I was prescribed this ages ago by my dermatologist, I haven’t stopped using it because I have no other alternative. It did not help with my acne at all, it didn’t stop blackheads and whiteheads from forming. I keep breaking out no matter what. But, it doesn’t have the bleaching effect like other benzoyl peroxides have.
If it worked for you, great! It did not for me.

I get this from the doc, now and then when my never ending trials of various skin regimes to try and clear my skin get me down. I had clear skin all the way through until I got sick at 30. 16 years on and my skin is still bad. Full of scars too now. Right, Duac…It works, slowly with my hormonal acne, but it only helps a bit with cysts. It makes my skin feel much smoother, which makes a nice change and I don’t get much peeling or soreness but it deffo feels a little sensitive. The biggest let down is that as soon as I have finished using it, the acne comes back, within a week.
Oh and not sure if I got it wrong, reading other reviews about keeping it in the fridge. I have thrown away the packaging to check but I thought it only had to stay in the fridge until it was opened?

I write very few reviews because I don’t want to give incorrect or unfair information about a product: if something doesn’t work for me it might be a combination of other products I’m using, external factors like sun, stress, diet, etc. However I have to come out and give this 5 stars because it’s changed my life.
I’ve always suffered from mild facial acne, which now (in my 40s!) is more or less under control. But in the last year or 2 I’ve started getting acne on my neck, back and chest which is just horrible to live with: you can’t cover it with make-up, it affects what you can wear, and just generally kills your confidence. I really have tried everything: sulphur, azelaic acid, zinc oxide, salicylic acid, AHA, BHA…. Benzoyl Peroxide has been the most effective but I end up with a rash or peeling skin (even with 2%) and bleached clothing, bedding and towels – and the acne returns pretty quickly if I stop using it.
I finally stumbled upon Duac Once Daily Gel – was a bit intimidated when it arrived packaged in a deep freeze, but gave it a try anyway. To cut a long story short: immediate results, my skin has never been clearer, and what’s even better, I use it maybe once or twice a week now and haven’t seen any spots returning. Slight dryness in the beginning but no rash, minimal bleaching compared with other formulations, and you need just a tiny amount. (I used Avene Cicalfate to combat initial dryness).
This may not end up being the HG product for you, but happily it was for me. So if one product doesn’t work, I’d say keep trying with different formulations and eventually you will hit something that does. Even if it takes you a bit of time! (Jan Marini BP 5% came pretty close too).

I’ve tried literally everything, including other topical gels like adapaline & benzol peroxide (epiduo) which is supposedly quite similar and another one (forgotten?)
I’ve spent so much on so many products, clinique three step and their other products, simple range, dietry changes – vegan, gluten free, vegetarian, carb and sugar free, I’ve tried apple cider vinegar, aloe vera, calimine lotion, secret indian clay, acne medicated foundations, not wearing makeup, clarasonic brush.
I was offered ro-accutane but couldn’t take it for another 5 months because i’m in the process of laser hair removal which can’t be done while on this medication, so I thought I’d give it a stab and try one more topical treatment, the doc didn’t have the one I wanted so gave me duac and blow me it’s worked very quickly for me.
I get the impression that like everything else I’ve tried, it works wonders for some people and doesn’t work at all for others, if you can get it from your GP give it a go for a few weeks.
It’s cleared almost all of my face, I’m starting to realise that some of the blemishes are actually scars now which is kind of gutting but what i’m ecstatic about is my face isn’t lumpy anymore, you can cover dark flat spots with makeup, you can’t cover a lump even with makeup.
There is about 4 really stubborn spots on my chin so I’m going to start spot applying this stuff in the day on that one area, and continue using it all over at night.
I don’t get the side effect of crazy dry skin, I’ve had that with other treatments. My skin is dry but it’s nothing you can’t gently exfoliate and moisturise to a good base for makeup 🙂
My only con is keeping it in the fridge is annoying. I might get a mini fridge in my room.
As this is a antibiotic treatment my concern is it may stop working, but if that happens in a few months then I will be taking that roaccutane as that is quite a permanent measure.

Helps with my moderate acne, nothing cystic but I get red bumps on my forehead and this helps to keep it nice and breakout free. It is a bit drying but I just don’t use it everyday – I use it for 3 nights in the evening, and then a hydrating serum on the 4th and then begin again. Only other con is that it contains Benzoyl Peroxide which helps to eradicate acne BUT also apparently prolongs scarring, hence I only use it on active acne and put my scarring medicines on the other bits of my face

This (in conjunction with 25mg of spironolactone once a day) has completely eliminated any breakouts or blocked pores from my skin. I have PCOS and have always had hormonal breakouts constantly on my chin since a young teen, despite by skin not being oily in the slightest. I take care of my skin meticulously, and despite the rest of my face looking radiant, clear and smooth I always had at least one painful spot around my chin or jawline. Using these two products my skin is breakout free and glowing. I use the Duac most nights as the last step in my regime. Applying a thin layer only to the chin (over moisturiser) prevents any dryness or discomfort and allows the cream to keep my problem area in check.

My skin: Combo-oily, sensitive (among others, my skin takes the habit of breaking out in hives when it doesn’t like something I eat or put on my skin), SD/PD-prone. OSPW. Fitzpatrick IV. Freckles and PIH from hives.
I use this as a spot treatment. I loved Benzolac (Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%) for the purpose, but I ran out of the tubes I brought from home and it’s not available in here in Malta. BP is sold under brand name PanOxyl in here, but it has been OOS on this island for months (I kept checking to 6 different pharmacies).
3 weeks ago, a huge cyst started boiling on my left nostril. Skinoren doesn’t cut it, although it works on smaller TTOM zits. I found out that Duac is distributed in Malta, so I called a local pharmacy and they told me I’ll need a prescription (and not necessarily from a derm) since it contains antibiotic (clindamycin). I got it immediately since I was leaving to see my boyfriend and old friends and family in the Netherlands for a week in a couple days and the cyst was already starting to look red.
I applied it every night and also took 400mg ibuprofen 3x a day. Just within a day, the pulsing on the cyst started to die down and it completely disappeared on 2nd day. Crisis averted!
It needs to be stored in the fridge. It costs much more than my regular BP, but I only need it occasionally and it works wonders on me. Am glad to find a staple spot-treatment!

Before using duac i had very oily skin and very bad acne all over my face and i mean ALL OVER. Nothing worked.
I have used duac for around 4 months and it has improved my skin so much. I didnt notice a difference until after about 5 weeks but by week 8 almost all of my break outs had gone. The breakouts however have left light marks on my face which the duac does not help but the actual acne itself has pretty much gone. I get the odd break out now and again but nothing even close to what i did before. I apply it at night before bed 5 days out of 7.
I have had people make compliments about how much my skin has changed and improved which is really nice to hear having suffered terrible skin for so long.
To avoid getting dry skin i put a very light layer on my skin for the first 3 weeks i mean like a tiny layer to get my skin used to it and then slowly increased it.. I didnt get dry skin doing it this way.
I would recommend that you try this product. Obviously it wont work for everyone i didnt think it would work on my skin as i tried everything in the book but it actually did. So would definately recommend a try.

This stuff was like the devil incarnate on my skin, it left me burnt and red, dry and flaky after only a few days, needless to say it went in the bin.

I had mild to severe acne at 14 covering my forehead and it was really affecting my confidence. In his teen years, my brother had pretty bad acne and after his doctor prescribed Duac, it practically vanished. So after having enough of bumpy skin, I went to the doctor and got my prescription. About a week after the first application, I was amazed. The pimples I had were like boils, and quickly reduced in size with Duac. They were almost completely gone in three weeks! Be careful to follow the instructions as with all topical treatments; however, I experienced little to no drying and no stinging ever. I always applied moisturiser afterwards, just in case. However, you need to be on the ball with treatment. I’m now 16 and my acne flared up (not as badly as before) and I once again got Duac and it dramatically changed the appearance of the pimples. I’ve had one more flare up along my cheek bones and one or two on my chin so decided to get Duac again, however my doctor for some reason wouldn’t allow me to and instead prescribed a bogus gel that only dries out my skin and have yet to improve my acne! Duac is undoubtedly the best product to use if you experience mild to severe acne. Good luck!
