lightweight, refreshing feel when you spread it on the skin. It goes on white, but once you work it in, it becomes virtually clear. It’s not greasy or sticky, and is the closest to a bare feeling I’ve ever gotten from a sunscreen. HOWEVER this product balls up like crazy. No matter how I’ve tried to apply it (and I’ve tried numerous ways), I always end up with flakes of the product all over my face. They’ll be in my eyebrows, in my hairline… If I dare to smooth my hand over my face, that velvety-matte smoothness turns into flaky sheets of product rolling off of my face. Not only is it annoying and messy to clean up, but how effective can the sunscreen be if the product rolls up and flakes off?
Oddly enough, it doesn’t do this when I use it on my body, and I’m not really sure why. Regardless, I’m using this up as a body sunscreen right now and won’t repurchase.
(FWIW: I tried 2 different lot numbers of this sunscreen, as the CS representative told me my first tube was before the reformulation and that’s why it was balling up. The second/post-reformulation tube that she sent me did the same thing, so I think this is a long-term issue for this product.)

I really wanted this sunscreen to be my HG because it’s affordable and I like that it contains a high amount of zinc oxide. I even love the texture and smell of the product. Unfortunately, I can’t stand how the product balls up when I apply it; it’s annoying to have little white specks of the cream on my face. If they ever reformulate and get rid of this problem, I would gladly try it again.

I found this sunscreen about 6 months back. I had been looking for a sunscreen with a natural blocking agent rather than chemical. So many products with zinc oxide left this nasty residue on my skin though. Devita on the other hand rubs in so smooth and feels like a moisturizer. I feel like I have finally found a natural blocking sunscreen that feels as good as a chemical blocking one. If you don’t know, chemical blocking sunscreens actually release free radicals in to your skin and should be avoided. When it comes to a physical blocking sunscreen, I think this one is the best!

I agree with the last reviewer. I took a chance buying this rather pricey sunscreen based on the positive reviews that a new improved formula with different zinc was out. I contacted the manufacturer to ask and never got a response. Should have known by the non-response not to buy it but went ahead and bought it online since everyone locally was sold out of it. What a waste of money. I cannot return. This stuff has little hard balls that randomly are mixed through the product. It sticks white beads and little sticky chunks in certain areas and won’t blend or sink in in those areas. The white gunk is very unattractive where it shows, especially around eyebrows and hairline. Where it blends in smoothly, it looks fairly natural but the product is 1) not moisturizing AT ALL, it is actually rather drying and I do NOT have dry skin and 2) the rather rough and dry texture makes it very ill suited to any liquid makeup application.
It made my skin look much older and accentuated wrinkles I honestly didn’t even know I had! UGH. It also collects in pores and puts white globs in them. Not attractive. I have given this a couple of tries and it failed miserably each time. I wish I had not wasted my money. If anyone knows of a better sunscreen that is aluminum-free and wears well under makeup, please message me. Thank you!

I used this product for years and absolutely LOVED it. About a year ago they changed the formula and it had tiny beads that showed on my face and lumps. They tried to improve upon that, but it is not nearly as nice as it used to be. It is not as moisturizing and looks white on my face. What product are the other reviewers reviewing? The 2013 version or the older version? When they changed the type of zinc they were using I had to stop using it, but can’t find a replacement.

I’m quite surprised this got such bad reviews. I live in Bali and the sun here is STRONG, add humidity and oily skin and it starts getting hard to get a good non-greasy sunblock.
Devita dries to completely matte finish, spreads well and does NOT leave any white cast. It even feels like me and the other reviewers used a different product.
If I use other sunscreen I can’t wear most liquid foundations as I start shining, but with this stuff I feel like the oils are under control.
My boyfriend loved the sunblock too, he said it feels natural and light on the skin.

I bought this sunscreen based on the recommendation of some natural skin youtube “guru.” This was back when the formulation haven’t changed yet. They did warn of the new formulation change and I took a bet and bought it hoping it was the older formulation. Nope!
The new formula is hard to work with. It will peel when dried. It feels like those asian brand gentle peeling exfoliators. It felt like a waste of money if I tossed it. So I tried to work with it by spraying my face with george’s aloe spray (or any toner/water) and while a little wet put on this sunscreen moisturizer. It does help the application a bit, but still far from perfect. It does dry down nicely and doesn’t leave my face oily since I have oily skin. But I can’t put up the extra step of application process just for this. Putting makeup on will also peel the sunscreen moisturizer off too. It’s just too fussy to work.
