   I really wanted to like this product! I’m a big fan of the brand, and I’ve used red light therapy for anti aging and been impressed with the results so when I started noticing I was breaking out more often than I used to I was optimistic this would help.

   But I was wrong sadly. The mask actually has both red and blue lights; it’s bright but not a big deal if you close your eyes. You can also use tanning bed type goggles , they fit under the mask.

   I’ve used this as directed with 2-3 missed days over a month. No improvement at all in breakouts. Not new ones , not in how long they last , nothing.

   I gave it a 2 because I’m slightly optimistic that the red lights are helping with firmness but I won’t rebuy.

   Haven’t written a review in a long time but I had to for this one. This has been working really well for me and has kept me clear the longest in my entire life. I used to suffer from really bad acne when I was younger and was even put on accutane. I did quit the accutane after half a year because I didn’t like the risks involved. Getting older my acne became mild but I did get 2-3 new pimples every week. It varies from my chin, cheeks or above my mouth. Sometimes they’d be small or the huge painful ones. I also had uneven skin texture from the tiny skin like bumps around my forehead and cheeks. No matter what products I used or how well I took care of my skin, nothing seemed to work. I worried about using new skincare or makeup in fear that it would cause a breakout. I also get more around that time of the month. The worst is when you have an event coming up and your skin is pretty clear but on the day of or before you have some uninvited guests attending along with you on your face lol.
   After using this religiously everyday for almost a month I can honestly say it works. After the first 5 days my pimples went away and has stayed fairly clear. I had maybe 3 pimples so far but they were all very tiny and went away in a couple of days. I feel like they were just trying to bloom but didn’t make it very far. Usually it takes a week or more for them to go away so it was great. My skin is now very smooth and much more even looking. I suggest giving it a try. There’s different tutorials on YouTube on how to by pass the activator once you’ve used up the 30 days. Or amazon US sells activators that don’t have the 30 day limit. You just gotta time out the 10 min yourself. Best to follow the instructions on only using it 10 min a day ONCE a day. This mask is meant for mild acne and not severe unfortunately. If you’re someone who gets a pimple here and there then maybe try the pen version. But if you get quite a few at the same time then I would suggest this mask.

   It takes redness away. Haven’t noticed much of anything when it comes to my acne but the redness does fade after I use it. It comes back tho.

   This product is SERIOUSLY not for you if you have light sensitive eyes or any sort of light sensitivity.

   I’ve been having some (pretty unusual for me) breakouts recently, and this product sounded really worth a shot for a few reasons. First, since being really dry my skin is hard to treat when it breaks out as most chemical acne treatments are all about drying out the skin and removing my non-existent oiliness, so something non chemical sounded like a good idea. Second I had heard good things about this product. And third, I generally like Neutrogena.

   I was expecting the light coming from this mask to feel warm and relaxing, like Neutrogena’s description and other people said, maybe like sunbathing. Instead it is SO blinding bright I literally shrieked and ripped it off the first time I turned it on. The instructions tell you to “sit back and relax” with it for 10 minutes – around 10 seconds was as long as I could stand.

   I do have extremely light sensitive eyes, so I cannot properly review this light mask for it’s intended purpose, only warn others who have the same problem. I have heard very good things about this product, so it only seems fair that I give it a neutral score of 3.

   Neutrogena, you should be ashamed. Just because you shit on our money and the environment, we have to buy an activatior after 30 uses? Sure, we can choose what we buy but this unnecessary. I bought this mask anyway because I want to hack the activator (Youtube videos) so I don’t give a f*** about your greedy minds.

   About this mask itself: I love how easy this works. You put it on your face, connect it to the activator, press the ON button and then you wait till the lights vanish. I just started using it but I know I cant count on it. I have lightly acne, at least one or two pimples pleasure me every week.
   The negative reviews are mainly from people like me who call the forced repurchase for the activator bullsh*t.
   This mask is clean and safe to use, and you don’t need a timer. Perfect for anyone who wants results and is lazy, like me. 🙂

   UPDATE 30/10/2017: Sorry but I see better results with Aztec Indian Healing Clay. I will return this mask. Too expensive.

   I got this mask 1 week ago and have been using it daily since. For the first 5 days, I wore it twice a day instead of the once a day recommendation/instructions because I had newly developed cystic acne on my chin.

   If you have persistent acne, this is a must-try item. Not only did it clear my open comedones, but it also reduced the size of my cystic/nodular acne by 90% in only 3 days. That’s amazing. I had 2 nodules and 1 has now resolved, but I have one that wants to hang around awhile that was larger than the other one. Each time I use the mask, it gets a little smaller. I have only had 3 comedones surface since using the mask, but I have been using actives on my face as well (retinoid, Hibilcens cleanser, and the a AHA+BHA peel). These 3 are now almost resolved. Because I am using anti-aging products simultaneously in my daily regimen, I can’t speak for that benefit of the mask. Mask will make your face warm after use and may cause some redness that can be countered with a redness reduction product.

   Worth mentioning: When I first started using this mask, especially the first 2-3 days, I felt this strong weird sensation deep in my skin, which I am assuming was bacteria in my pores being reduced?? It was almost an uncomfortable tingly sensation that lasted until about 5 mins after taking the mask off. I don’t feel that as strongly anymore.

   I think the cost is relatively decent considering how well it works as compared to more expensive products that provide fewer results. You do have to repurchase the battery pack every 30 cycles, but you can bypass that with a hack on youtube. If you don’t do that, it’s still not expensive IMO because it’s effective. It wears comfortably since it’s on for only 10 minutes. It’s goof-proof, I think. You have to press and hold the button on the battery to activate it, so it’s not easy to accidentally start an unwanted cycle.

   EDIT: This was mentioned by a member on the boards, so I thought I would put it here. This mask is small. I have a small face, so it works fine for me. For reference, I am 5’2″. But, for average sized women and young men/men, it may not fit well enough and reach the entire face on the perimeter near the hairline and jawline. I have adjusted the mask before by placing the ear pieces above my ear where they normally naturally rest to reach places not usually covered by the mask. There is a UV eye shield in it that I wanted to lift up to expose under my eyes because I had attempted to extract 2 milia bumps and made a mess of my skin there. It will rest on temples, above ears and even above temples, but the mask is still small regardless. They really should make these in at least 2 sizes if they want us to buy a new a battery activator every month.

   UPDATE: Still using this in conjunction with Hibiclens and it’s working so well, I have reduced my usage of the Hiblclens cleanser from both AM and PM cleansing to only PM. Love this mask! I will continue to use it daily as a preventive measure indefinitely.

   2nd UPDATE: Now using Hibiclens only 4x a week. This product also reduced the number and size of hormonal acne with no cystic comedones.

   3rd UPDATE: Now using Hibiclens only 2x a week. Zero cystic acne, reduced regular comedones.

   Update on 8/9/17 – zero cystic/nodule acne since using the mask, still see a reduction in regular comedones, though not completely acne-free (But, I have been trying new products). Stopped using Hibiclens several weeks ago.

   *PSA: I have read some SCB posts that this product caused some people enough irritation to keep them from using it, so be aware this may not work for everyone.

   Game Changer.
   Before seeing the commercial for this I had long ago bought both a blue and red light (handheld devices) to treat both acne and aging of the skin, respectively. Similar to like a baby quasar. You have to hover them over each area of the face, wait for a beep and then move to another area. All in all, to treat the whole face with both lights sufficiently it took close to 30 + minutes and I maybe did it twice the whole time I had the lights. The technology is sound but the application isn’t practical for my lifestyle and they sit collecting dust. They were around 300$ total on sale.

   Enter the Neutrogena Light Mask which incorporates both blue light (targets acne bacteria) and red light (targets inflammation and somehow helps to regenerate collagen) into one handy “mask” that is hands free. It glows for 10 minutes and when it stops automatically your whole face has been immersed in both blue and red light. I paid 39.99. I believe Neutrogena has a 10$ off coupon at this time.
   I stick the “wand” piece into my pants pocket and with the small vision window I can see well enough to fold laundry in the morning or put product in my hair.

   And this is what I’ve done for 30 days religiously since I’ve gotten it. I take my shower (cleanse with my Cerave foaming face wash) get dressed and put on my mask before doing another thing to my skin. (I should warn you that any loved ones that live with you WILL get a chuckle-it looks like a welders mask with a purple light glowing through)

   After doing the mask, sometimes my face has a slight pink tinge to it. It doesn’t feel warm or hot though ever, and the pink goes away. Seeing this made me feel like it must be doing something at first. And boy was it!
   I have gone 30 days without a single zit. To give you an idea, I have combo-oily 37 yr old skin. I probably have around one to two blemishes per week, up to four the week of my period. Always some clogged pores on my nose.
   I do use Paula’s Choise Resist 2% BHA, clindaymcin gel and tazorac from the dermatologist or else these breakouts would be more prevalent and more frequent. Keeping all those products the same and only adding the 10 minutes of light mask daily–I kid you not, I didn’t have so much as a clogged pore-not even the week of my period!

   The only downside to this mask is that the “wand” part I mentioned holds only 30 treatments and a new one must be purchased each month for around 15$. Online they are 14.99, my Walgreens has them for 16.99.
   If the result of zero acne (heck I could live with one zit/month) continues, then an initial investment of 39$ and 15$ a month thereafter is a steal in my book.
   It is my understanding that you can pay a pretty penny at the dermatologist to have blue light therapy done for the prevention and treatment of persistent acne. Now you can do it at home in just 10 minutes a day. Run out and get this if you struggle with breakouts.

   Also, my sister asked me if there are any harmful side effects from the lights. There are not. It is not UV light in any way and they are safe wave lengths of light that have been used for years by dermatologists for just this thing.
