I have light brown un-dyed wavy hair, cut just above shoulder length. I use this product both on wash day after squish-to-condish and on second day hair dampened with a spray bottle of water. I also use plain aloe vera as a leave-in conditioner every day. I apply the gel after my aloe, using praying hands method, then lots of scrunching, and let my hair air-dry. Once dry, I scrunch it again with my hands to break up the crunchies. For me, the result is that my 2B waves look more like 3A curls, and my hair is way shinier than it has ever been, with great hold but still soft. I also find that this gel does not result in a lot of build-up. I agree that the scent is reminiscent of fabric softener, but I don’t find it too strong and it mostly dissipates after it dries. I’ve recently been on a gauntlet of hair product testing and it certainly has less scent than most salon products.
I would highly recommend this to others with hair similar to mine, used in combination with other curly girl methods. It won’t solve all your problems on its own, but is a great addition to a curly routine.

Edit 9/15/17: I am doing a mass return to Kroger on all the new products I bought that aren’t CG. I am CG again. This is the only Miss Jessie’s product that is CG.

Original review:
This smells great & has cute packaging. I’m also using MJs Pillow Soft Curls w good results together. My hair feels voluminous, waves to boot, shiny. I don’t have super curly hair so waves for me are a good thing! It’s not crunchy won’t leave much of a cast. A good gel. #winning

I have semi-fine 2b hair. I purchased this product because I have naturally wavy hair & I am on the road to no longer relaxing my hair.
The cost kept me from purchasing at first but I found it a few $$ cheaper on eBay.
The smell is great, reminds me of baby powder! However, I’m not going continue using this. It is great & I’ve recommended it to a couple of friends. It is just too heavy for my hair. Holds curl very well but at this stage of my hair journey it’s too thick.
I’m going to keep this tube & when my hair thickens up I will definitely return to it.

For reference, I have 3a/3b curls and am still figuring out how best to manage my hair. I picked up Miss Jessie’s Jelly Soft Curls last year, when I was a couple months into trying the curly girl method (which I don’t really follow anymore, but have definitely learned from); the promise of hold without crunch was the main reason I decided to give it a shot.
The packaging is visually appealing and practical for a hair gel, a bright pink squeeze bottle covered in plain text, though the small text that covers most of the bottle might be difficult or just plain irritating for some people. The promises they’re making for the product are larger and easier to read than the description, though, and the ingredients list is in relatively large, plain lettering, which is definitely nice.
The gel itself is thick and clear, and smells VERY strongly of fabric softener. I’m not particularly sensitive to scent, but it still initially bothered me; I couldn’t help but imagine putting actual fabric softener in my hair–NOT a comfortable thought, and something it took me a while to get used to. I cannot imagine somebody who IS sensitive to scent wanting to go near this product at all.
When I first tried it, it barely seemed to do anything to my hair; my curls were more defined than if I used no styling product at all, but it frizzed out of control so much and so quickly, it seemed almost pointless. HOWEVER, I gave it a shot again this month after adding coconut oil to my hair routine after conditioning. Now that my hair is MUCH better moisturized, I’ve found that this product leaves my curls defined but soft, with little frizz throughout the day.
Unfortunately, I’m afraid I won’t be repurchasing this product. Researching the Miss Jessie’s brand, and hair products in general, led me to take a closer look at the ingredients. Jelly Soft Curls has a reassuringly short ingredients list with no particularly alarming ingredients, but it also doesn’t really seem to have any particularly beneficial ingredients in it either. The Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie from Shea Moisture gives me the exact same results using ingredients that I recognize and know are good for my hair, and is even a smidge cheaper for a bit more product.
Basically, this product works well, but it’s probably not going to mask any problems you have with your hair (unlike products with silicones I’ve used) or do anything to help remedy them (like products with moisturizing and protecting ingredients would). To get the best out of it, you’ll want your hair to already be as healthy as possible. I’d certainly recommend it to someone looking for something style their curls, especially if they were looking to skip out on crunchy curls or non-soluble silicones, but it wouldn’t be the first thing I’d recommend. I’m not sure I’d recommend it at all to someone who’s also focused on restoring the health of their hair, and I definitely would not recommend it to somebody sensitive to strong scents.

I have wavy/curly very porous hair and I wanted to try going back to gels and I while I was browsing in Meijer this caught my eyes. I was skeptical and kept the receipt just in case, but I ended up really loving this product. I only put about a quarter size amount in my hand and I have lots and lots of hair but it seemed like that was the perfect amount. This left my curls very defined and shiny and I really likes the smell as well!

I loved the smell of this product and the hold. I applied this to wet hair and I thought it wouldn’t end well because it was difficult to get an even application, when going on it seemed to coat the hair and make It feel tacky. I diffused and it turned out so soft and well defined! I loved the results. I would repurchase regularly if it was cheaper.

Didn’t like this at all… I had such high hopes for this as well.. First off it smells like dish detergent.. I didn’t like that. It feels very soft to the touch so I thought it would be great.. Let me specify by saying a have wavy hair that with the right products can be very curly. It is chemically processed also. This product provided absolutely NO definition & made my hair a dry frizzy mess. I wouldn’t recommend this.
