This is not good on your face or hair if you get breakouts. I used a cheap sunflower oil in my hair before this that was not high linoleum, and it was fine. But this stuff broke me out all around my hairline.

This product did not help my skin. In fact it clogged my pores and made me break out. Couldn’t use the remainder of the huge bottle I bought. For some this will cause breakouts, FYI.

My skin: Combo-oily, sensitive (among others, my skin takes the habit of breaking out in hives when it doesn’t like something I eat or put on my skin), SD/PD-prone. OSPW. Fitzpatrick IV. Freckles and PIH from hives.
I used to be so convinced I have oily skin and thought grapeseed oil is the best choice for oil cleansing. Wrong. It made my face dry and feels uncomfortable. So I turned into the “next best thing” for oily skin: hempseed oil. Whilst it’s really great and made my skin felt closer to normal, supple and less irritated, it’s not exactly the cheapest option, along with the hassle to keep it refrigerated, short shelf-life (I couldn’t manage to finish it too quick), as well as the smell (I found it fishy). I have my review for it here.
Along came sunflower oil. I reassured myself that oil is just, well, “oil” and I’m much better off getting aox and whatnot from other products (serums and such). It continued the improvement started by hemp seed and I just love that it has barely any smell.
I have been using whatever sunflower oil I can find in the cooking oil aisle, but I always made sure it’s high linoleic. Lately, I’ve been using Tesco’s own-brand sunflower oil.
One thing I like to do is to rinse my hand with water after massaging my face with the oil, so that I don’t have oil drippings all over the bathroom counter when I reach for my washcloth. This oil rinses so easily with water. I barely can feel any thick coating on my hands after rinsing.
I also like to use this to top off my light moisturizer (Superdrug Simply Pure Hydrating Serum) as light occlusive when my face gets a bit angry from all those Retin-A, Skinoren, AHA and the sun. It sinks in very quickly and always leaves my skin supple until the morning. It’s not enough for real cold days of winter, though. On those days, I found waking up to bright, supple skin, but still feeling a bit tight.
I stopped using oils for any kind of purpose early this year, because I suspected they aggravated my SD, including sunflower. After months of rebuilding my routine and testing (and retesting) old standbys, I finally got to reincorporate oil cleansing back into my routine. I’ve been back to using sunflower, although I will try mineral at some point. I can’t be more glad to do oil-cleansing again as it makes a difference to my skin. It seems like my skin also likes a little bit of physical exfoliation as well and sunflower oil really helps melting all those sebum plugs (sebaceous filaments) making my skin looks smoother and less dull.
Plus, I’m happy to say that after retesting it, I could conclude that sunflower oil does not aggravate my SD. Yay!
For a little price and so much benefits, I obviously will keep using this.

I am reviewing the organic 365 sunflower oil from Whole Foods. My favorite uses for this product: oil pulling & skin moisturizer. For the oil pulling, I do it daily in the morning for 20 minutes right when I get up (before eating, brushing, etc) with a little less than a spoonful. Then I rinse my mouth & continue reg. morning routine. I have noticed an unexpected subtle whitening of my teeth, and my gums also truly seem healthier because of it!! (A couple years ago I was on the verge of gingivitis…no longer!)
My second favorite use is to moisturize my legs after showering. I tried it on my face but I got little red bumps, on my shoulders I got white bumps, but on my legs, WOW they just drink this stuff up. After about 15 minutes it totally absorbs into your skin and your skin feels the softest EVER! One possibly negative side effect, I’ve noticed that it does seem to slightly stimulate hair growth. If I shave in the PM I’m a little stubbly by next afternoon. Its nothing crazy, but before they discontinued it I was using Yes to carrots body butter and it seemed to delay hair growth – after over 24 hours I was still super smooth! Anyway, if I hadn’t been enjoying that benefit for so long, I probably would not have noticed the re-growth rate with the sunflower oil.
After I ran out of my first bottle of the organic kind I tried some extra virgin sunflower oil I found at Walmart just to see the difference. The EVO was darker in color & stronger in scent & taste. I went back to the organic 365 for oil pulling, but am using the rest of the EVO bottle on my legs. Since the scent of the EVO is noticeably stronger I’ve been using Cerave on my legs combined with about two drops of the EVO. The smoothness is still amazing and the scent of the oil fades pretty quick. The hair growth rate was the same with the organic vs. the EVO, so maybe I am just back to a normal rate. Thought it might be worth a mention though in case anyone else has noticed a similar effect. I store a small travel-sized bottle of oil in the bathroom for my legs & refill as needed, the rest of the bottle is in the fridge. For the oil pulling, I grab of spoon from the kitchen and just pour it out from the fridge to spoon.
I’ve been using sunflower oil in these two ways for about 4 months now, and don’t plan on quitting any time soon!

I am totally loving sunflower oil. This is my new multi-purpose wonder product. I had been using grape seed oil for awhile now to remove makeup and while it was great for that, I couldn’t use it in as many ways (grape seed is more of a “dry” oil and mildly astringent). My sunflower oil is Antoine & Muse brand, refined, in a huge 33.8 oz bottle. I found it at the grocery store with the cooking oils. They had unrefined also; I got refined because it was a bit cheaper, but neither was expensive. It’s very lightweight, pale gold in color, almost no discernible smell. For reference, my skin is combo to oily, very clog and acne prone. I use this almost nightly as a makeup remover prior to cleansing. If I’m feeling especially dry I use a few drops over moisturizer. I’ve mixed it with Purpose to make a gentle, creamy cleanser. I use it in the shower after washing on my body (which tends to be really dry, unlike my face), especially after shaving my legs. I’ve mixed some into my conditioner to give it a boost. My hands have been plagued with some sort of itchy dermatitis and when I wash them I found using one pump of soap and one pump of sunflower oil keeps them from drying out as much. This is such a great, cheap beauty product that I’m glad I tried. I will definitely repurchase.

I was using avocado oil, but i stopped before summer. I read the reviews here and found it’s much cheaper (3.XX for 16 oz at Wholefoods), so I got it for the winter. I put a thin layer morning and night. I have been doing that for 3 weeks. It doesn’t cause any breakouts and helps with my chapped skin (just like the avocado oil.) It doesn’t have much scent and it’s okay to put under makeup. I also did a very simple scrub with this, honey and sugar, it made my skin so smooth. I will definitely go back to this.

I heard such amazing things about sunflower oil. I have been using grapeseed oil, which gave huge whiteheads and some bumps on top of my eyebrows.
I will update soon, when i get to use this oil.
UPDATE ON OCTOBER 29, 2011: Amazing product this did not break me out, I was really surprised because I heard that refined oils are supposed to be bad for your skin. But this made my skin so smooth and smooth in the morning, I can’t help it but touch it over and over again. LOVE YA MOTHER NATURE!
UPDATE ON NOVEMBER 15, 2011: OMG! After using this oil for several weeks now, my acne that are under my skin has risen up on the surface of my skin. They feel dry and sandy, and if you them they just fall off. Now my skin is flawless than ever!

I’ve tried a bunch of oils — coconut, jojoba, rosehip, grapeseed, and vitamin E. Sunflower is THE ONE. I want to marry it. It’s finally the cheap, light, clean, non-comedogenic, serious moisturizer I’ve been looking for. And I found it at the most desperate time — a terrible, horrible, inflamed breakout aggravated by the drying effects of calamine. I mean a quarter of my face looked and felt like it was on fire. Sunflower fixed the redness in one night. Now for spot healing with polysporin and patience…
FYI:
I had a lot of success at one point in the recent past with coconut (the refined stuff). Breakouts were completely eliminated. Until tiny uninflamed comedones proved that it was slowly plotting against me. Jojoba isn’t bad either, but just a little irritating and a little greasy. Vit E is too thick, I only use it on dry spots and on my lips (it’s GREAT there) and rosehip didn’t do anything too special. My skin likes sunflower best.
UPDATE:
I’m only using this on my body now, and sometimes on my face after a good scrub or a drying mask. I use oil-free Complex 15 all the rest of the time. I think my skin just balanced out in the last couple years.

I’m rating Whole Foods 365 brand high-oleic sunflower oil. I was using avocado oil, which I love, but wanted to try sunflower oil because I read that it’s 0 comedogenic. I couldn’t find just sunflower oil, but did find high-oleic, which, I suppose, IS a bit comedogenic because of the oleic acid! Ugh. Well, anyway. I had a breakout on my chin possibly caused by Desert Essence moisturizer, which contains jojoba oil and some other stuff I’m not thrilled with. I started using just this sunflower oil and I swear it has healing properties. The next DAY my breakout was much reduced and much less red. So I’m currently in love with this. I even tried making soap out of JUST this oil, but it didn’t work for some reason – for some reason too much lye remained. (However, just avocado oil makes a fantastic soap, and so does just macadamia nut oil, if anyone was wondering ;-)).

Sunflower oil feels very nice when rubbed in to my skin. It soaks right in and doesn’t leave me feeling greasy. Haven’t had negative problems with this. Leaves my skin very moisturized. I noticed its a very light oil. Huge bottle for 6 or 7 bucks. Give this a try!
Update: After using this for some time, I started to get small bumps on my upper arm. I’m pretty sure its from this. I still think its great for scrubs or for hair but I think I will stick to safflower oil on my body:)
