I have naturally curly 3a hair and this product is just awful for it! The product itself is strange. I expected it to be the light, airy “whipped cream” consistency other mousses have. Upon pumping about half a palm-ful into my hand, a watery substance spilled over my slightly cupped hand then frothed in to a “foamed milk” type mess. I rubbed my hands together and felt sticky. I scrunched it into still damp, towel dried hair and noticed my hair sticking to my hands a great deal. Every time I scrunched, The strands became more separated and instead of tight, winding curls, I ended up with a frizzy sticky mess. Also, when scrunching, I noticed that is doesn’t help curl the hair but it, “bends” it. I also noticed that it made my hair crunchy. What a disaster!!

This product is great for when I want to wear my hair down in a wavy/curly style.
I’ve been using this product since Nov 2010, and I love it. This is the first time since middle school that I can wear my hair down all day and trust that it’s not frizzing out, looks okay, and doesn’t get in my way. Is my hair soft and wavy? Not really, but it looks nice enough and absolutely defines my curls and waves. I get positive comments on my hair regularly now. I was using the Moroccan Oil Cream, but that doesn’t compare when it comes to reducing frizz.
Negatives:
– A friend suggested this to me, but she recently stopped using it because she thinks her hair has been feeling dry. I haven’t had this problem at all.
– If I put on too much, my hair can get a bit crunchy, but I haven’t used too much since back in November when I first started using it.
– It’s not soft to touch curls.
Positives:
– Easy to do my hair. I put it in my hair after a shower, brush it through my hair, then head to work letting my hair air dry. While it’s still wet, I will “lift” my hair off my scalp to keep it from being flat. That’s it.
– The second day after applying the mousse I can still easily wear my hair down again (without washing), though the frizzing starts a wee bit (from sleeping on it) so I have to wear a clip to keep it off my face.
I think that part of the reason I give it 5 lipsticks is because it’s soooo cheap compared with the other products I’ve used ($5 versus the $30-$40 of Bumble and Bumble or Moroccan Oil). If this were more expensive ($15+) I’d only give it 4 lipsticks.

Update 4/26/12: I changed to 4 lipsticks because I started using another product (DevaCurl Styling Cream) and I found that my hair is much softer/touchable with the styling cream over this mousse. This product is still okay and I’d get it in a pinch because I do enjoy the low price (the extra star is still for the cost)… Another thing, now that I’ve been using the DevaCurl styling cream, I think my hair looks shinier.
I changed the packaging quadity to a 3 because on the last 2 cans that I used, the top dispenser piece cracked off when I went on vacations (didn’t hold up to being tossed around in luggage, the cap fell off both times). . I could jimmy the thing back in place and get it to work, but I think it was annoying that I had to be careful when I used it.

So, I have naturally short, thick curly hair that I like to spiral. I used this as a supplement to my LA Looks Curl Gel and it is great, just not for regular use. It is sticky, and doesn’t define well if you want those crazy spirals [like I do]. I would reccomend this though, if you want sort of loose, messy waves. If you like big, spirals like me, buy this in the mini section and scrunch it in before going out at night or through out the day- it’s a great touch up product!
3 lippies because it’s not a great one-product if you want crazy curls, but it’s great for touchups and looser waves
