For reference, I have thick, slightly wavy hair, somewhat coarse.
First, let me say that this product does what it claims to do. It does give you that texturized effect to your hair. It does make your hair very, very matte. I think this worked best when I sprayed this in my hair, let it dry a bit, and then threw in some waves with either my rollers or my curling iron. Shake your curls out a bit,and your hair looks awesome. I always got compliments on my hair.
That being said, this product is very, very drying. So drying, in fact, that I think it actually did legit damage to my hair. It stripped out all of the moisture in my hair. The next day, after using this product, my hair would be very dry, almost unmanageable. It took work to be able to comb through my hair. I tried to manage this by adding oils or serums, detanglers, etc. All of these things helped, but the effect wasn’t worth it for the damage this product did to my hair. To women with dry or damaged hair: a word of caution when using this product. In fact, I would urge you to just stay away from it completely.

I really love the smell of this, and it provides impressive volume. I’m not crazy about the matte look, but it does what it claims to do. I’d repurchase this.

I was really not a fan of this spray. I realize that it may not be aimed at my hair type, however. I have long, thick, very straight hair. My hair has no real natural wave or curl to it whatsoever, it’s pretty stick-straight naturally. I used this on my dry hair, on my wet hair, on dirty hair, on freshly-washed hair, with a hairdryer (with diffuser and without), and also tried air-drying. In other words, I tested this in a variety of ways, but the results were pretty much the same: meh.
Pros:
– It does add texture.
– It does add volume.
– I imagine that if you have some natural curl, wave, or any sort of bend to your hair, this would probably work much better for you than it did for me.
Cons:
– Drying as all get out. Really, really drying on freshly washed, damp hair (which is the state that the directions say your hair should be in, so this is really not good!).
– Though it adds texture, I also found that it made my hair frizzy as well as dry. Again, my hair is REALLY straight, so frizz is usually not an issue (if anything, it’s lack of volume that’s a problem for me).
– The packaging is weird! I don’t know what happened, if I got a bum bottle or something, but one night the nozzle on it just totally stopped working. The next day it worked okay, but for some reason, it alternates between working and not working. I have no idea why this is!
– The lack of alcohol might be a good thing for some people, but alcohol is what gives you hold, and this didn’t hold that well either.
You could, theoretically, use this as a hairspray, but none of the hairsprays I have owned have been as drying and irritating to use as this, at least in my experience. So if you have straight, thick hair like I do, I would avoid this. If your hair is already wavy, curly, or you have the time and patience to make it that way prior to using this (which, for me, defeats the purpose of this product!), then this may be a good choice for you. It’s definitely not the lazy-person styling product I was hoping for!

I really like this spray. I have some natural wave in my hair, and I bought this to enhance it; which it does! I braid my dry hair and spray this all over my braid and then when I wake up I have beautifully defined waves! This doesn’t leave my hair feeling sticky or crunchy. I would repurchase/recommend to anyone.

So i liked everything about this product except the smell. It was way to strong for me, but i guess some people might like it. It doesnt dry out my hair, but my hair is pretty oily and greasy anyway so i wouldnt exactly mind. But the first mistake i made was just scrunching it. I put it in on dry hair, and yes, it does work better on wet hair. So i put it in dry, and scrunched it and like nothimg happened except for a bit of texture. I WANTED CURLS. So the next night, i sprayed my hair with a bit of water so it was like 30% damp, and sprayed in lots of product since my hair doesn’t hold any non heat hairstyles very well. Then i split my hair in two and did that rope braid thing on my hair and slept on it. The next morning, i had gorgeous twisted beachy curls, and i just finished off the ends with a bit of dry oil

I bought this stuff last summer, it was cheap and most all beach wave sprays work the same. It’s a good product, though it is very drying. I would use it in conjunction with maybe a mousse, also definitely a diffuser to get the best results.

Great texturizer! Can be a bit drying, though. I spritzed a bit on my 3 day old hair after my dry shampoo for my everyday bouffant, and it held really great! I would say it truly is drying on freshly washed hair though. I also find it doesn’t really help me “wave” my hair, but adds amazing texture (if that makes any sense). In other words, it can act as a lightweaight hairspray.

PROS: Good for scrunching my naturally weak curls. I have dry ends and fine hair. It activates my curl well with just a little crunch/stiffness and minimal frizz and no oiliness to weigh my very fine hair down. Inexpensive. I love the spiced fig scent.
CONS: Can be a bit stiffer than some (see alternatives.) The scent may not appeal to all.
APPLICATION TIPS: This works so much better when I apply when my hair is wet/damp. I do NOT spray it all over. I spray this into my hand and scrunch the ends (and some of the “mids”) and apply Suave Curly Mousse (with the green lid) at the roots for lift. I let it air dry or diffuse if I have that kind of time. I sometimes end it off with dry shampoo sprayed at my roots at the top of my head for extra volume. (Also see “alternates” below.)
ALTERNATES: Tresemme Perfectly Undone Wave Creation Sea Foam is a good alternative. It is less stiff than this. I have recently found Dove STYLE+care Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse which is amazing for enhancing my curls with NO crunch and just a touch of softness, and it doesn’t weigh my fine hair down. (And if I use the Dove brand, I don’t need the Suave for my roots, then.)

Liked this product but I didn’t like how it made my hair look dull although it says matte finish it seemed less matte more dull. However it gave my hair awesome volume…I have thin/flat hair so it was great. Would like if it had a little more shine. A little goes along way so don’t over apply.

Great product that does not leave an oily or crunchy residue in your hair. My hair is medium thick and has long layers, and this product enhanced the natural waves without weighing it down which is a miracle due to the other products of similar nature that a lot of them do. I spray this in my damp hair and scrunch and it does not make it frizzy. Cheap, effective, and does what it should.
