Warning: long rave ahead.
I paid around $8 for this seven ounce tub of lanolin, which is an absolutely huge amount. You need so little of it that I see it sticking around for the next hundred years.
This is absolutely the best lip product I’ve ever tried. My lips were incessantly chapped and peeling, and in addition most lip balms were causing pimples and whiteheads all around my mouth. Originally, I thought the breakouts were caused by my toothpaste, but that was not the case. After going through countless tubes and tubs of Vaseline, Aquaphor, Carmex, Blistex, and Chapstick, the breakouts were getting worse, and the dryness persisted. It was not a pretty sight.
I had heard lanolin was quite comedogenic, so it made me nervous to try it. I decided to take the plunge however, and I’m so glad I did! First off, it has a very interesting texture and smell. It’s very thick and sticky and resembles honey. The odor isn’t terribly strong, but it does smell faintly of sheep. It’s a bit hard to spread on your lips, but once you get it on there, the magic begins! My lips started to feel like normal lips for the first time in months. The peeling and flaking completely stopped, and even when I would forget to apply it, my lips were not crying for moisture. It also leaves a really pretty, shiny finish that rivals most lip glosses I’ve tried. And the best part is that it does not cause any breakouts around my mouth! I am still unsure why every lip balm I tried did that, but I am so relieved this one doesn’t! I’ve also used it on dry patches on my face, and I don’t break out there either.
