I’ve been on a quest for the perfect self tan the past 2 months and I feel like it’s finally time to share my thoughts on the best products I’ve found. This product is definitely a score for me. I’ve always been afraid of self tanning as I had problems in the past. I’m very pale and I just never had good luck. I just can’t get a tan, even from tanning beds (over that part of my life anyway, thank God). This year though, I was like, it’s 2015, surely self tan technology has gotten better…
First, I bought this as tan maintenance. I was looking for a good, moisturizing gradual tan to use during the week in between dark foam and sprays to keep my tan alive. After some MUA research I decided to go with the Moist Hemp Bronzing lotion, my Sally’s was sold out of the full size though to my great disappointment. Enter Body drench, it was the only other gradual, lotion style self tanner they had and it was only 7 or 8 bucks for a large tube so I got this instead and a mini bottle of the Moist Hemp Bronze. Ugh, I am sooo glad they were sold out of my intended purchase.
Body Drench gradual tan leaves me with a much deeper and even tan after just one use. It’s super moisturizing, it doesn’t really have a self tanner smell, and it’s very easy to apply. The color I get is beautiful, although I am using over other products, I don’t know how it would turn out if I just used alone with my straight up natural paleness. I still moisturize my feet, knees, elbows and hands before use and I wear gloves to apply to the majority of my body. The first time I used it I applied like normal lotion and I got some darkness on the dryer areas and orange palms. This stuff definitely give you a good color from the first application. I apply it slightly different than my “real” self tanners though.
I start off with gloves and apply directly to my feet. Yes, straight to my feet, and massage it in really well then work my way up and am careful around my knees and elbows using the left over product per usual. I apply it directly to my face instead of my usual moisturizer and work my way down my shoulders, chest and arms. When I get down to my forearms, I take the gloves off and use my bare hands and put it on like lotion, rubbing it in really well around my wrists and knuckles, then I take a dry towel and rub the excess off the palms of my hands. I let it soak in for just a couple minutes then I dust baby powder on sweat prone areas, get dressed in some loose clothes and go to bed. It does rub off slightly on clothes.
When I wake up, my tan has so much more depth and it’s so even and beautiful looking. It even helps even out areas that I’ve experienced unevenness. There is no color guide so you must be careful to apply thoroughly. My hands and feet also look fantastic after this. Very even and natural looking. I will be using this the rest of the summer as tan maintenance and possibly forever. The color you get is stronger than the Moist Hemp product and I just can’t express how happy I am that I ended up with this. I’ll also be reviewing the other tanning products I’ve used.

I purchased this from Sally’s to compare to the Jergen’s Natural Glow Medium to Dark formula. The price is slightly less (and in a slightly larger bottle), and with the coupons Sally’s sends when you’re a member, it’s an even better value. The formula is I used is for medium skin tones. I put them side-by-side on my skin and this product delivered a deeper color than the Jergen’s. The color doesn’t appear as fast as the Jergen’s Natural Glow Express, but somewhere in between the two formulas.
